Foreword

This is the fourth book in our series on the subject ofdemonology.Inthesedays,knowledgewillincreaseconcerningdealingwithdemons.Evennowwecanseethebeginningofanewmoveinthisarea.

Ourfirstbook,TheOriginandOperationofDemons,dealswiththe creation and fall of Satan and his angels, and shows howtheyoperateintheearthtoday.

Second in our series isDemonsandHowToDealWithThem.Thisbookshowshowdemonsindwellman'sspirit,andexplainshowtodealwithevilspirits.

The third book, Ministering to the Oppressed, deals in depthwiththeoperationofthegiftofdiscerningofspirits,andwithministry to those suffering from various forms of demonicoppression.

Thisfourthbook,BibleAnswerstoMan'sQuestionsonDemons,contains some of the most-asked questions on Satan and evilspirits.AnswersaregiveninlightoftheWordofGod.

This book is an overview, highlighting key topics concerningdemons.Answersaregiventoquestionssuchas,

"Can a Christian have a demon?" and "Does the presence ofsicknessanddiseasealwaysindicatedemonicactivity?"

TheseareintendedtohelpequipstudentsofGod'sWordinthefightagainstpowersandprincipalitiesarrayedagainstthem.

Thank God, when we learn our authority, and when we learnwhattheWordofGodteachesconcerningdealingwithdemons,wedohavevictoryoverthedevilinanysituation.

Question:CanaChristianhaveademon?

Answer: There is no such thing as a Christian's being demonpossessed. To be demon possessed means to be completelytakenover—spirit,soul,andbody—bythedevil.

ThiswasthecasewiththemadmanatGadara(Mark5).

Of course, if a person backslides, he's over in the devil'sterritory.Byyieldingtothedevil,hecouldbetakenover.

But there is no such thing as a Christian's being demonpossessed, even though he might not be walking in the bestfellowshipintheworld.(Somepeoplemaynotbewalkinginthebestfellowship,butthey'rewalkinginallthelighttheyhave.)

A Christian, on the other hand, can be oppressed. All thedemons I've dealt with in Christians have either been in thebodyorthemind.You'llfindthat'swheretheiractivityis.

ApersoncouldbackslideanddeliberatelywalkawayfromGod,and the devil could eventually take over his spirit. But aChristianwalkingwithGodcan'tbetakenoverbythedevil.Infact,thedevilcan'tdoanythinginhimwithouthispermission.TheBiblesays,"Neithergiveplacetothedevil"(Eph.4:27).

Something we need to realize is that there are degrees ofoppressionandpossession.IfyouhavereceivedthebaptismoftheHolySpirit,youcansay, "Ihave theHolySpirit."ButhowmuchofyoudoestheHolySpirithave?Youcanbehalfwayorfully yielded to Him. The same is true concerning oppression.Youcanbehalfwayorfullyyieldedtothedevil.

Question: Does the presence of sickness and disease alwaysindicatedemonicactivity?

Answer: Thedevil is behind all sickness anddisease, but thatdoesn'tmeanthere is the literalpresenceofanevilspirit ina

person.ScripturetellsusJesus"...wentBibleAnswerstoMan'sQuestions on Demons about doing good, and healing all thatwereoppressedof thedevil. . . . " (Acts10:38).Hedidn't justsingle out certain ones and say that they were oppressed,becausetheBibleteachesthatallsicknessisoppressionoftheenemy.

Butsometimesthereistheliteralpresenceofaspiritthere.Insome cases a demon that brought a certain sickness mayremaininthebodyandenforcesickness,sothatdemonhastobedealtwith.

Question: Should you talk to demons when calling them out?Answer:WhenJesusappearedtomeinavisionin1952toteachmeaboutthedevil,demons,anddemonpossession,Hetoldmethis: "When you get into the presence of those who are fullydemonpossessed,fromthismomentforwardtheywillrecognizeyouliketheydidmewhenI'dgointotheTemple.They'dcryouttome,'Weknowthee,whothouart.'Butdon'tletthemtalk."

Did you ever notice that Jesus would tell them to be quiet?There'snoScriptureintheNewTestamentwhereHeeverheldaconversationwithdemons.Hetoldme,

"Fromthisnightforward,througheitherthewordofknowledgeor discerning of spirits, you will know what kind of spirit apersonhas,andyoucancallhimout."

There are many kinds of spirits. There are deceiving spirits,lying spirits, religious spirits, homosexual and lesbian spirits,deaf anddumb spirits, andmanymore.And I '11 tell you thetruth — some of those spirits smell. The homosexual spiritssmelltheworst.I'vewalkedintoaroomandhaveknowntherewas somebody there with a homosexual spirit; and I haveknownwhoitwasin.Ialsocantellwhenthespiritofdeathisonsomebody.Icansmellitsometimes.

Jesustoldmeinthevision,"Tocastdemonsout,yousometimes(butnotalways)needtoknowwhatkindtheyBibleAnswerstoMan's Questions on Demons are. First, tell a demon to comeout,andifhedoesn't,askhowmanythereare."

You remember when Jesus was casting demons out of theGadarenedemoniacHeasked,"Whatisthyname?"

Theanswer,"Legion,"involvedbothnameandnumber.

Question: Can a person be possessed bymore than onedemon?

Answer:No,onlyoneevilspiritdoesthepossessing.

When Jesus went to the country of the Gadarenes, the Bibletellsus"...immediatelytheremethimoutofthetombsamanwithanuncleanspirit...."(Mark5:2).

NoticetheScripturessay"spirit"(singular).Nowverse15tellsus,"And they come to Jesus, and see him that was possessedwiththedevil,andhadthelegion. . . ."Butyousee,allthosedemons didn't possess that man. Onlyoneof them possessedhim. He wasn't possessed with 2,000 devils, or a legion. Theotherswereinthere,butonlyoneofthempossessedhim.

Question:Canthedevilseewhatwe'redoing?

Answer:IwasonceholdingsomemeetingsinSouthTexas,andachurchinanearbytownwasbetweenpastors.

TheboardaskedifIwouldpreachforthemforabouttendaysafter I finished my meetings. I told them I would, and theyassured me they would reserve a room for me at a certainmotel.

When I arrived at the motel, the main deacon of the churchcalled me and said, "Brother Hagin, I hate to bother you, butyouknowsomethingaboutdealingwith thiskindof thing.Myson,whois37yearsofage,isondrugsandalcohol."

Heexplained that the youngmanwouldgowild andwouldn'tstayhome,buthe'dcomebackonceinawhile.

Mostly he just wandered around. He didn't have any home,BibleAnswerstoMan'sQuestionsonDemonsandheneverhadbeenmarried.Whenhewouldcomeback,hisparentswouldtrytohelphim,buthe'dthrowspellsandbreakfurniture.Hehadreturned thatdayandwashavingsomekindof spell.Hemayhavebeenhighondrugs.

Thisdeaconsaid, "Idon'tknowwhat todo. Ihate tohavemyownsonarrested."ItoldhimIwouldgotoseehim.

When Igot to theirhouse, thesonwassittingon thecouch. Ineverhadmethim.Hewasindisarray,hishairwasstandinguponend,andhewasholdinghisheadinhishands,moaning.Helookedupandsaid,"Iknowwhoyouare!Isawyouwhenyoucameintotownthisafternoon.Isawyouwhenyoucamedownsuch-and-suchstreet.

Isawyouwhenyouturned."

I said, "Yeah, I know you know me and you know I've gotauthorityoveryou.Nowyoushutup!Shutup in theNameofJesus!"

Thedevilinhimhadwatchedmecometotown.But,thankGod,we have authority over every demonic spirit in the Name ofJesus.Wehavenothingtofear.

Question: When dealing with demons in a person's life,whatisthenextsteponcethepersonhasbeendelivered?

Answer: When a person is delivered from sin, from sickness,from the devil, or from anything, he immediately needs to bepushedintothedisciplineofconfession,testimony,andservice.

WecanfollowtheexampleofJesus.Mark5tellshowJesuswentwithHisdisciplesacrosstheSeaofGalileetothecountryoftheGadarenes and was immediately met by a lunatic, a mancompletely possessed by a demon. We can get someunderstandingoftheawfulpowerthathadovercomethatmanby looking at the destruction of the herd of swine after Jesushaddeliveredhim.

Themanhadbeencompletelydelivered.Hisentireappearancehadchanged.Before,hehadbeenawildmaniac.Nowhewassitting at the feet of Jesus, clothed and in his right mind. Hewanted to cling to Jesus, his Deliverer. And he desired to gowithJesusandremainwithHim.Butthe19thverseofMark5says,"Howbeit Jesussuffered him not, but saith unto him, Gohome to thy friends, and tell them how great things the Lordhathdoneforthee,andhathhadcompassiononthee."

Yousee,Jesusknewthemanneededtobepushedoutintothedisciplineofconfession,testimony,andservice.

So immediately He sent him out to spread the news of hisdeliveranceinhishometownandtohispeople.

Jesus knew that every advance would give this man newassurance and strength. And before long, the entire region ofDecapoliswas so stirredby this oneman's testimony that thewaywasprepared for theLord Jesus, andamightyworkwaswrought.

MarkrecordsinhisGospelwhathappenedduringJesus'secondvisittothecoastsofDecapolis:agreatmultitudecametohearHim, a deaf and dumb man was healed, and a few fish andloavesofbreadweremultiplied to feed the4,000 (Mark7:31-8:9).Thinkaboutthepowerofthatoneman'stestimony!

Sometimeswemusttrustyoungdiscipleswiththeboldestandmostdifficultservice.It'sgoodforthem.Itwillmakethemgrowupinahurry!

I'm not saying that they won't need help and encour-agementfrom more mature Christians, but even baby Christians have

authority in the Name of Jesus. God wants people to grow upspiritually so they can stand on their own two feet. He wantsthemtotaketheirplace inChrist,knowingtheNameof Jesusbelongs to them as much as it does to the preacher orevangelist.Theycanputthedeviltoflight!

Question:Dowehaveauthorityoverothers'wills?

Answer:Oftenwetrytotaketheauthoritywehaveinourownlivesandexerciseit insomebodyelse'slife.Butwedon'thaveit.Yousee,youcanrunthedevilofffromyourownlife,butyoucan't always run the devil off from somebody else's. I canhandlemyownfinances,butIcan'talwayshandleyourfinancesunlessyouturnthemovertome.

Spiritual things are just as real as material or natural things.Butwhenitcomestospiritualthings,itseemswethinkwecanintrude into other people's lives without their consent.Sometimespeoplewillactlikethey'regivingtheirconsent,buttheirheartisnotinit.Theywon'tevenlookyouintheeye.

Aslongasaperson'sownmentalityandwillisatworkandhecancontrolhimself,hehasalottodowithhisdeliverance.Youmustteachpeopletheirresponsibilitytoagreewithyou.

Ifaperson'smindisgone—ifhe'sinsane—that'sadifferentthing.That'swherewehavetodependontheSpiritofGodtohelpus.Wedon'thaveauthoritythere.

That'sanother"household"—anotherperson.

Ifwecouldexerciseauthorityinthatarea,wecouldmakeeverysinnerintheworldgetsaved!Seewherewemissit?Wetakeatruththatappliestousandwetrytoworkitinsomebodyelse'slife. Did you ever stop to think that it didn't work in your lifeuntilyouwereenlightenedandyouputittowork?

Question: Will the devil try to return after he has beencastout?

Answer:Thedevilalwayswillendeavortogorightbacktotheplacehehasleft.ThatisaspiritualprincipleexplainedforusinMatthew12:

MATTHEW12:43,44

43 When the unclean spirit is gone out of a man, he walkeththroughdryplaces,seekingrest,andfindethnone.

44 Then he saith, I will return into my house from whence Icameout;andwhenheiscome,hefindethitempty,swept,andgarnished.

Ifyougetsaved,thedevilwilltrytogetbackinyourlife;he'lltry to get you to dowrong. If youweredelivered of sickness,he'lltrytoputthesamethingbackonyou.

Matthew12:45tellsus:"Thengoethhe,andtakethwithhimselfsevenotherspiritsmorewickedthanhimself,andtheyenterinanddwellthere:andthelaststateofthatmanisworsethanthefirst...."

Indealingwithdemons in the livesofChristians,youmustbecarefultogettheWordintopeople.Otherwiseyou'lldothemaninjustice, because they may wind up seven times worse thanwhattheywere.

Question:Howmuchauthoritydowehavetokeepdevilsoffourproperty?

Answer:TheChurchoftheLordJesusChristhasmoreauthoritythan we have realized yet. Demons will not act up as long asthey are in my presence; they know I've got authority overthem.

Ernie Reb, a missionary to the Philippines, had an inci-denthappenonetimeinvolvingdevilsonhisproperty.Hehadmovedto an island that was supposed to be the very stronghold ofSatan.Hewasbuildingahomeontheislandandwasplanningtolivethere.

During the construction, one of the carpenters startedhollering,andBrotherRebwenttoseewhatwaswrong.

The fellow was thrashing around like he was wrestling withsomething.Hewasyelling, "Gethimoffofme!Gethimoffofme!"

BrotherRebsaid,"Isawsomethingriphispantsleg.

Toothmarksappeared,andthemanstartedbleedingfromthehipdown.Allthistimehewashollering,'Gethimoffofme!'

"Irealizedithadtobethedevil.Isaid, 'IcommandyouintheNameoftheLordJesusChrist,youleavehim!

This ismyproperty.You'vegotno rightonmyproperty.' "Hesaidthethingranoff.Heneverdidseehim,buttheothermansawhim.

After that the other carpenters became afraid to work there.The witch doctor came, and he wanted to sacrifice a pig andchicken.Theirbloodwassupposedtoappeasethedemons.

Brother Reb said, "No! You won't come on my property! You

won't sacrifice anything on my property! There are no evilspiritshere.Itoldthemnottocomeback.Theywon'tcomeonmy property. They won't set foot on my ground. Tell thatcarpentertocomeback.Thatwon'thappenagain."

Yousee,thosedemonsknewBrotherReb.Thedevilsknowyou.Theywillsitaroundandlaughatyouifyoudon'texerciseyourauthority.

ThewitchdoctorcamebackandsaidtoBrotherReb,

"Ifthatmancomesbacktoworkandthedeviljumpsonhimandkills him, you'll be responsible. He has a wife and severalchildren,andyou'llhavetotakecareofthemifhe'skilled."

Brother Reb said, "Tell him to come back. Those devils won'tattack him anymore. I have forbidden them to come on myproperty, just like I'm forbidding you. You're not offering anysacrificesonmyproperty."

Thecarpenterwasoffworkquiteawhile,waitingforhislegtoheal.Hecouldn'tevenwalkonit.Buteventuallyhecamebackand never was attacked anymore. When we boldly resist thedevil,hehastoflee.

Question:Howmuchauthorityoverthedevildowehavewhenweareinhisterritory?

Answer: The devil has no right to trespass on God's property.But if you trespass on the devil's property, he's got a right tojump on you. God can't keep him from it, and you can't keephimfromit,becauseyou'reonhisproperty.

It'slikethis:Idon'thaveauthorityinyourhouseorapartment.Ican'tgothereandsay,"We'regoingtomoveeverythingoutofthisroomandsellallofit."

In the house of God, if the devil comes around, we've gotauthority.But ifwego to thedevil'shouseand try toexerciseauthority,hemaythrowusout.

Inthesummerof1954IwaspreachinginOregonandhadmyfamily with me. We took a short vacation while traveling tomeetings Iwasholding.On thewayhome,westopped inSaltLakeCity,Utah,toseetheMormonTemple.

(I had studied the history of Mormonism and the Book ofMormon.Ididn'tagreewithitbecauseit'sunscriptural.

Itdoesn'tagreewithPaul'srevelation.)Aguidewasshowingusaround, explaining how the temple had been built. I waslistening intently when I heard somebody hit the ground. I

didn't turn around because I was listening to the guide. Butsomebodysaid,

"That man fell." About that time my wife looked around andsaid,"Daddy,ourbaby!"(ItwasKen,andactually,hewas15atthetime.)Hehadhitthegroundsohardthathisshoesflewoff.He was lying on his back with his knees drawn up to hisstomachandhisfaceworkinginsomekindofseizure.

Ifyouhadanyspiritualsenseatall,youcouldsenseevilspiritswhen you stepped on the grounds. These were religiousdemons.They'retheworstkindtogetridof.

They'rethemostdifficulttocastoutofaperson.Youcangetridofanadulterousoralustfuldemonahundredtimesfasterthanyoucanareligiousdemon.

SothereKenlay.Instantlythedevilgavemeallkindsofmentalpictures of my preaching deliverance and Ken being in somekindofinstitution.

Theguidesaid,"ThathappensveryoftenwhenIgettothepartin my lecture about Moroni" (the angel who supposedlyappeared to Joseph Smith). The guide thought it was asupernatural manifestation to corroborate what he had toldabout.Hesaid,"Justpullthatboybackunderatree.He'llsooncomeoutofit."

Iturnedaround,grabbedholdofKen'sarmandsaid,"ComeoutofhimintheNameofJesusChrist!"Iliterallyliftedhimbyhisarms,lookedhimrightintheeyeandsaidagain,"Comeoutofhim!"Ishoutedthethirdtime,

"Come out of him!" When I said it the third time, the demoncameout.Ithadn'tbeeninhisspirit,buthadattackedhisbody.

Kenstraightenedup,blinkedhiseyesandsaid,"Daddy,Daddy,whereamI?"

I said out loud, "Well, we got on the devil's territory and hejumpedonyou.ButtheNameofJesusdeliveredyou.Nowlet'sgetoffthedevil'sterritorybeforehejumpsonsomeoftherestofus."Wedrovedownthehighwayrejoicingoverourvictory.

Kenbegantellinghissideofthestory.HesaidthelastthingherememberedwastheguidetalkingaboutMoroni.

Heexplained,"Ifeltsomethingcomeoutoftheground.

Itgot intomy feetand then intomyknees.When itgotup toaboutmystomachIdon'trememberanythingelse."

ThepowerofGoddoesnotcomeupoutoftheground.

Thatwasn'ttheHolySpirit.Andbesides,wegotridofitintheNameofJesus.

Ken said, "Daddy, what if that had happened at school?" Ianswered,"Don'teverbeafraiditwillhappenagain.Ifyouareafraid,you'llopenthedoortothedevil."

You'vegotauthorityoverSatan,butknowthis:Don'tgetonhisterritory.

Literallyspeaking, ifyougotoplacescontrolledbySatan,youcangetattacked.

Spiritually speaking, if you get into disobedience, you getspirituallyoverintothedevil'sterritory.

Youcanclaimprotection,however,andgowhereveryouhavetogo.

Question:Howdoyouministertosomeonewhoisinsane?

Answer: The treatment of the insane is one of the mostimportantquestionsconnectedwiththesubjectoffaith.

In my experience in dealing with cases of insanity, there isn'tonesetpatternyoucanfollow.

Butthereisonethingwemustremember:Thetrueremedyforalldeliverance—fromsin,fromsickness,fromdemons,orfromany evil — is the power of Jesus Christ. Paul says in Romans1:16:"ForIamnotashamedofthegospelofChrist:foritisthepowerofGoduntosalvation...."

InTheScofieldReferenceBible,thefootnotetothisversestatesthat theGreekandHebrewwords translated"salvation" implydeliveranceandhealing.ThereispowerintheGospelofChristtodeliver.

In1953IwaspreachinginDallas,Texas,holdingmeetingsforapastorwhowasawayonsummerleave.Ihadbeentellingaboutinsane people who had been delivered. I told how somereceiveddeliverancebywearingprayerclothsIhadlaidhandson.Threepeople,infact,receivedtheirdeliveranceat3o'clockintheafternoonafterwearingtheclothstendays.Idon'tknowwhyithappenedthatway,butitdid.

I also told about a woman brought to our parsonage from anasylum.TheSpiritofGodtoldmetogostandinfrontofherandsay,"Comeout,thouuncleandevil,intheNameofJesus!"

Afterhearingmetellofthesethings,awomancametomeand

said, "BrotherHagin,myneighborhas losthermind.Shehasbeen committed to an asylum and is waiting the required tendays before admission. She's not saved, and neither is herhusband.

"In the past I have tried to get them to come to church, butthey've said, 'We're justnot interested in things like that.' Yetwhen people get into trouble and are desperate, they'll donearly anything. I'm going to see if the husband will let mebringhiswifetothemorningservice."

Shetalkedtotheneighbor,andheagreedhiswifecouldcome,sothiswomanbroughther.Theinsanewomanactedlikealittlechild, moving around all the time. She'd con-stantly talk outloudand jumpup.Right in themiddleofmyBible lesson,shewouldpopupandsay,"Iwantadrinkofwater."Hermindwasgone.Thatfirstdayshedidn'tpayanyattentionatall.

Thesecondday,beforetheservicewasover,Inoticedhereyeson me. She sat there and listened intently. The third day shecamewithaBibleinherhand,andshe'dopenitandfollowme.Thefourthdayshewastakingnotes.

Before the ten days were up, she was saved, baptized in theHoly Spirit, speaking in tongues, and her mind was all right.Sheneverhadtogototheasylum.Iwentbackfiveyearslater,andsheandherhusbandwereinchurchandonfireforGod.Inever prayed for her, never cast any devil out of her, or laidhandsonher.TheWordofGoddidit!

WhileIwaspreachinginthissamechurch,anotherwomantoldme she had a sister about 30 years old who had been in anasylum since shewas a teenager.Doctors had said shewouldalwaysneed institutional care.They'd said shewould live anddieintheasylum.However,shewasallowedtocomehome,attimes,onfurlough.

Thiswomansaid,"I'llbringhertothesedayteachingservices.Shecanunderstandwhatyou'resaying."

So she went and got her. The sister sat there and heard theWord.Ineverprayedforherorlaidhandsonher.Buthermindbecame perfectly all right as she listened to the Word beingpreached.

Igotaletterfroma38-year-oldwomanwhohadspenthalfherlife in a state institution. She said, "Somebody gave me yourbook, Right and Wrong Thinking. Then I ordered some morebooks." The same doctors who said she would always needinstitutionalcarepronouncedherwellanddismissedher.

Thetrueremedyfordeliverance,friends,isthepowerofChrist.

There's no doubt that when dealing with insanity there aresometimes long and severe trials of faith, but God's Wordalwaysworks.

This woman who was delivered through reading Right andWrongThinkingisnowdevotingherlifetovisitingtheinsane.

She said, "You can't coddle these patients. People used tosympathize with me and make it worse. I'm having greatsuccessgettingpeopledelivered,but Iget toughwith them. Isay,'It'suptoyou.'"

Question:Whydodemonswanttoinhabithumanbeings?

Answer:Demonsare fallenbeingsanddisembodiedspirits.Tohave the widest possible range of expression, they need tooperate through the physical. That's the reason they want toembodyman.Asasecondchoice,they'llembodyanimals.Whentheydoembodyman,theymakemanwhattheyare.

Question:Isalcoholismademon?

Answer: There's no doubt in my mind that alcoholism is ademon.I'vehadanynumberofpeopletellme,

"BrotherHagin,whenyoulaidhandsonme,ananointingcameintomeandIwasdeliveredfromalcoholism."

Onesuchtestimonycamefromamanwhohadbeenanofficerin theU.S.Army.Hehadbeen in threegovern-ment hospitalsandthreeprivatehospitals."Itookthecureforalcoholism,"hetoldme,"andcameoutdrinking."

He was a man nearly 60 years old. He said, "I rememberedwhenIwas13yearsoldIknewtheLord.IknewthestoryoftheProdigal Son, so I got down on my knees and prayed, 'DearLord,I'mcominghome,justliketheProdigalSonofold,andIaskYoutoforgiveme.'"

He said, "I know the Lord took me back. I had peace in myspirit. It felt to me like a 2,000-pound weight rolled off mychest.Butmybodystillwasboundwith thatalcoholdemon. Icouldn'tquitdrinking."

A friend invitedhim to one of ourmeetings, andhewent.Hehadn'tbeentochurchinyears,andhedidn'tunderstandwhatwashappening in the serviceaspeople lifted theirhandsandprayedasone,rightoutloud.

The church he had gone to as a youngster was quiet andconservative.He toldme later, "Thenyou started thathealingline and nearly everybody you laid hands on fell on the floor.

That startled me. I said to my friend, 'Well, I'm going downtherebecauseIneedhelpdesperately,butI'mnotgoingtofallliketherestofthem!'"

He told me, "The next thing I knew, I was getting up off thefloor. I don't even remember falling. Two outstand-ing thingshappenedtome:First,whenyoulaidhandsonme,somethinglikeelectricitywentalloverme—warmthwentalloverme.Itwasagreatspiritualexperience.IgotclosertoJesus.Itmademe love Him more. Second, that alcohol demon I was boundwithallthoseyearsleftme.

I've never touched another drop. I've never even wantedanotherdrink!"ThankGodforthepowerofGod!

Question: How do you stop demonic activity that iscausingbelieverstohindertheworkofthechurch?

Answer: If anyone isharassing, intimidating,embarrassing,ordeterringtheministryofthechurch,youknowthat'sthedevil.Youdon'thave tohavediscerningofspirits.Youdon'thave tosee thedevil. Youdon't have to know it supernaturally. That'sjustthedevil.

Any Christian can put a stop to that kind of activity in theprivacyofhisownhome.Youdon'thavetogooutandbroadcastit.Youdon'thavetodealwiththeperson.

Justsay,"Youfoulspiritthat'soperatingthroughSo-and-so(andcalltheperson'sname),embarrassing, intimidating,harassing,ordeterringtheministryofthechurch,IcommandyoutostopinJesus'Name."

Believerscanunconsciouslyyieldtothedevilandbeusedofthedevil. But that doesn't mean they're unsaved or demonpossessed.Ittakestimeandexperiencetolearnnottoyieldtothedevil.

Question:Whatarethemostimportantqualificationsforsuccessindealingwithdevils?

Answer:IfweknowGodhasplannedtouseusinacertainway,wecanprepareourselvessowe'llbemoreefficientinthatarea.

Youprepareyourselfbyfastingandpraying,bywaitingonGod,by meditating in the Word, and by living right. There are twothingsthatareimportantifyou'regoingtodealwithdevils:(1)You'vegot to live right. If youdon't live right, youwon'thaveanyconfidenceandthedevilwill laughatyou.(2)Youhavetohaveboldness.

And you can't be bold unless you know your rights and

privilegesinChristJesus.

Question: Can demons manifest themselves in thephysicalrealm?

Answer: Yes, although we have the authority to stop thosesupernaturalmanifestations.

When Dr. Lester Sumrall was building a church in thePhilippinesinthe1950s,heheardontheradioaboutagirlwhowould fight with something nobody could see, though peoplecouldseetoothmarksandsalivaonher.Shehadtobeconfinedinajailcell.

Doctors and psychiatrists examining her asked her what hadbeen biting her. She said, "There are two hairy-lookingmonsters. One is big and the other is small, and they attackme."Theyweredemonsmanifestingthemselvesinthephysicalrealm.Ofcourse,shewasnotaChristian.

Dr.Sumrallgotpermissiontoseeher.Whenhefirstenteredthejailcell,thedevilsupernaturallyspokethroughherinEnglish,"I don't like you." The devil cursed him, cursed God, cursedJesus,andcursedtheblood.

After Dr. Sumrall got the girl delivered, she couldn't speak awordofEnglish.Hehad to communicatewithher throughaninterpreter.

Thedevilhadspokenoutofhermouthsupernaturally.

Those toothmarks were real. That wasn't the girl talking inEnglish,saying,"Idon'tlikeyou."Itwasthedevil.

Sothedevilcandosomesupernatural things.But, thankGod,wedohaveauthorityoverhim.

Question:Canademonaffecttheatmosphereofanentirechurch?

Answer:Yes,ademoncanholdachurchinbondage.

A certain church where I held a meeting was a very difficultplacetopreach.Thepeopleweregoodpeople.

TheylovedtheLord.Theylovedmypreaching.Butitwastoughtopreachthere.Theveryatmospherewashard.

Everything I said seemed tobounceoff thewall back intomyface.

SomemonthslaterIreturnedtotheareatopreacharevivalatanotherchurch.Ialsowentbacktothisfirstchurchandspent

sometimewiththepastorandhisfamily.

IspokeataNewYear'sEvewatchnightserviceforthem.

Thenextday,thepastor'swifeasked,"BrotherHagin,canyouseeanydifferenceinourchurch?"

Isaid,"Whatdoyoumean?"

Shesaid,"Isitanyeasiertopreachhere?Whataboutthepulpitnow?"

I said, "There's as much difference as between daylight anddark.Itdoesn'tseemlikethesamepulpit.Itdoesn'tseemlikethesamechurch."

Shesaid,"Getmyhusbandtotellyouaboutit."

The pastor said, "I don't usually tell people about it becausetheymightthinkIamcrazy."

The spiritual world ought to be as real to us as water is to afish. Yet, many in the church think a person is a fanatic if hetouchesthatworld.

"Iwon'ttelleverybody,"thepastorsaid,"butIwilltellyou.Igotsoconcerned.ThiswasthehardestchurchIeverpreachedin.The pulpit seemed to hold me in bondage. I knew the peoplelovedme.Theysupportedmewell.Wehadgoodfellowshipwiththemintheirhomes.

Butthatpulpitwaslikeaprison.

"Ibegantofastandprayaboutit.Theseventhdayofmyfast,Iwaskneelingontheplatformaboutthreefeetbehindthepulpitwhen I happened to look directly overhead. The ceilingdisappeared."

(Discerningofspiritshadcomeintomanifestation.Godallowedthispastortoseeintothespiritrealm.Hesaw,sittingupintheraftersdirectlyabovethepulpit,ahugespirit. It looked likeabigbaboon.Itwasaslargeasaman.)

Thepastorsaid,"Ifoundmyselfsayingtohim,'You'regoingtohave to come down.' The spirit said nothing, but seemed todrawupasifhedidn'twanttoobey.Isaid,'YoucomedownintheNameoftheLordJesusChrist.'

"Hefelldownontothepulpit,thenjumpedtothefloor.

Isaidtohim,'Yougetoutofhere!'Hesaidnothing,butlookedatmeasiftosay,'Idon'twantto.'Isaid,'Justmarchrightoutof here, in the Name of Jesus.' He marched down off the

platform.Imarchedrightbehindhim.Hewouldgofourorfivesteps, then stop and look at me, almost begging. I would say,'No,goon.'Buthewouldn'tmoveuntilIsaid, 'IntheNameofJesus.'

"Wewentdown theaisle thatway, stoppingevery fouror fivesteps. Iwentaheadofhimandheld thevestibuledoorsopen.(The spirit could have gone through the doors, of course, butthis is what the pastor did.) That thing would not go throughuntilIsaid,'IntheNameofJesus.'

"ThenIopenedthefrontdoor.Isteppedbackandsaid,

'Moveonout.'Hestoodthere.Heneversaidaword,butIcouldtellbytheexpressiononhisface,hewasbeggingtostay.Isaid,'IntheNameofJesus,'andhemoved.

"Hewentdown thechurch stepsandgothalfwayout into theyard.Thenhestopped,turnedaround,andlookedatmeagain.Isaid,'No,youdon't.YougoonintheNameofJesus.'

"Hewentas faras thecurb. I said, 'You'llhave togoon.Anddon'tevercomeonthesepremisesagain.'HestoodthereuntilIsaid,'IntheNameofJesus.'Thenheranacrossthestreetanddown theother sideabout aquarter of amile. Iwatchedhimrunintoanightclub.Thenextnightitburneddown.

"Eversince, ithasbeeneasy topreachhere.Thepeoplehavenoticed. They have asked, 'What happened?' But I didn't tellthem."

Question:Howdo youhelp someone receive deliverancefromsmoking?

Answer:Amancametomeintearsafteranightser-

vice.Hesaid,"BrotherHagin,youhaven'tcondemnedme,butmy own heart condemns me. I'm 63 years old. I've smokedcigarettessinceIwas12.Iwanttobefree.Canyouhelpme?"

Isaid,"Icertainlycan.Allyouhavetodoisgivemepermissiontodoit."

Hesaid,"Igiveyoupermission.Iwanttobehelped."

Ilaidmyhandonhisshoulderandsaid,"IntheNameofJesus,Ibreak the power of nicotine over your life. And I am going tosay this by faith: Thenext cigarette you smokewillmake yousick."

Hetoldmelater,"Iwenthomethatnight.UsuallythelastthingIdidbeforegoingtobedwassmokeacigarette.

Idon'tknowwhy,butIdidn'tsmokethatnight.Ididn'tsmokethenextmorning.IdidputthecigarettesinmypocketasIleftthehouse."

Thismanwasatruckdriver.Thatmorninghepickedupafellowheknew.Thepassengerwassmokingwhenhegotinthetruck.

"Inevergotsosickinmylife,"themantoldme."Irolleddownthewindowtogetsomeair.Finally,Ihadtoaskhimtoputouthiscigarette."

Question: How can you help a person who is beinghinderedbythedevilfromspeakingintongues?

Answer: Demons attempt to hinder people in every aspect ofspiritual life.They try tokeeppeople fromall theblessingsofGod.

ChristianswhohavefelttootimidtotestifyortoprayinpublichavehadtheirtonguesloosedinstantlyintheNameofJesus.

We always must be sensitive to the Holy Spirit when dealingwithpeople.InprayingforChristianstobefilledwiththeHolySpirit,forinstance,sometimesitisthedevilwho'sholdingthemback. It isn't always the case, but I am sensitive to the HolySpiritwhenIpraywithpeople,andIknowwhenitis.

Iknewthatitwasthiswaywithonewomanwhenshetoldmehowmanyyears shehadbeen seeking. I laidmyhandonhershoulder and said, "I rebuke you, foul spirit of doubt. In theNameofJesus,leavethiswoman!"

Instantly,shestartedtalkingintongues.

Thishashappenedtimeandtimeagain.Ijustlaymyhandsontheperson'sshoulder,andverycalmly,veryquietly,sometimesundermybreath,Isay,"Irebukeeverydevilthatisholdingthisperson." Instantly they lift both hands and start talking intongues.

Question: Is itnecessary to lookademonpossessedperson intheeyetogethimdelivered?

Answer: You have to make contact with a person's eyessometimesbeforeyoucangetthedeviloutofhim.Sometimesaperson'sspiritistryingtohide.Butyoucangetholdofhisspiritwithyourspiritandinstantlyhe'llreceivedeliverance.

Question: Does God tell us to pray that He'll do somethingaboutthedevil?

Answer:No.TheScripturessay foryou toresist thedeviland

he'llfleefromyou(James4:7).Youistheunderstoodsubjectofthesentence.

Peter says, "Your adversary" (1 Peter 5:8). (Adversary means"enemy,opponent,oronearrayedagainstyou.")Yes,we'vegotanenemy,anopponent,onewhoisarrayedagainstus.

Satan is the god of this world, seeking whom he may devour.Peter'swritingswereaddressedtoChristians.Theadversaryisnot walking about seeking how many he may devour; it's thesaintshe'safter.Whatareyougoingtodoaboutit?Stickyourhead in the sand like an ostrich and pray that he'll go away?Rolloverandplaydeadlikeapossum?

Some have said, "I'll just write in a request for those TVpreacherstopray.I'llwritetothatHaginfellow.He'sgotfaith.Maybeifhe'llpray,thedevilwillleavemealone."

No,seriously,wehavetotakeauthorityoverthedevil.

Thank God we have authority over him. We don't need to getsomeoneelsetodosomethingaboutit.

Peter didn't say in his letters, "Our beloved Apostle Paul issending out handkerchiefs, and diseases are leav-ing people,anddemonsandevilspiritsaregoingoutfromthem.Whydon'tyouwritehimforahandkerchief?"

No, it isn'tnecessary foranychildofGod towriteanybody togetahandkerchief,orforanyonetogetsomeoneelsetoresistthe devil and he will flee from you. Go back to the fourthchapterofEphesians.RememberPaulsaid,"Neithergiveplacetothedevil"(Eph.4:27).Thatmeans,"Don'tyougivethedevilplaceinyou."Itmeanshecan'ttakeanyplaceunlessyougiveittohim,doesn'tit?Howareyougoingtokeephimfromit?Youresisthimandhewillflee.

Question:Isitharmfultotalkaboutthedevil'spower?

Answer: You can give place to the devil by giving him morecreditthanGod.Inchurch,somepeoplegivemorepraisetothedevil than to God. Born-again, Spirit-filled people praise thedevilmorethantheydoGod.

Some people say, "I'll tell you, the devil is here." At a placewhere I preached one time, the pastor got up and said, "Thedevilishere.He'sgotusallboundup.Idon'tknowhowintheworld Brother Hagin is going to preach in this kind ofatmosphere. We're going to hurry up here — and turn himloose."

WhenIgotupIsaid,"No,you'renotgoingtoturnmeloose.I

haven't beenbound to beginwith. I'malready loose!Now it'sbeensaid,'Thedevil'shere.'"

(You see, the more they talked about the devil, the morefrightened they got. They had been saying, "The devil's here,thedevil'stakenover,thedevil'sgotit."Thedevil,thedevil,thedevil—that'salltheytalkedabout.)

Isaid,"Thedevilwillcometochurchmoreregularlythanmostfaithful saints. But what of it? Jesus is here, God is here, theHolySpiritishere.GreaterisHethat'sinmethanhethat'sintheworld!"

The people started straightening up in their chairs when Istarted talking about God. I said, "I don't know if Jesus camewithyou,butHecamewithme.Evenifyoudidn'tbringHim,Idid.He'shere.Whatdowecareaboutthedevil?"

Beforelong,theywerejumpingandshoutingallovertheplace.

Many people talk about what the devil is doing and how he'skeeping them sick and unsuccessful. They give the devildominion over them. But if you'll talk about what God's Wordsays,thedevilwillrunfromyouinterror.

YouhaveauthoritybecauseoftheNameofJesus!

Question: Can you give an example of how God usesspiritualgiftstowarnusconcerningthedevil'stactics?

Answer:Yes.IwasholdingameetinginEastTexasinthe1950stowardthecloseoftheKoreanWar.OnenightIhadsomethinginmyspirit.IknewGodwasspeakingtoayoungman.

Isaid, "Youngman, Iseerightout in frontofyou—it'sonlyastep out in front of you — a black wall." (I could see, in theSpirit, a black wall.) I told him, "And once you step into it,you'regone.Idon'tknowwhatit is—butit'ssomethingrightout in frontofyou. Idoknowthismuch. Ifyou'llcometo thisaltarandgiveyourhearttoJesus,you'llbesavedandnevergointothatdarkness."

Thatyoungmandidn'tcome.Thepastoreventalkedtohim,buthewouldn'tcome.

Thenextweek,whileholdingameetingabout100milesaway,Igotaletterfromthepastor.

He said, "Brother Hagin, I thought you'd be interested inknowing this. The young man whom you said was going intodarkness went out and got drunk. He thought he was goinghome,buthewentintothewronghouse.Hebeganslamming,

hammeringandknockingonthedoor.

Hetorethescreendooroffandkickedthedoorin.

"Themanofthehousedidn'tknowwhowasthere.Heunloadedbothbarrelsofashotgunrightintheboy'sface."

This pastor said, "I went to the hospital and the boy was stillalive.Thedoctorsdidn'tunderstandhowhehadlived,andtheyknewhewouldn'tlivelong.

"I talked to him and told him who I was. You couldn't look athim,itwassopitiful.Butsomewheredowninhisthroat,Iheardthesewordscomeoutofhim: 'Oh,whydidn'tI listen!Why,ohwhy,didn'tI listen?Icouldn'tseethisdarknessout infrontofme,butIcouldfeelit.

If I had listened to God, I wouldn't have been drunk. If I hadlistened to God, I wouldn't have been out there And then helapsedoffandneverdidsayanythingelse."

Thepoor fellowwentout intoeternity.Was itGod's fault?No!God tried to get him to stop. God did His best to arrest hisattention.Buthedidn'tlisten.Hehadthepowertolisten.Whydidn'tGodoverrulehim?BecauseGoddoesn'tworkthatway.

Here's another example of spiritual gifts being used to warnbelievers.Inthiscase,amanwasbeingusedunwittinglybythedevil. I was preaching in Oklahoma when suddenly one night,theWordoftheLordcametome.

I said, "Now, everybody listen! (There were between 400 and500 people in the building.) This meeting will not have beenoveroneweekuntilamanwho'sinthisbuildingtonightwillfalldead on his front porch — unless he comes to this altar andrepents."Iknewthatinmyspirit.Ihadthatrevelation.

I said, "The man lives close enough to this church that youcouldthrowastonefromthechurchandhithishouse.

Hecametothealtarduringthismeeting,anditseemedlikeheprayed.Buthewentoutafterwardsandtoldsomeofyou,'Thatpreacher is a fake.' God, tonight, is calling that man torepentance."

Themanneverdidcome.Ilearnedlaterhewasoutinfrontofthe church laughing after the service. "Boy," he said, "thatpreachertriedtothrowascareintome,didn'the?ButIdon'tscarethateasy."

We closed the meeting on a Thursday night. The followingSunday the pastor called me. He said, "That man fell dead

yesterday afternoon on his front porch, just like you said. Helivedwithinastone'sthrowofthechurch."

Some people, in spite of everything God does, run over everybridgeandsignandeverythingGodputsup,andgorightontohell.

Question: Have you ever cast out demons that weremanifestinginsomeone'shome?

Answer:Yes,Iwasholdingameetingforapastorandhiswifealmost20yearsago,andtheyinvitedmetotheirhome.BothofthemwereministersoftheGospel.

Asweweresittingtheretalking,thewifesaid,

"Brother Hagin, I don't know how to say this to you, but thishousewe'relivinginhasmanifestationsofevilspirits."

Idon'tknowwhyshedidn'tdosomethingaboutit.

Shehadtheauthority.Shejustdidn'tknowit.

The pastor (he was one of the top men in his Full Gospeldenomination)wouldheartheevilspiritsgothroughthehouseand knock things over. His wife said, "I've actually spoken tooneandit'sspokenbacktome.I'vetoldittogoanditdidn't."

Isaid,"I'lltakecareofthatforyou."

"Willyou?"theyasked."We'vethoughtaboutmoving.'

"No,"Isaid."I'lltakecareofit.Youwon'teverseeorhearthesemanifestationsagainintheNameofJesus."

Just sitting there at the table, speaking in an ordinaryconversational tone, I said, "In the Name of Jesus I commandeveryevilspirit to leave,andalldemonicactivity inthishometocease."Itoldthecouple,"Nowit'sgone;you'llneverhearorseethosedemonsagain."

They told me last year — 19 years later — there was neveranother manifestation of that power. The pastor told me healmost had been embarrassed when his wife had brought thesubjectup.

ButI'mnotembarrassedtoknowthedevilanddemonsarereal,areyou?TheywererealinBibletimes,andthey'rejustasrealnowasthen.I'mnotafraidofthem.Andyououghtnottobe—notifyou'reaChristian,thatis.

Question: Are you ever afraid to deal with any case ofinsanitycausedbydemons?

Answer:No,Ihadanunusualexperienceasa17yearoldthatset me free, and it doesn't bother me to deal with any case.Since then I've dealt with seven people right out of mentalinstitutions. Doctors said they would never be any better. Sixoutofthesevenweredelivered,andtheseventhmayhavebeen—Ijusthaven'theard.

This experience I had as a young man happened as I waswalking down a street in my home town. Something suddenlycamedownonme.ThebestIcandescribeit,itwasabigblacksomethingandall thehouses tookonadifferent look. Ididn'tknowwhereIwas.Ifeltlikerunningandscreamingandpullingmy hair. Something said, "You're going to wind up in theasylum."

ButIsaid,"Noyoudon't,devil,intheNameofJesus!"

Thank God for that Name. I said, "In the Name of Jesus, youleaveme!"Itwasrighttherethreefeet in frontofme. Icouldnotseeit,butitwasstillreal.

Well, that thing left me. The houses took on the right kind oflook. I said, "Now you go right on and leave me alone, in theNameofJesus."

The thing backed off. It got far enough away that it didn'tbotherme.Butas Iwalkedondownthestreeta fewfeetandgot my mind off the Lord and on something else, suddenly itcamedownagain.Itwasasifasackhaddroppedovermyhead.Ididn'tknowwhereIwas.Everyhousetookonafunnylook.Itseemedlikemyhairstoodstraightupontopofmyhead.

Iwantedtostartrunningdownthestreetscreamingandpullingmy hair, and if I had, I would have been completely gone.Somethingsaid,"You'regoingtowindupintheasylum."

Again I said, "Oh no you don't, devil! No, you don't in Jesus'Name!" And he left. I had that same experience three times.Andafterthethirdtimeitnevercameback.

TheNameof Jesus is just as powerful as thepersonof Jesus.TheNameofJesuscandoeverythingHedidwhenHewashere.ThankGodwedon'thavetofearthedevil.

Question: Did you ever cast the devil out of a violently angryperson?

Answer:Yes,andittakestheboldness,authority,andpowerofGod. You can't do anything within yourself. The Church is asupernatural Church with supernatural equipmerit, with asupernatural God, a supernatural Jesus, and a supernaturalHolySpirit.

IwasholdingameetinginSt.Louisonceandwasministeringtothesickbythe layingonofhands.Acouplecameby inthehealingline.Thewomanwasinawheelchairandherhusbandwaspushingher.Hecouldhardlywalkhimself(hehadarthritis,orsomethinglikethat).Buthealsohadadevilinhim.

I laid hands on the woman first. Her husband was standingbeside her, and his eyes flashed fire. He jumped forward andbegantocursemeviolently.

Igrabbedbothofhiswristsandpushedhimupagainstawall.Imadehimlookatme.Helookedaway.Isaid,

"No!Youlookmerightintheeye!"

Yousee,thedevildoesn'tliketohavehisbluffcalled.

Imadethatmanlookmerightintheeye.Igotmynosealmostupagainsthisnose.Isaid,"Now,comeoutofhim!

Comeoutofhim!IntheNameofJesus,COMEOUTOFHIM!"Andthatdevilcameout.

After the meeting that fellow was smiling, and he con-tinuedsmilingtherestoftheweek.

Weneedtohavesupernaturalservices—andnotplaychurch.Itallcomesaboutbyprayer.

Question:Onceyou'vebeendelivered,howcanyoumakesureyoukeepthatdeliverance?

Answer:Afterapersongetsdelivered,heneeds tochangehisways — his lifestyle — his thinking. Even Christians need tochange a lot of times. If you keep on thinking like you werethinking,thedevilwillcomerightback.

This may sound strange tp you, but it's absolutely the truth.Sometimes after people are healed or delivered, I know theywill wind up worse than they were to begin with. How do Iknow? They are still speaking negatively or thinking wrongly.Theywillwindupinthesamemesstheyweretobeginwith,orworse.

Itisafactthatthedevilwilltrytocomeback.He'shere.That'shisjob.IwishyoucouldgetChristianstobeasfaithfulontheirjobsasthedevilisonhis.

Tostaydelivered,peopleneedtoreadtheBible.Theyneedtodepart from evil and do good. They need to walk in closefellowshipwithGodthroughtheWordandthroughdailyprayer.
