Getting in touch
Director’s NoteIt feels as if only a moment after unpacking our bags from Edinburgh we’re already packing them back up to head out for our autumn season. Thankfully my excitement over the work we have out on the road this season has softened the living-out-of-a-suitcase blow.
Following outstanding runs in Edinburgh this year both Fine Chisel (Fringe First Award Winners) and 2Faced Dance have nationwide tours coming up. I can’t wait for the launch of Nick Ahad’s brand new company WhereYouFrom, who will be opening a reworking of Nick’s production Muslamic Love Story at Theatre in the Mill Bradford in November before a national tour next spring.
It’s going to be great to see Uncanny Theatre, a company who have been on our Incubate programme for the last twelve months, really !ourish and take their new show Instructions for a Better Life out on such a widely-
spread tour. You’ll also see what’s happening as part of New Realities, which is entering its second season. I’m particularly thrilled with the strength of companies and work we are bringing to Yorkshire this season.
We’re even giving you a sneaky peek at what we have in the pipeline for Spring ’14, which is looking like our busiest spring yet. If you would like any further information on any of the companies or shows you see in this brochure then give us a bell.
Hopefully see you on the road in the next coming months.
Have a great autumn,
David

The Anatomy of Melancholy
The Anatomy of Melancholy has been described as “the greatest book ever written”. Nearly 400 years old, it is a vast, 1500 page attempt to identify the causes, symptoms and cures for all kinds of melancholy.
Written by vicar and librarian Robert Burton it contains all the wisdom of its age - arcane, outlandish and hilarious. Yet, amidst all the wild stories and suppositions, much of its advice remains as urgent and profound now as it did then.

Firing Blanks*
Richard is infertile. Kate, a #erce-witted teenager he meets on a park bench, is an unlikely therapist. The gentle strumming of a busker underscores two people’s intimate, important stories. Firing Blanks is a fresh, funny and moving play about donor conception (and ducks) with an original live score.
Midnight At The Boar’s Head
Outside, the land is burning. But in the bar, music is playing, drink is !owing and there are stories to be told. The Boar’s Head in London’s Cheapside was Shakespeare’s favourite pub. Fine Chisel bring it to life and #ll it with an array of colourful characters.

Tony and Kasim are forced to question everything they’ve ever been sure of. Love, lust, anger and identity become confused and society’s trust in the linebetween right and wrong soon falls apart.
Instructions for a Better Life
This is all about us, everyone that is, thinking that something is true when it isn’t. It’s a true story. It’s a look at what people believe without question and an attempt to unpick the oddity of what we think we think. Part thriller, part comedic romp through human psychology, Uncanny Theatre stretch logic to breaking point in a show that’s visually arresting and absurdly funny in all of its low-tech glory. The rules are simple, and with a little luck you’ll be all right. Then again, why should you believe us?

Fancy seeing something a bit out of the ordinary? We’re working with 6 venues across Yorkshire to put shows on their stages which you may not have seen before.
We’re working with companies from Yorkshire and beyond who make really exciting new theatre and dance. Some of it is beautiful, some is a bit daft. Each show is clever, moving, occasionally messy and always delightful - this is a chance to catch exciting performances right on your doorstep, at prices that mean everyone can a$ord to go.
The project is called New Realities and is funded by Arts Council England. This means that we can bring more new companies to the theatres we are working with, support artists, and work out what will bring an audience to see them. We’re working closely with marketers Indigo Ltd, who helped us to create this project and will continue to help us research for it.
We’re in our second year now, with a brilliant Autumn season ahead, and three more seasons to go. For more information about the project please get in touch.

Hammer & Tongs“Ever since we could have an opinion, we could have a di$erence of opinion”Theatre Alibi’s new show is one long barney. It started way-back-who-knows-when, maybe at the dawn of time, and it’s still going on when the lights come down.

Tour D’HorizonTour D’Horizon is inspired by a story involving the strange fate of a man, who lived isolated for decades on the Brittany coast and was regarded by locals as intellectually impaired. A man in solitude, two #shermen, a woman and a gold#sh, all move in the grey areas of thought, memory, imagination and reality.
Power GamesThink you’re in control of your life? Think again…
Blending character-driven physical theatre with contemporary and South Asian dance, this stunning premiere by newly-formed Altered Skin explores the forces that shape our destiny.
The HoarderA highly visual, physical and inventive piece of theatre inspired by the astonishingly true story of Richard Wallace, a chronic hoarder – whose behaviour is so out of control that his own life is in danger – and Andy Honey, a gardener who slowly gains his trust and begins to help him clear over 30 tonnes of rubbish.
DumbstruckArmed with a stage full of instruments and a box of chalk, Fine Chisel’s award-winning actor-musicians celebrate forgotten dances, mis-translations and unknown voices. With live, foot-stomping music, Dumbstruck is a playful and heartfelt exploration of words and silence.
Super Cool LoveHow do you perform a show about love when your own relationship is falling apart? Do you keep it hidden from the audience or let it a$ect your performance? Does the presence of Cupid enhance the magic or prompt you to end it? These questions needanswering before everyone starts #ghting...
Brimming & Something RightWhat does it mean to have enough in 2014? In a world battered by a #nancial crisis and with natural resources at breaking point. The Enough Project was devised to respond to one simple question – What is Enough? A unique double-bill by two outstanding writing talents from the North of England.
