Dear Colleagues and Friends, It is with great honour and pleasure that the Lebanese Psychiatric Society welcomes you to its Annual Mental Health Day. This year, upon the recommendation by the World Health Organization, the theme is “Depression: Let’s talk”
Depression is a common mental disorder that affects people of all ages, from all walks of life, in all countries: it causes mental anguish and can impact on people’s ability to carry out even the simplest everyday tasks, with sometimes devastating consequences for relationships with family and friends.
But unlike many major health problems depression can be effectively prevented and treated, and efficacious and cost-effective treatments are available to improve the health and the lives of millions of people around the world.
Unfortunately, the stigma surrounding mental illness, including depression, remains a barrier to people seeking help throughout the world: talking about depression will raise awareness and help break down this stigma, ultimately leading to more people seeking help and getting treatment.
So joins us on our Mental Health Day and Let’s talk about Depression!
