News Letter Vol I, Issue I The present Department of History was established in 1995 as Centre for History. During the short span of Sixteen years, the Department has received national professional attention. Many leading Historians and Educationists have been associated with the Department of History. The Department of History has so far produced more than 400 Post-Graduates, 100 M.Phils, and 20 Ph.Ds in the short duration of 16 years. It has currently, 4 permanent faculty and 5 guest lecturers. The M.A. programme has some unique components such as Annales School, Subaltern Studies, Cliometrics and Environmental History. From the academic year 2008 onwards the department has introduced an innovative, Five-year Integrated Master of Arts in History. Plus- Two students can directly join this programme, and obtain direct M.Phil. / Ph.D. Degrees. It has Competitive Examination oriented syllabus for UPSC Civil Service Examination (IAS) and UGC-NET/SET. This course gives guidance on Business Communication, Enchantment of soft skills, Journalism, Travel and Tourism Management and more particularly, Intense training for historical research. The Department is also conducting Value based UGC Sponsored Human Rights Certificate Course. Jawaharlal Nehru Lecture

The Centre for Nehru Studies organized Jawaharlal Nehru Lecture on 26th February 2010. was given by Dr. Y. Chinna Rao, Associate Professor,Former Member Secretary, ICHR Department of Discrimination and Exclusion school of Social Sciences, Jawaharlal Nehru Studies, New Delhi. He spoke on ‘Dalit Movements at Crossroads’ . The Centre for Nehru Studies organized Nehru Lecture on 1st March 2010. The Jawaharlal Nehru lecture was delivered by Prof. Mohan Sundara Rajan, visiting professor and well-known science writer, Bangalore. He spoke on “On Becoming a Space Power: The Challenge Faced by India” The Centre for Nehru Studies organized the Jawaharlal Nehru Lecture on 17th March 2010. The invited lecture was given by Dr. V. Krishnan Ananth, Nehru Memorial Museum & Library Fellow, New Delhi. He spoke on “The Right to Property – From Fundamental Right to Constitutional Right: Some Observations on the Legislative Interventions in the Nehruvian Era”. The Centre for Nehru Studies organized Nehru Lecture on 1st February 2011. The Jawaharlal Nehru lecture was delivered by Prof. Mohan Sundara Rajan, visiting professor and well-known science writer, Bangalore. He spoke on “The History and Future of the Internet”. The centre for Nehru Studies, Bharathidasan University organised Jawaharlal Nehru Lecture on 17th February 2011.Prof. Deepak Kumar, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi, delivered a lecture on” Development Discourse Before and After Independence”. In his address he said Jawaharlal Nehru the first Prime Minister of India insisted
