PRESIDENTS MESSAGE Stephen Bauer

Dear Members:

In hopes of a return to normal life as soon as possible, I

want to wish you all a Happy New Year. We had a produc-

tive period last month, successfully holding a Christkindl

Market weekend, elections of new directors, passing of up-

dates to our bylaws and celebrating of New Year’s Eve on

a smaller scale, as well as maintaining our weekly soccer

watch parties and Friday social evenings. All this was done

with safety protocols that have exceeded every other local

establishment I have visited I the last few months, thanks to

the dedication of all our service committees. As we contin-

ue to be diligent in our efforts, we intent to hold a Masken-

ball later this month to commemorate Karneval season to

be presided over by an extended reign of our prior royal

couple. Finally, an event where masks are always appropri-

ate. To complete this month we will be offering a Biergar-

tenfest the last weekend in January to take advantage of

the favorable weather and social distancing available

thought our expansive picnic grounds.

The purpose of the German American

Social Club of Cape Coral according to its

Bylaws is “to promote good fellowship

(Gemütlichkeit) and provide its members

with the opportunity for group enjoyment

of activities based on songs and

traditional celebrations of German social

life. GASC is open to all persons without

regard to race, creed, culture or ethnic

background. Any discrimination, racial

coments, bigoted remarks by members or

guest, theft, and want on detruction to

club assets will not be accepted or

tolerated! Members are expected to

adhere to this policy of respect towards

other members and the club itself both

inside Club property as well as in any

public forum, including online forums

hosted by and representing the Club.

Failure to abide by this policy will result in

disciplinary action stated in section VIII, F

5* of the GASC Bylaws.

Liebe Mitglieder!

In der Hoffnung, dass wir alle bald wieder zu einem normalen Leben zurueckkehren werden moechte

ich Ihnen allen ein “Frohes Neues Jahr” wuenschen. Wir hatten einen sehr produktiven Monat im

Dezember, mit einem erfolgreichen Christkindlmarkt, die Wahl neuer Direktoren sowie die

Verabschiedung der By Laws Veraenderungen. Wir hatten eine schoene Sylvesterfeier im Club, wenn

auch in einem etwas kleineren Rahmen und unser woechentlich stattfindendes Treffen zum Fussball

schauen fand wieder statt. Auch die gemuetlichen Freitagabende im Club bei Musik und Tanz fanden

wieder statt. Alles das fand unter groesseren Sicherheitsmassnahmen wie in vielen anderen Lokalen,

die wir besuchten, statt. Moeglich durch den Einsatz unserer Servicekommittees. Unter sehr sorgfael-

tigen Bemuehungen planen wir auch wieder einen Maskenball abzuhalten, um die Karnevalssaison

unter der Regentschaft unseres alten und auch gleichzeitig wieder des neuen Prinzenpaares zu fei-

ern. Endlich eine Veranstaltung bei der das Maske tragen dazu gehoert. Um den Monat abzuschlies-

sen werden wir am letzten Januarwochenende wieder ein Biergartenfest durchfuehren, haben wir

doch im Januar ideale Wetterbedingungen und der noetige soziale Abstand kann im Garten sehr gut

eingehalten werden.

Dear GASC Members:

2020 has been a rough year for all of us, but now we optimistically look forward

to 2021 with hope in our hearts for Happier & Healthier New Year. I would like

to take this opportunity to wish each and everyone of our members the very

best for 2021. The membership committee is now actively recruiting renewal

memberships for 2021 and want to be sure we don’t miss YOU!!! Your 2021

membership card and decals are waiting for you so be sure to stop by and see

me Friday evenings at the club, through February 5th to pick them up. If you

have already renewed, the GASC thanks you. As per our Bylaws, if dues are

not paid by February 5th, your membership will be terminated and you will lose

your club benefits. WE can’t let that happen!! You are what makes our club a

success!

So please make it a point to reach out to my anyway you can; in person, by

phone or by email.

Dues plus a 50% delinquent fee will be required to reinstate your member-

ship if paid after February 5th.

HAFENKAPELLE

The Hafenkapelle wishes

you all a Happy New Year 2021.

After the standstill in 2020, our expec-

tations for positive changes for the coming year are very high. As early

as this month we will look for practicable solutions how the rehearsal

work can be resumed. No matter how long it will take, our musicians

keep their instruments fit so that they are ready when the starting shot

is fired for us. We are already looking forward to seeing you again. I

would like to take this opportunity to thank the music colleagues of the

small brass band who played for the Christmas market and the open-

ing of the German church service on Christmas Eve.

Die Hafenkapelle wünscht euch Allen ein frohes Neues Jahr 2021.

Nach dem Stillstand im Jahr 2020 sind unsere Erwartungen an positive

Veränderungen für das kommende Jahr sehr hoch. Schon in diesem

Monat werden wir nach praktikablen Lösungen suchen wie die

Probearbeit wieder aufgenommen werden kann. Egal wie lange es

noch dauern wird, unsere Musiker halten sich an Ihren Instrumenten fit

um dann, wenn der Startschuss für uns fällt, bereit zu sein. Wir freuen

uns schon jetzt auf ein Wiedersehen. Bedanken möchte ich mich an

dieser Stelle bei den Musikkollegen der kleinen Blechbläserbesetzung

die zum Christkindlmarkt und zur Eröffnung des deutschen

Gottesdienstes am Heiligabend aufgespielt haben.

Edelweiss Hall opens 30 minutes prior to kickoff for available televised games. Food and drinks available for purchase. Any groups getting together should observe social distancing and wear masks when venturing offsides. As always if you are not feeling well or have had a recent exposure to anyone COVID positive just stay home and get tested ASAP. Failure to comply is a red card offense.

Vielen Dank an alle, die an unserem Kulturabend am 15.12 teilgenommen haben. Wir hatten ein schönes Beisammensein mit Glühwein, Weihnachtsgebäck, Musik und anschließend den neudeutschen Wiehnachtsfilm “Alles ist Liebe“ von 2015. Auf Wunsch machen wir noch einen Filmabend in Januar, diesmal schauen wir uns den beliebten Film Sissi an, mit Romy Schneider und Karlheinz Böhm. Meine Kopie hat Untertiteln, also bringt auch ruhig Familie und Freunde mit, die der deutschen Sprache nicht ganz mächtig sind. Der nächste Kul-turabend der Kulturgesellschaft ist am 19.1.

Im Februar schauen wir uns dann den Film über Düsseldorf an, der Anfang des Jahres 2020 in der Post

hänge geblieben ist, und schließlich während des Shutdowns nicht gezeigt werden konnte.

Ich freue mich!

Thank you to everyone who joined our Kulturabend on December 15th. We had a

cozy gathering, enjoyed some Glühwein, Christmas cookies, music and then watched the new German hit movie “Alles ist Liebe”. Upon request, we will once again have a movie night in January, this time we will watch the popular Sissi movie featuring Romy Schneider and Karlheinz Böhm. My copy has English subtitles, so feel free to join us if your German is not quite as proficient. The next Kulturgesell-schaft will meet on January 19

th.

In February, we will watch the movie about Düsseldorf, which was lost in the mail in early 2020 and finally arrived during the shutdown. I look forward to see you for a night of Gemütlichkeit!

A new year just has begun, 2021, and everybody is hoping it will

be a better year. Our expectations are high and hopefully with

vaccination beginning they will be fulfilled. I hope you all had a

good start with either family or friends into this new year and that

it will stay that way. As usual a lot of work will come up during the year but with a

team like we have, we will handle it. We start working again on January 6th and I

would like to welcome you and hopefully some additional members back on this

day.

Ein neues Jahr hat angefangen, 2021, und alle hoffen, dass es ein besseres Jahr

als das letzte sein wird. Hoffentlich erfuellen sich unsere Wuensche, haben doch

endlich die Impfungen begonnen. Ich hoffe, alle hatten einen guten Start ins neue

Jahr, entweder im Kreis der Familie oder mit Freunden und dass das Jahr gut

weitergeht. Wie ueblich wird auch in diesem Jahr wieder viel Arbeit auf uns zu kom-

men. Aber mit einem Team wie diesem, werden wir das zusammen meistern. Wir

fangen wieder am 6. Januar an zu arbeiten und ich hoffe alle jetzigen und vielleicht

ein paar neue Mitglieder wieder zum Arbeiten begruessen zu koennen.

We are deeply sorry to inform you that one of our members Mrs. Esther Petersen-Sandner passed away on Friday, December 25th, 2020. Our thoughts and prayers are with her family and friends at this time. Funeral and Memorial Service will be held in Germany.

DOH-LEE TO OFFER FREE COVID-19 VACCINES FOR

PEOPLE AGE 65 AND OLDER

Fort Myers, Fla., — The Florida Department of Health in Lee County (DOH-Lee) is offering COVID-19 vaccine to high-risk frontline health care workers and those 65 and older. DOH-Lee staff will have 300 doses of vaccine avail-

able at each site. Sites are supported by Lee County Public Safety.

Vaccination site schedules for the upcoming week are as follows:

There is no fee for the vaccine, and no appointment is necessary. Please bring identification and, if you are a healthcare worker, a copy of your ID badge or a current paystub. These are not drive-thru sites; all sites are

ADA compliant. To expedite the registration process, you may vis-it https://www.leegov.com/vaccine to download, print and complete the

consent form prior to visiting one of the vaccination sites.

Moderna COVID-19 Vaccine On December 18, 2020, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration issued an emergency use authorization (EUA) for the second vaccine for the pre-

vention of coronavirus disease 2019, COVID-19. The Moderna vaccine is

a 2-dose series separated by 28 days.
