Interference: 2G vs. LTEGeneral idea for GSM/LTE interference solution
Interference of GSM/LTE in the same frequencyWhen GSM and LTE share same band and same frequency , GSM and LTE will
Interfere each other. So space isolation is required in network planning.
The inside seven cells are GSM. The middle cells are guard cells. The outside cells are LTE. The numbers of guard cells should be calculated.
Interference can be divided into:LTE base station interferes GSM UELTE UE interferes GSM base stationGSM base station interferes LTE UEGSM UE interferes LTE base station
Interference of non co-site in the same band, different frequency. In case of non co-site, if the terminal is just near the location of the other system’s
base station, the interference is the strongest. Usually we take receiver’s noise increased 3db by interference as a criterion. The
coverage of the network will shrink because of increase of receiver’s noise.
GSM
LTE
GSM
LTE
Interference of co-site in the same band, different frequencyInterference will increase the power of receiver’s noise, which will reduce the network’s
capacity and coverageIn the case of co-site, when power of interference is 10dB less than power of thermal
noise, then the power of receiver noise will increase 0.4dB. It leads to shrinkage of the network coverage.

eRAN: interworking with RAN
• Interworking with UMTS:Coverage-based for PS continuity for now, load-based for PS and coverage based for CS later, and service-based camping & HO to be the main strategy for both CS and PS when mature.PS: PS Service Mobility.CS: CS Fall Back, IMS based SR-VCC.
Keep service continuity via 3G while avoiding to impact the 3G network stability. When mature, service based mobility is the choice.

ConsPros
Fast LTE deployment3G high priority avoid the delay time
due to CSFB for pure voice service
LTE coverage must be overlapped by 3G coverage. The delay time due to CSFB can not be avoided for
combined service.Need to align TA with LA as much as possible
Solution3G has high priority when UE attaches.Voice call is served by 3G.Data service is redirected to LTE.When there’s data service carried by LTE, Voice call
