He is the Ernst & Young Executive Professor of Accounting at the University of Georgia and was appointed to the SEC Advisory Committee on Improvements to Financial Reporting in 2007. He served as chairman of the Financial Accounting Standards Board from 1987-97 and was national director of accounting standards for Ernst & Young. He was elected to the Accounting Hall of Fame and received the AICPA Gold Medal for distinguished service. He is a Director of Kimberly-Clark Corporation, Legg Mason, Inc., and Fannie Mae.
