INTRODUCTION.
Hitherto it has been the practice of the Department to combinein the one Annual Report educational statistics for the year togetherwith an account of the work in the schools in that year. As announced, however, in the Report for the year 1963/64, it is intended henceforthto publish the educational statistics annually and a report of the workin the schools at intervals of three years. Accordingly, only educationalstatistics appear in this volume.
In presentation and content the statistical tables in the Report aresimilar generally to those published in previous years. There is, however, one set of new tables-Tables 2 to 4 in Part One-General Statistics. These set out the total numbers receiving full-time education on aparticular date-1st February, 1965-by year of birth and by type ofschool or college attended.
It is the intention of the Department to revise and expand themethod of presenting the statistics with a view to giving a morecomplete picture than heretofore of the functioning of our educationalsystem. Steps have already been taken with this in mind.
The Table of Contents which follows indicates the layout andcontent of the Report.
