· Airborne debris in dental labs will generally consist of silica.

· Silica is a primary ingredient of die stone and most ceramic materials.

· Inhalation of silica is the main cause of silicosis, a debilitating lung condition. The American Lung Association describes the effects of silicosis as “exposure to silica particles, causing scarring in the lungs, which can harm your ability to breathe.”
