    What is DELTA?

    If you have substantial experience of teaching English to speakers of other languages, and are ready to progress your career, you need DELTA. This internationally recognised qualification helps you to

    deepen your understanding of the principles and practice of teaching the English Language to

    adults exa!ine your current practices and beliefs

    apply the results of your learning and reflection to your current teaching position and !ore seniorroles.

    How does DELTA relate to TEFL/TESOL?"TE#L" or "TE$%L" are ter!s often used to describe qualifications for English Language teachers. DELTA,the advanced TE$%L&TE#L qualification for practising English Language teachers, 'as previously kno'nas DTE#LA and the "($A diplo!a".

    Who is DELTA for?)ou !ay be a graduate, or already hold an initial teaching qualification, and are considering DELTA as a

    route to further career progression. The qualification is ideal if you 'ish to extend your professionalexperience and accept ne' responsibilities as it not only de!onstrates a co!!it!ent to the profession, butis also proof of your ability.)ou !ay be looking for an opportunity to increase your understanding of the principles and practice ofEnglish Language teaching to help i!prove your overall perfor!ance in the classroo!. As part of this

    process, DELTA courses encourage you to analyse your existing practices and beliefs. They also help youto apply the results of your learning and reflection both to your current professional life and to contexts

    beyond your present and previous teaching experience.

    What does DELTA involve?)ou can take DELTA full ti!e *typically t'o to three !onths+, or part ti!e *fro! six !onths to over ayear+. )our course features a balance of theory and practice to enhance your understanding of the EnglishLanguage, 'hile exa!ining in depth the principles of effective teaching and the practical skills required for

    teaching English to adult learners.

    As part of your course you should expect /01 contact hours 'ith fello' candidates and course tutors andten hours of teaching adults. #our of these lessons are supervised and assessed by a course tutor and one isexternally assessed. In addition you have ten hours" directed observation of lessons, 'ith five of these beinglive lessons taught by experienced teachers. )ou spend around 211 hours on reading, research andassign!ent 'riting.

    There are three co!ponents of assess!ent

    /. 3ourse'ork There are seven course'ork assign!ents. $ix of these are internally assessed4 the seventh isexternally assessed. In addition there is overall external !oderation of your course'ork by3a!bridge E$%L.

    0. Extended assign!entThe extended assign!ent is a case study of a learner. It is supervised by the centre and externally!arked.

    2. -ritten exa!inationThe 'ritten exa!ination is externally set and !arked.

    To be a'arded the Diplo!a, you !ust pass all three co!ponents. There are t'o grades 5 ass andDistinction.

    Who recognises DELTA?DELTA is accepted throughout the 'orld by organisations 'hich e!ploy English Language teachers. The3a!bridge DELTA has been accredited by the 6ualifications and 3urriculu! Authority *63A+ as aDiplo!a in Teaching E$%L at level 7 on the 8ational 6ualifications #ra!e'ork. DELTA is also integratedinto so!e 9A progra!!es. 3a!bridge E$%L also 'orks 'ith international ELT organisations to ensurethe acceptance of DELTA globally.

    3entres !ay still accept you if you do not strictly !eet all of these require!ents but can de!onstrate thatyou 'ould be likely to co!plete the course successfully. This is entirely at your centre"s discretion.

    DELTA courses are designed by individual centres, based on specifications produced by 3a!bridge E$%L.
