With over 35 colleges, Oxford serves as one of the premier universities in the world. The picture above was taken at the Christ Church Dining Hall famously replicated in the Harry Potter series.
Pyramids in Paris at The Louvre Museum known for
housing the Venus De Milo and Mona Lisa.
This trip to Europe was an experience that will always be labeled as unforgettable. The opportunity to intern in London and indulge in the many traveling opportunities that have led me to places like Paris and Oxford has broadened my horizons. I take pleasure in letting
photographs tell a story as they offer insight that even I may have missed. Enjoy!
Protests in Sweden that led to many arrests. Thousands of people took to the streets to combat racism and fascism that threatened Sweden’s democracy.
Why travel? And why travel to Europe?
Europe offers different flavors of cities. There’s no question that Rome is different from Stockholm. There’s no question that London is different from Florence. That’s the beauty of the world. Some of the greatest cities in the world contain so much culture and history. The culture takes vastly different forms. It can appear in paintings, music and/or food. I’ve embraced the experience. I’ve learned so many things. This trip has allowed me to really become “global”. That word is often thrown around and I feel that I’ve finally gotten a grasp on what it truly means. Since this trip, I’ve read more. I intend on taking additional language classes. It’s experiences like being in a rowdy protest that gets me riled up. The passion and flavor of the streets are incomparable to anything I’ve experienced in the United States. The people are well educated and curious for knowledge (students of Aristotle, Socrates or Plato). It was rejuvenating being in that atmosphere. The history in the paintings and the stories told through the arts reemphasized that there is a world outside of the States and I now have the travel bug – I never want to stop!
I went to see the Lion King musical this week. It cost me over $100 which was very expensive. Despite the hefty price tag, it was INCREDIBLE. They nailed every scene with amazing costumes, impeccable singing and a
brilliant usage of stage props. I was very impressed. I can only imagine how the experience was for those audience members under the age of 15. It must have been the time of their lives. It was a really good performance and I
would seriously recommend it to anyone.
Florence has to be one of the most beautiful cities I’ve ever been to in my life. The culture is so rich. Although, very touristy, it was incredible to be a part of the art and food associated with the city and the ultimately, Italy. I snuck a shot of the David while in a corner, my sincerest apologies.
One of my favorite photos! An inside birds-‐eye view of the Vatican. It was one of the most beautiful buildings
I’ve ever been in!
As I sit in my living room back in the States, I reminisce of my time when I was riding the Tube or walking the streets of Sweden. It was a remarkable trip! I’ve been blessed to have spent time in some amazing cities/towns: Washington D.C, Malibu, Los Angeles and London. I’ve already committed myself to revisiting but more importantly, spreading the importance of a travel abroad experience for those who come from low-‐income backgrounds. Life changes when you explore. Life changes when you get lost. Life changes when you’re eating dinner with a stranger who lives 10,000 miles away from where you call home. Through the bustling roads and the flood of tourists, Europe brought me a defining moment in my life – one that I will carry forever. For those, for whatever reason can’t travel abroad, I hope that opportunities arise where they can go. I’m dedicated to do my part so that they can experience what I did, an internal revolution.
