WHAT IS THE DMI?The DMI is an independent center for entertainment industry studies at Delta State University, one of eight state-supported institutions of higher learning in Mississippi. The focus of the DMI is to provide our students with a broad and thorough education in the technological, business, and creative areas of the entertainment industry. The DMI, housed under the College of Arts & Sciences, offers a comprehensive undergraduate experience leading to a Bachelor of Science degree in Entertainment Industry Studies. Academic minors in Audio Engineering Technology and Entertainment Industry Entrepreneurship are also offered.

WHAT WILL I STUDY? DMI students will study recording theory and techniques, touring and concert promotion, and audio engineering as well as songwriting and entertainment entrepreneurship. The College of Business at Delta State will contribute studies in standard business practices, such as accounting, management, and marketing.

WHAT MAKES THE DMI UNIQUE? The DMI Entertainment Industry Studies program features two areas of concentration —audio engineering technology and entertainment industry entrepreneurship. In our state-of-the-art studios and Mobile Music Lab, students will learn the art and science of audio engineering by recording, editing, and mixing projects under the instruction of experienced entertainment industry professionals. The DMI will also provide opportunities for entertainment business field experiences at local and regional festivals throughout the Mississippi Delta, the home of inspiring Gospel, blues, and jazz performances. Delta State University also holds the designation of being an official educational affiliate of the GRAMMY Museum.

With a multiple set of entrepreneurial and technical skills, our alumni will be well prepared for the technical, business, and creative issues that confront the practicing entertainment industry professional today and in the future.
