T he Department continues to offer exciting courses and pro-
grams in International affairs to engage students in cultural
immersion, international service, and global learning. Dr. Rekha
Datta took students again to India for two weeks in January of 2014.
In this unique, life-changing trip, students helped out in the Rain-
bow Program at Loreto Day School in Kolkata, where mainstream
students are integrated with street children to offer everyone an
inclusive education. At the invitation of Dr. Aditi Dey, Principal of
Shri Shikshayatan College, who visited Monmouth University in the
fall, students had an engaging interactive session discussing educa-
tion, culture, social media, and careers at the first Global Symposi-
um between Monmouth University and Shri Shikshayatan College in
Kolkata, India. Students on this and previous trips to India have
carved out academic and career relevance by researching topics
inspired by the trip and by starting careers in an environmental
NGO and in the U.S. Department of State in Washington, D.C.
