Ceramic is characterised by excellent elasticity and is damage-resistant for decades. Scientific studies have shown that the material has the same properties as comparable titanium surfaces with regard to integration into the bone. The zirconium implant consists of a single component so it does not require a separate abutment. It can therefore be immediately positioned and no healing period is required. A dental implantation without a digital volume tomo-graphy (DVT) is like driving in the fog. The volume tomograph provides the implantologist with a precise, 3D picture of the jawbone. Only this picture allows the dentist to exactly and highly precisely plan the position and length of the implant drilling. This also ensures that even with difficult bone conditions the implantation is successful and does not harm important nerves.

2. Computer-aided implant planningThe drilling carried out by your Dentaprime implantolo-gist is a perfect fit. The length, angle and position of the drilling is planned and executed with absolute precision. For this purpose the 3D model of the jawbone is transferred from the volume tomograph to the software coDiagnostix® and the implantologist uses this program to plan the implantation process. The software can also plan difficult cases with the highest precision in order to achieve perfect results.

3. implantationThe implantation is carried out with the aid of computer planning which exactly defines the length, position and angle of the drilling. Here the surgeon uses a so-called

surgical unit, the Intrasurg from KaVo, which is manufactured in Germany. It perfectly regulates the drilling speed and rotation.

4. Final tooth fittingAfter the dental implant has fused with the jawbone, the temporary prosthesis is removed and the permanent teeth are fitted. This may be a single crown, a bridge or an implant-supported denture.

Bone reconstruction

old age, chronic periodontitis (inflamed gums) and other gum damaging factors lead to the

jawbone substance diminishing. Consequently, the tooth’s root has increasingly less grip in the receding bone, until the tooth finally falls out. as a result, more people in the UK lose their teeth due to periodontitis than tooth decay.

Your jawbone remains strong and firm as long as it is in use, i.e. while chewing the teeth apply pressure to the bone via the tooth roots. This pressure is absent when teeth are mis-sing and in this case the bone recedes further and further.

The jawbone may become so thin that implants cannot be supported. In other cases the implant would protrude too far out of the bone, even with the smallest of implants.

In cases with thin jawbone your Dentaprime implanto-logist is able to carry out bone reconstruction. In minor cases, e.g. involving only one or two teeth, the implantologist is

often able to carry out both procedures at the same time, i.e. the bone reconstruction and fitting the implant. In the case of a larger area, the bone is reconstructed first and the implantation itself is carried out after a healing period of up to 6 months. How many veneers are necessary?

Most people will require only eight veneers for a perfect row of front teeth. Six veneers will usually be sufficient for a small mouth. If a patient has a very wide smile ten veneers may be required to achieve a perfect result. The teeth of the lower jaw are usually treated with in-office bleaching to match the colour of the upper jaw teeth.

prevention and therapy of inflamed gums

it is not tooth decay which is the most common cause of tooth loss. It is inflammation of the gums. Untreated

plaque bacteria trigger an immune reaction from the body and these both attack the supporting bones and collagen fibres of the teeth. The teeth become loose and ultimately fall out.

You already suffer from this condition?One third of people aged over 60 years suffer from severe periodontitis and face losing their teeth. However, this is not necessarily an irreversible fate as in this day and age people can keep their own teeth into their old age.

1. First phase of treatment:Following diagnosis, a Dentaprime dentist will profes-sionally clean your teeth. In the first step hardened and soft deposits are removed from your teeth using ultra-sonic and other methods. You will also be shown how to clean your teeth effectively, using a toothbrush, dental floss and if necessary also interdental brushes. The aim is to train patients in the ideal dental hygiene routine.

The dentist then cleans and disinfects the periodontal pockets where the bacteria have settled. A so-called curettage is also carried out. Here the periodontal pockets are cleaned out with special instruments, enabling the bones to regenerate.

2. second phase of treatment:In more severe cases of periodontitis with considerable bone degeneration and where the necks of the teeth are exposed, the Dentaprime dentist fills the affected areas with bone replacement material and covers the pockets with a self-dissolving membrane. The exposed necks of teeth are once again protected with gum in a reconstruction procedure. The aim is to regenerate the teeth and gums in terms of stability, functionality and appearance.

Short explanation of periodontitis and gingivitis

Gingivitis is the inflammation of soft gums which directly surround the teeth and is caused by a bacterial coating. the gum is reddened and swollen, a direct reaction of the immune system to the bacteria at the root of the problem. When touched, the gums bleed lightly. if untreated, the gingivitis can turn into periodontitis.

the bacteria continue to flourish undisturbed in difficult to access areas of the gums. the bacte-ria destroy lower lying structures, even down to the jawbone, and when coupled with a weak immune system these bacteria can even enter the bloodstream. Gingival recession and bone atrophy lead to the teeth becoming less stable and the inevitable result is tooth loss.
