    July 2013 Lesson title: Organising IELTS PART 1 speaking responses

    Room: Context: Talking about yourself

    No. of students: 3 Teacher: Kiri Wood

    Aims: By the end of the lesson students will be more confident in speaking concisely and fluently about themselves.

    Objectives: To help students organise their ideas for speaking part 1 by using linking words, topic categorisation and a 3 step answer scheme.

    Introduction/lead inTeacher (T) introduces self, gives reasons for the demo and puts lesson aims

    on the W/B.

    T asks students (Ss) how they feel about the speaking part of the IELTS and

    what they know about it. If necessary explains the procedure of the IELTS

    speaking.

    Lesson aims:1. Familiarise Ss with IELTS spking part 12. Predicting IELTS speaking topics3. Organising part 1 answers.4. Using linking words to make complex

    sentences

    Development and follow on

    T writes half sentences on the W/B, completes one as an

    example then asks the students to complete the sentences &

    writes up their answers.

    T corrects & clarifies any emerging grammar issues.

    Ss link topics to their sentences

    T writes ME in a circle on the W/B & asks Ss to link topics that

    are linked to talking about themselves.

    (T adds topics if necessary)

    Ss speak about one topic each.

    T writes the linking words on the W/B and Ss put them into

    the 3 categories.

    T writes a 3 step structure on the W/B for students to answerspeaking part 1 and gives them each a model answer.

    Ss put in the linking words to the model answers and then

    guess which one is the false answer.

    Ss identify the 3 steps on the model answer.

    Ss then use the same structure to make their own answer and

    should focus on using the linking words.

    T asks listening students which linking words they used.
