    A kinesthetic method of explaining day / night!

    This file are in three parts

    page 1 is the instructions, and page 2 indicates additional resources that I have uploaded,

    page is a diagram of the setup,

    the rest of the document is the pages that are to "e photocopied for times and place#

    %"tain a piece of polypropylene rope a"out 2& metres long 'I "ought mine at ()*+, tie the ends together then

    tie 12 loops 'each loop is a"out 2& cm long+ at eual intervals pupils holding the place names -ill each hold

    on to a loop#

    $hotocopy the daytimes '.# am pm+ on to yello- card0 photocopy the night times '.# pm am+

    on to dark "lue card so the difference can "e seen "et-een day and night#

    $hotocopy the ast longitude cards on to one colour of card, and the est longitude cards on to a different

    colour that -ay, you can "e sure that ast and est do not "ecome confused#

    3ind an area that has a line on the floor 'to delineate day from night+ and an o"vious o"4ect at right angles to the

    line and at a long distance 'this represents the 5un+ the 5un al-ays illuminates exactly half of the 6arth7#

    The class is divided into t-o Teams

    Team A form a circle holding the time cards , and do not move

    Team ( form a circle of longitude lines, hold on to the appropriate loop in the rope and rotate once per 28 hrs

    ncourage pupils in Team ( to 6telephone7 each other to talk a"out -eather / amount of light / -eather#

    5-ap the teams!

    9( If the people holding the time cards form a mirrorimage of the circle 'so that da-n, at am / .# am is

    on the lefthand side+, then the pupils holding longitude cards have to rotate in a clock-ise direction#
