great opportunities to experience the sensation firsthand.

Tryst is located at the inter-section of Atlantic and Swinton, on the westernmost block of what locals call “the Ave.” Along withinnovative food and an extensive wine list, they feature a diverse and ever-changing selection of craft beer. Just this past month, Tryst partnered with Boca’s own Funky Buddha brewery for their first ever “Funky Buddha Beer Blowout”. Offerings included the Maple Bacon Coffee Porter, de-scribed as “Evoking a complete diner style breakfast in a glass,” and the very popular Hop Gun IPA. Bar manager Gianni Straub feels the event was a major success, and expects to host more beer fests in the near future.

Thirsty pedestrians heading to the beach along Atlantic Ave will be happy to learn that Delray’s craft beer craze has spread to many fine establishments. Park Tavern is a bustling local hang-out specializing in small batch and artisan beers. Mellow Mush-room has nearly 100 beers on tap, and an even greater selection by the bottle. For classic British brews and eats, the Blue Anchor always fits the bill. Over the Inter-coastal bridge, the Wine Wave Liquor Store stocks a variety of craft beers; they even feature

Dogfish Head, Funky Buddha, Fat Tire, Swamp Ape. If the names adorning the taps behind the bar at Tryst Gastropub are any indi-cation, Craft-Brewers are a creative bunch. Indeed, just as wine connoisseurs seem to have their own vocabulary, a nascent language has developed around craft-beer culture.

This unique terminology (dry hopping, mouthfeel, IBUs) is nec-essary to describe the sheer variety of flavors and brewing techniques. With options ranging from light and refreshing Hefe-weisens to nourishing Porters, there is a fit for any taste, and America is taking notice. The craft section of the beer market has tripled since 2006, and there are now more than 2400 craft or microbreweries in operation nationwide. A quick jaunt around Downtown Delray offers several

Bartender Sp tlight

Name: Tanja Jevec Bar: Off the AveHometown: Nuremberg, GermanyAge: 38Specialty: Chocolate Espresso Martini

Passport: So, what’s so exciting about the Chocolate Espresso Martini?Tanja: “It’s something that if I were to go out after dinner, I would enjoy having. It’s something people come in here and specifically order from me.”

Passport: Which liquors go well? How do you know?Tanja “It’s a matter of the years of experience and the process of seeing what goes well and what doesn’t. You get to create with liquors.”

Passport: Tell us about your 17 years at Off the Ave?Tanja: “My bartending started in D.C., and I started from working college pool halls and went on to 4-star restaurants. After leaving Vic and Angelo’s, I decided to switch to Off the Ave because it’s more of my kind of place. It’s a place where you learn your cus-tomers and are on a first name basis with them. You really get a sense of who they are.”

Passport: When you’re not here, what are you up to? Tanja: “I like to enjoy all of the aspects that Delray and the com-munity offer, whether it’s going to places like the museum, going to the beach, fishing, going out to eat. I like enjoying life and all that it has to offer.”

Passport: What does working at Off the Ave mean to you, con-sidering how long you’ve worked here?Tanja: “Coming to work is not just a job, it’s part of my life. I enjoy coming to work and seeing where it’s going to grow, and living out its full potential. “

Passport: What’s your definition of being a real bartender?Tanja: “A bartender is diplomatic, good discipline, a good lis-tener, is someone who can make you feel at home in just a few short minutes that you share, all the while serving you a delicious cocktail. At the end of the day, this is a bar!!!

Local duo, Brian Kelly and Sean Koski, are the owners of the high-energy entertainment and event planning company that’s taking Delray Beach by surprise! Ticket 2 is quickly creating a stamp in the market.

Kelly, a New York native, and Koski, a SoFla-rooted individual, combine their talent to shine in the enter-tainment arena. The young pair has been in operation just shy of two

years, and is collectively demon-strating excellence from their decade of work experience. As dedicated contributors to the Delray Beach community, Ticket 2 works closely with the Downtown Development Authority (DDA), in assisting to participate in eco-nomic boost. The DDA, well known for assembling “Dinner on the Ave,”also hosted the 2nd Annual “I Do!” in Delray. Ticket 2 brought the event to life in April.

The one-stop-shop for all bridal inquiry and needs was a success. Next, Kelly and Koski are producing events for the Cheer Conquer Tour on June 29. Consider this an invitation to all young cheerleaders .

to practice their craft, compete and enjoy the refined skills necessary for future cheer competitions. No matter how intimate or vast your event may be, Kelly and Koski suggest a checklist:

1. Identify what type of event you are planning.2. Figure out the (client's) budget.3. Create a timeline.4. Make goals.5. Figure out the marketing demographic.6. Determine guest list.7. Promote the event.8. Create a staff that will help execute the event.9. Have all matters of the event figured out TEN days prior to the event.10. Stick to the budget!

Top 10 checklist for Planning an Event:

As with planning any event, things can quickly become complicated and time consuming. Ticket 2 is a fantastic source for all event plan-ning needs. Additionally, Ticket 2 is a resource for elemental incre-

ments in making that one event spectacular. Kelly and Koski thrive on the entertainment business, because they enjoy contributingtheir talents to make occasions memorable.

Delray Beach Passport: What’s your favorite aspect of being event planners?

Ticket 2: Our favorite aspect of being event planners is creating an event from start to finish, and watching everything unfold. Also we love being able to help transform our client’s ideas into some-thing fantastic. Meeting, listening to their ideas for the event, creating a timeline and watching their reaction when the event unfolds just as they wanted it.

DBP: What is it about Delray’s energy that draws people for events?

T2: There’s a lot of energy in Delray Beach. It has a lot to offer, from its amazing restaurants and shops, to hotels. You have an array of choices to have an event. Delray is nominated as the most fun small town due to all of these elements. We think with Delray being a town by the sea, it brings in ever-changing energy. Events are a great way for neighbors in a community to join one another and encourage business growth.

DBP: What’s the best and most challenging part about being business partners?

T2: Best [equals] getting to work with your best friend. Challenging [equals] different ideas on how to execute the same thought but meeting in the middle.

Is the artistic world calling your name? Are you looking to develop your creative potential? Whether you’re a South Florida native, a tourist, or a student spending your freest years experiencing the lifestyle, there’s a lot to learn beyond the Miami art scene and Art Basel. The Art House of Delray is one of the newest non-profit developments in Delray Beach, and is quickly becoming the place to be for local and global artists alike. Located in the center of Delray, site of the original Delray Art Center, its contemporary reinvention has transformed a once blank canvas into a space worthy of color and artistic release. The Art House of Delray offers an enlightening experience to all who

28

are open to embrace the sense of artistic community it has to offer. Learn to expand your creativity by enrolling in art classes that range from figurative drawing, sketching & dry media to painting & mixed media. Sign up for a Creative Inspiration workshop to channel your inner artist and discover your natural potential.

For all emerging and mid-career artists, the Art House also offers affordable studio rentals and exhibition opportunities through a juried process. South Florida is a welcoming place for visitors, too. For all those passing through who are looking for a cultural outlet, The Art House of Delray is a refreshing take to a Friday night with rotating exhibits every six weeks. See the unique assortment of work, such as those of visual media students from all over the South Florida area, to the work of seasoned artists, like Virginia Fifield who was featured in their exhibit titled “Sustain,” with the purpose of generating buzz about the environment and the natural world. Get out of your comfort zone! The Art House is an outlet for all

to embrace the unknown, and experience a world that’s typically unbeknownst to most. Learn more about upcoming exhibitions by visiting www.arthousedelray.com, or pay a visit to 255 E. 6th Ave.
