To continue to a second year of English, do both the literature courses, ENG 110 (1st semester) and ENG 120 (2nd semester). You can also do the ENG 118 course (1st semester), focusing on language, which can be taken on its own. (CHECK entrance requirements for second and third year courses you want to do. You need specific combinations for these requirements). Which English Department courses are right for me? My English is quite good and I love literature. ENG 110 and ENG 120 (available full- and part-time) are the courses for you if you want to major in English and have a good matric mark for English. The courses include: an introduction to a wide range of rich and powerful works of literature poetry, drama, novels, short stories literature ranging over several centuries literature from Britain, North America and Africa a focus on sound analytical skills ENG 110: (1st semester): Introduction to Literature in English (1) ENG 110 focuses primarily on texts from the era before 1900. ENG 120: (2nd semester): Introduction to Literature in English (2) ENG 120 studies post-nineteenth century texts. My English is fair, but I want to improve my skills, and I want to focus mainly on grammar skills. Take ENG 118. ENG 118: English for Special Purposes. (English for Language Practitioners) (1st semester, available full-time only) This module focuses on the detailed grammatical skills required by language practitioners, including teachers. The ENG 118 language module (1st semester) can be taken on its own and is compulsory for students who want to do the Editing course (ENG 311) and the TESOL course (Teaching English as a Second or Other Language) (ENG 322) in their third year. Note: This module is compulsory as a requirement for several second and third year courses. Publishing students in particular must check these requirements. I am studying Architecture. You can do ENG 110 and 120. I am studying Commerce / Accounting. You must pass the EOT language proficiency test, and you must take ONE or MORE of these: ENG 110, ENG 120, or ENG 118. They are also exposed to a general cultural background. Justice Roux maintains that the study of poetry should be compulsory for all students of law. They can also take Eng 118. Watter eerstejaar Engelskursusse kan ek kies?Om aan te gaan na die tweedejaarkursusse, doen albei die letterkundekursusse, ENG 110 (1ste semester) en ENG 120 (2de semester).

Jy kan ook ENG 118 (1ste semester) doen. Dis ‘n taalmodule wat op sy eie geneem kan word.

(LET ASSEBLIEF op die toelatingsvereistes vir die tweede- en derdejaarkursusse wat jy wil loop. Jy sal bepaalde kombinasies moet slaag om aan hierdie vereistes te voldoen).

Watter Engels Departement kursusse is die regtes vir my?My Engels is goed en ek hou van letterkunde.

ENG 110 en ENG120 (kan voltyds of deeltyds geneem word) is die kursusse vir jou, veral as jy Engels as hoofvak oorweeg en ‘n goeie matriekpunt vir Engels het.

Die kursusse sluit in:• ‘n inleiding tot ‘n wye verskeidenheid ryk, indrukwekkende en

betowerende letterkundige werke • poësie, drama, romans, kortverhale • letterkunde uit verskeie eeue• letterkunde uit Britanje, Noord-Amerika en Afrika• ‘n fokus op gesonde ontledingsvaardighede

ENG 110: (1ste semester): Inleiding tot Letterkunde in Engels (1) ENG 110 fokus hoofsaaklik op tekste uit die era voor

1900.

ENG 120: (2de semester): Inleiding tot Letterkunde in Engels (2) In ENG 120 word tekste van na die 19de eeu bestudeer.

My Engels is heel goed, maar ek wil my vaardighede opskerp, en ek wil hoofsaaklik op my grammatikavaardighede konsentreer. Neem ENG 118.

ENG 118: English for Special Purposes. (English for Language Practitioners). (1ste semester, kan slegs voltyds geneem word)Hierdie module fokus op die gedetailleerde grammatikavaardighede wat taalpraktisyns (insluitende onderwysers) onder die knie moet kry. Die ENG 118 taalwerkmodule (1ste semester) kan alleen geneem word en is verpligtend vir studente wat in hulle derde jaar die Editing- (Redigering) kursus (ENG 311) en die TESOL kursus (Teaching English as a Second or Other Language) (ENG 322) wil volg.

LW: Hierdie module is verpligtend as ‘n toelatingsvereiste vir ‘n reeks ander kursusse, vernaam op die tweede- en derdejaarvlakke. Veral studente wat Uitgewerswese volg moet hierdie vereistes baie noukeurig nagaan.

Ek studeer Argitektuur. Jy kan ENG 110 en 120 doen.

Ek studeer Handelswese / Rekeningkunde. Jy moet die EOT taalvaardigheidstoets slaag, en jy moet EEN of MEER uit die volgende kies: ENG 110, ENG 120, of ENG 118.

Ek studeer Regte.Regstudente wat vir die ENG 110 en ENG 120 kursusse inskryf, verkry ‘n breë perspektief en baat uit die plesier wat mens put uit die lees van letterkundige tekste, en uit die aankweek van die leesvaardigheid van gedetailleerde teksanalise – dit is vaardighede wat die ontwikkeling van interpretatiewe en deduktiewe vaardighede en die uiting van ‘n ingeligte mening insluit. Hulle word ook blootgestel aan ‘n algemene kulturele agtergrond. Regter Roux is van mening dat die bestudering van poësie vir alle regstudente verpligtend behoort te wees. Hulle kan ook Eng 118 neem.
