9. Keywords Types of research, writing research 10. Course overview: A scientific research becomes an important component and essential part for

obtaining university degrees. This course is designed for the final year

undergraduate students in physics. The course aims to offer students a

research skills and good understanding of the research methods. This course

will cover few broad topics of research methodology including: the basics of

scientific research, literature review of the research field, find a research

problem, collect, analyze data and write an academic report. At the end of the

course, students will be able to formulate a good literature review and define

a research problem (research gap).

11. Course objective: The main aim of the course is to give research skills to the final year

undergraduate students. These skills include transferable skills, research skill,

and academic writing skill, through requiring them to undertake and complete

a research project over two semesters. At the end of the project, the student

is required to submit a project report, and to give a presentation about the

research project.

12. Student's obligation The students are required to attend all lectures, complete of all tests, quizzes exams, assignments, reports .

13. Forms of teaching Delivering lectures will be mixed including ppt slides and whiteboard.

14. Assessment scheme Marking is spread across the following activities:

Quizzes and Assignments %10

Academic report %5

Report presentation %5

Paper exams %20

The total mark of the course will be 40 marks added to the 60 marks of the

small group research project.

15. Student learning outcome: This course will enable students

to understand:

1) Some basic concepts of research, kind of research and its

methodologies.

2) Reasons for conducting research, identify research topics.

3) Understand literature review and research problem.

4) Organize and conduct research in a more appropriate

manner.

5) Develop different transferable skills including, academic

writing and presentation skills.
