INTRODUCTION
About Etawah: Etawah is a city on the banks of Yamuna River in the state of Uttar
Pradesh in India. It is the administrative headquarters of Etawah District.
The city was an important center for the Revolt of 1857 (A. O. Hume),
the founder of Indian National Congress was district collector then). Also
is the place of sangam or confluence between Yamuna and Chambal. It
is also the site of the remains of the Great Heritage of India. The noted
Hindi writer Gulabrai was a native of Etawah. Places of Interest: Loin
safari, Natinal Chambal Sanctuary, Sarsai Nawar, Etawah- Agra cycle
Highway, Kali Vahan Temple, Neel Kanth Temple, King Sumer Singh
fort, Pakka Talab and Shahi Jama Masjid.
About Saifai: Saifai is the village in Etawah district. It is also a sub-division and Block. Saifai in in a process to
established itself as a sport and education hub in the State.
Sports Hub: International Sports Stadium, Saifai
with an athletics stadium, and Indoor
stadium, an Indoor swimming pool,
International Cricket Stadium and
Chandgi Ram Sports Complex.
Educational Hub: Uttar Pradesh University of Medical Sciences a medical research public
University established by Government of Uttar Pradesh under Act, 15 of 2016.
The University is running and fledged Medical College, Paramedical College,
Nursing College, Pharmacy College.
Our Department: The department was established in the year 2012 with the start of the College of Paramedical Sciences. Diploma in Optometry was started from 2012-13 session while Bachelor in Optometry was commenced from 2013-14 session.
Various Specialised Labs of the Department:
1. Refraction:
Fully equipped with latest refraction unit, Manual Keratometer & Lensometer, Ishihara Colour Vision Plates, Retinoscope, Ophthalmoscope and model eyes for the practice of retinoscopy and other refractive techniques by the students.
2. Contact lens & Ocular Prosthesis Lab:
The Lab has been established with the purpose of teaching clinical pearls of the contact lens fitting and assessment as well as fabrication of ocular prosthesis and its dispensing. Equipped with Refraction unit. Rest equipment are in the pipe line of purchase.
3. Vision- Therapy Lab:
Vision therapy lab is going to be a boon for the children and patients requiring therapies to gain vision in conditions like Amblyopia, suppression, Pre & Post squint surgeries.
4. Low Vision Therapy Lab:
Low vision has become a problem of concern. The lab has been set-up to clinically assess and manage and even rehabilitate patients with low vision with the help of Low Vision Devices. This will give optometry students a great opportunity to gain expertise in the speciality of low vision with proper hands-on.
5. Optical Lens Manufacturing Lab:
This lab has a purpose of teaching the basics of lens manufacturing which includes lens grinding, smoothing & polishing.
6. Optometry Lab:
The lab has a motive of giving exposure and training students in the art of lens edging & fitting as well as dispensing optics essentials.
7. Research Lab:
Planned for the Masters in Optometry course to be started in near future.
Optometry as a profession has the primary public heath responsibility for eliminating
uncorrected refractive error (leading cause of vision impairment globally).
