According to community members whose children attended the high school, the building has no air conditioning. There is no ventilation in hallways and classroom windows are purportedly not permitted to be opened for “security reasons”. Due to these conditions and computer equipment temperatures in the school are characterized as unbearable. Subjecting the students and staff of the school to these conditions is unhealthy. However for the students being treated with medications often prescribed for ADHD, BiPolar and Autism that affect the thermoregulation ability of the body, the risk is substantial. There is also increased risk to those who have cardiac and respiratory conditions. I am requesting the Dept of Health investigate the environmental conditions at Oakcrest High School and ensure that those with health problems are appropriately being accommodated under state health regulations and the Americans with Disabilities Act. Thank you, Harry B. Scheeler, Jr. E.M.T.
