Message from the Office of the Chair
This past semester has been a very busy and productive one for
your Business Administration Department with several
generational changes put forward and approved by the College
that can be found on Page----
We welcome two new faculty members Dr. Shani Carter and
Professor Ian Wise. Full biographies on both faculty members
will be included in our next Newsletter. We will be beginning a
new high end mentoring program in partnership with our
esteemed Trustees and Wagner Alum Ms Mary Caracappa.
Interviews of candidates for the Wagner Select program, from
our top 10% in all grades, will be commencing after the spring
break with our Career Development Office, with finalists
forwarded for approval by your Business Department. The
Selects will be teamed with inside as well as outside mentors
with the goal to attain higher level internships and probable
exceptional employment opportunities as well as automatic
entry into our Graduate programs. Stay tuned from further news about this exciting new venture.
We are looking at opportunities to present our EMBA program to employers so if you have some
time or know of corporations that would welcome a presentation I would be happy to go and visit
their site.
Our AccMBA program has been graduating exceptional candidates for almost 10 years now and we
are constantly looking for challenging internship opportunities. Our finely crafted students are as
good and better than any Ivy League graduates, with better skill sets, so please help us place them in
positions where they may truly make a difference within your company. See our highlight story
about Vicky Sun AccMBA, 2015, now with Google, and realize the value added our graduates can
be to your organization.
Respectfully,
Dr. Donald L. Crooks

Wagner Graduate Business Simulation Team Achieves 97% in the “Top Decile
Ranking” out of 1029 Internationally Competing Teams!
Congratulations to Capsim® Capstone graduate business simulation team Andrews who earned 97%
in the “Top Decile” ranking out of 1029 competing international teams. Team Andrews members
in BU669 “Strategic Leadership,” were Alexandra Filipovski, Christopher Furner, Emunael
Mpanduki, Daniel Reno, and Kelly Ann Gibbons.
The rankings were based on a cumulative score of eight years (rounds) of balanced score card
points earned by growing and strategically managing a $100M manufacturing company.
Research shows people learn best by doing. Our students experienced the inevitable compromises
and trade-offs inherent in the decisions that real-world managers make every day in finance,
operations, marketing and other areas. Our students built a product portfolio, managed costs,
analyzed the market, and developed forecasts, all with an eye on cash flow and balance sheet
management.
Businesses and the markets in which they operate constantly evolve. But in the “Strategic
Leadership” graduate course, whether you manufacture the latest wearable electronics or sell tickets
to upcoming events, the essential building blocks of business – marketing, finance, and operations
management remain the same. Through this interactive business simulation, Wagner students have
an opportunity to develop a holistic understanding of basic business principles from the very
beginning in an engaging and challenging learning experience. Each business discipline has its
broad body of knowledge which can be mastered in theory, but experiencing how business works in
practice can be the ideal foundation for deep and ongoing learning.

Curriculum Development
This is an exciting time for our business program. We are continually making our program stronger
as we prepare for AACSB accreditation.
Significant changes to BU 397(Internship) course prerequisites now allow our students to enroll in a
one unit internship as early as sophomore year, giving students multiple opportunities to gain
practical workplace exposure prior to completion of their degree. Our alumni have been supportive
of this endeavor, hosting our students as interns in the workplace.

Each spring all students have the opportunity to learn about the financial industry greed, ethics,
fraud and power of big business and money if they enroll in BU 286 Follow the Money. Dr. Crooks
teaches this course with passion and personal experience.
The management concentration now includes a class in supply chain management. Dr. Shani Carter
was instrumental in this endeavor to make our management curriculum more rigorous.
Dr. Dani Dong offered her course in digital marketing for the first time last fall. Students were
exposed to a strategic view of the digital marketing world.
Excel for Business is the required technology course for all business students. In concert with
Computer Science Department we will offer this class as a computer science class (CS 260, rather
than BU 260). This change to the course designation allows students to take an additional business
unit previously occupied by BU 260.
The department restructured the curriculum for minors in Accounting, Finance, Marketing and
Management. We aim to assure that non-business students who choose to minor in a business
concentration have a robust classroom experience which complements their major.
This year each professor in our department committed to include various excel assignments into
their respective discipline. We believe in working the technology skills throughout our program,
building on the skills students acquire in CS 260 Excel for Business.
The department submitted a program change form requesting breaking Tier 1 into Tier 1a and Tier
1b to allow more flexibility in the TMBA program.

Alumni News
“Coming from an academic background of arts and humanities, I naively underestimated what an Accelerated MBA experience would entail. However, surviving three semesters of intensive courses and projects has equipped me with more quantifiable business acumen than I ever imagined possessing. I was repeatedly forced to fine-tune my resume, cover letter, interview skills, and LinkedIn profile all while juggling my coursework and my internship. Somewhere along the way, I also learned how to handle stress, how to promote myself, and how to be proactive. Without these tools, I never would have been offered the position of French Market Research Consultant at Google, and I cannot thank Wagner College enough for all that I have learned throughout my undergrad and graduate years.” -Vicky Sun (B.S. International
Politics & French, AccMBA) Brian Ghering (BU ’16) recently completed a 2015 summer internship at BNY Mellon within the
“Asset Servicing” Division. Also, Brian was again accepted into a 24 month program at BNY
Mellon’s advanced internship 2016 training program that will allow continue his opportunity as a
long term prospect and future staff member with BNY Mellon.
Salome Mkervalidze (M’15)- Was accepted at BNY Mellon in a temporary role and capacity as a
Client Service Manager within the Private Wealth area. She will be considered for a permanent
position after completing 8-12 months of service.
