• All students enrol on the Marketing Communications degree and then decide which
route they wish to take towards the end of the first year.
• This provides more flexibility, especially for those who might be unsure at this
stage about the career they wish to pursue (...more about this later).

the moment.

Marketing is the activity, set of institutions, and processes for creating,
communicating, delivering, and exchanging offerings that have value for
customers, clients, partners, and society at large.
American Marketing Association
The progress of each programme is based around increasing specialisation and
sophistication, with the work placement year preparing students for their two semesters of
academic research into current and future challenges in their field.

• Help is provided by the placements team, who have well-established links with many

All programmes take the Dissertation/Academic Paper/ Consultancy unit.
10,000 word piece of original research on a marketing communications issue (or
a consultancy for a company).

• Coursework covers a very wide range of tasks: essays, marcoms plans, campaigh material, group and
solo presentations, vlogs and blogs
• Exams are held in January and May, usually lasting 2 to 3 hours
• The passmark on the undergraduate programmes is 40%
• The Bournemouth University Marketing Communications programmes provide high quality
vocational education with a strong academic framework.
• Students learn how, but also why and why not.
• The programmes work towards developing a full critical awareness of the issues and challenges in
the marcoms professions.

• Our degrees hold Graduate Gateway status by the Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM). This means
that our students have automatic exemptions on a series of professional qualifications with the
institute.
• In addition, all students can study and sit for the Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM) Foundation
Certificate in Marketing in their first year.
