Rochus; 2012 d. Hewitt) and the 11th title of his career, all in ATP World Tour 250s. It is his first final of the season. If he wins, it would be his first title since 2015 in Atlanta (d. Baghdatis). With his SF win Saturday over Fratangelo, Isner is expected to be back in the Top 20. Matthew Ebden (AUS) was ranked No. 249 coming into Newport and is playing in his first tour- level final. He is the lowest-ranked Newport finalist since No. 305 P. Amritraj in 2008, and the lowest-ranked ATP finalist since No. 866 Sluiter in 2009 s-Hertogenbosch. With a win today, he is expected to return to the Top 150 for the first time since June 2016. Isner has yet to face a break point or drop a set in three matches. He also has won all three matches without playing a tiebreak set. It is the first time he has reached an ATP World Tour final without playing a tiebreak set. Ebden had to play his way through qualifying, so he has now played 6 matches in 7 days (15 sets) and has spent more than 9 hours in match play on Newport grass this year. Isner has played 3 matches in 4 days (6 sets) and has spent less than three and half hours on court. The two finalists have met twice before, with Isner winning both. Their last matchup was in the 2nd Round at 2015 Wimbledon, where Isner won in straight sets. He also won in straight sets in their 2012 4th Round meeting at Indian Wells. Isner went on to reach the finals and lose to Federer in straight sets (6-7(7) 6-3). In their prior meetings, Ebden has a combined 5 break points against Isners serve, winning 3 of them, but all in the same game (second set Wimbledon). This is Isners 23rd appearance in an ATP World Tour final, with his record currently sitting at 10-12. NEWPORT NEWBIES IN SINGLES SEMIFINALS AND DOUBLES FINALS Two of today’s singles semifinalists, Bjorn Fratangelo (USA) and Peter Gojowczyk (GER) are

making their debuts at Newport this year. Meanwhile, both doubles finals teams are playing Newport for the first time, at least in these configurations. The top-seeded team of Aisam-Ul-Haq Qureshi (PAK)/Rajeev Ram (USA) has not played together in any tournament before Newport, though both players are accomplished doubles players with other partners.

Following the Hall of Fame induction ceremony, which kicks off at noon, Gojowczyk will face Matthew Ebden (AUS), who was a quarterfinalist here in 2011. Ebden is playing in his first tour-level semifinal, and is the lowest ranked ATP semifinalist since No. 837 Opelka reached the SF last year in Atlanta. Gojowczyk toppled second seed and 2015 champion Ivo Karlovic (CRO) in a third set tiebreaker, en route to his second ATP semifinal (2014 Doha).

Next, but not before 4:00 p.m., Fratangelo takes on top seed John Isner (USA), who won the title here in 2011 (d. Rochus) and 2012 (d. Hewitt) and has one other semifinal appearance (2013 l. Hewitt). Isner is seeking his first final of the season. He has yet to face a break point in this year’s tournament. By contrast, Fratangelo is playing in his first tour-level semifinal, and has faced 32 break points (saving 21 of them). He has the tournament’s best return games won percentage among the remaining players (30%), but that will be tested against Isner, who leads the tournament in first serve points won percentage (89%).

Isner is known for playing tiebreak sets. Coming into this year’s tournament, Isner had played 20 matches at Newport, and only two of them did not involve at least one tiebreak set (the SF loss to Hewitt in 2013, and a 2nd Round win over Krajicek in 2014). This year, Isner has won both of his matches in straight sets (d. Groth 6-2 6-4; d. Novikov 6-3 6-2), and has yet to play a tiebreak set.

Fratangelo may need to overcome some fatigue in his semifinal. All three of his matches have gone the distance, spending 6h15m on court so far. Isner has played one fewer match, and spent just 2h14m on court.

The doubles final will follow the singles semifinals. Although they previously have not played together as a team, Qureshi/Ram are experienced doubles participants at Newport. Qureshi won the Newport doubles championship in 2015 (w/Marray d. Monroe/M. Pavic) and was a finalist with Bopanna in 2008 (l. Fish/Isner). Ram won the Newport doubles championship in 2009 (w/Kerr d. Kohlmann/Wassen) and reached the QF in 2011 (w/Lipsky). Ram is also the two-time singles champion here (2009 d. Querrey; 2015 d. Karlovic).

Qureshi/Ram’s SF match against Groth/Paes was a nail-biter, with Qureshi/Ram taking the second set in a tiebreak to force a 10-point tiebreak set, where the top seeds prevailed 11-9. Meanwhile, Reid/Smith have been tested in each of their three matches. In the SF, they took out fellow Aussies Bolt/Whittington in a tiebreak set 10-5. In the QF, they defeated the 2nd seed and 2012 Newport champs S.Gonzalez/Lipsky in straight sets, but both sets went to tiebreakers. In their opening round match, Cheng-Peng/Hsien-Yin took the opening set before Reid/Smith pushed the match to a final set tiebreaker that took 42 points to resolve.

Emirates ATP Doubles Rankings: Qureshi (29)/Ram (15) Newport W-L (Best Result): 3-0 (2017 Finalists)

• Tournament Note: Double-bageled Estrella Burgos/Maytin in the 1st Round and easily took out Menendez-Maceiras/Reyes-Varela in the 2nd Round (6-1 6-2), before the tough three set QF victory over Groth/Paes (4-6 7-6(6) 11-9). With other partners, Qureshi is now 10-3 in his career at Newport and 25-15 in 2017, while Ram is now 14-10 in his doubles career at Newport and 26-13 in 2017. • Qureshi won the Newport doubles championship in 2015 (w/Marray d. Monroe/M.Pavic) and was a finalist with Bopanna in 2008 (l. Fish/Isner). He also played the doubles event in 2007 (w/P. He also played the doubles event in 2003 (w/P. Amritraj), 2005 (w/Oudsema), 2006 (w/Montgomery) and 2010 (w/Rojer), losing in his initial matches. • Ram won the Newport singles title in 2009, when he played his way through qualifying to defeat Querrey in the final, and in 2015, when he defeated Karlovic in three tight sets (3rd set TB). His career singles record at Newport is 17-7. He dropped his first round singles match this year to semifinalist Ebden (6-1 6-4). After the loss, Ram suggested it may have been the last singles match of his career, choosing to focus on doubles to reduce wear and tear on his body.

NOVIKOV OUTSERVING ISNER?

23-year-old Dennis Novikov (USA) takes on compatriot [1] John Isner (USA) on the Stadium Court, and while Isner certainly has the ace advantage, it has been Novikov’s serve dominating Newport so far. In his first and second round matches, Novikov has lost only 3 points on his first serve (94%). Isner won 91% of his first serve points in his match against Groth. Novikov saved the only break point he has faced (Dancevic) and Isner has yet to face a break point.

Bjorn Fratangelo (USA) is seeking to make his first ATP-level semifinal, when he takes on [4] Pierre-Hugues Herbert (FRA). This will be only the fourth time Fratangelo has played a main draw match on grass. A win would put him within striking distance of the Top 100 in the Emirates ATP Singles Rankings. His opponent is known as one of the best doubles players in the world, having won the 2016 Wimbledon title and 2015 US Open title (both with Mahut). Herbert is coming off a first round win at Wimbledon (d. Kyrgios 6-3 6-4 Ret) before losing to Paire in straight sets.

Both doubles semifinals will be contested today, with the doubles final played on Saturday. The first match of the day will feature an all Aussie semifinal, as the unseeded team of Matt Reid/John-Patrick Smith faces the unseeded team of Alex Bolt/Andrew Whittington. REIGNING CHAMP TRIES TO EVEN THE SCORE VS. GERMAN DEBUT

Reigning champion and two-time finalist (2014-15) Ivo Karlovic (CRO) is in action on the Stadium Court against Peter Gojowczyk (GER). Although ranked more than 100 spots lower than Karlovic in the Emirates ATP Singles Rankings, the German emerged victorious in their only head-to-head main draw meeting three years ago on the hard courts in Beijing (6-4 2-6 7-5). This year is Gojowczyk’s first appearance in Newport.

With his 16 aces in yesterday’s victory over Denis Kudla (USA), Karlovic now has 355 aces in his career in Newport alone. His quarterfinal opponent Gojowczyk has 236 aces in his main draw career, at all tournaments, on all surfaces.

Tobias Kamke (GER) made the semifinals at Newport in 2011 (l. Isner 5-7 6-7(4)), and he takes on Matthew Ebden (AUS), who made the Newport quarterfinals that same year (l. Rochus 6-7(5) 3-6). Ebden won their only main draw head-to-head meeting in straight sets at the 2014 US Open.

Thursday’s first match on the Stadium Court features the doubles team of Santiago Gonzalez (MEX) and Scott Lipsky (USA), who won the Newport title in 2012 with a straight sets victory over Colin Fleming and Ross Hutchins. This year marks Gonzalez’s and Lipsky’s first return to Newport since their title, both individually and as a team. The veteran duo faces the young Australian team of Alex Bolt and Andrew Whittington, each born in 1993.

NEXT GEN ATP TRIO, TWO-TIME CHAMP RAM HEADLINE STADIUM

The remaining six first round matches are on Tuesday’s schedule with a trio of #NextGenATP stars

and two-time singles champion Rajeev Ram on Stadium.

First up is 19-year-old American wild card Michael Mmoh against 20-year-old Aussie Akira Santillan, who is coming off his first career ATP Challenger Tour title in Winnetka on Sunday. Both players are ranked a career-high this week with Mmoh at No. 173 and Santillan at No. 171. Both are also attempting to earn their first career ATP World Tour win. Mmoh is 0-6 and Santillan is 0-4.

In the next match on, No. 6 seed Lukas Lacko of Slovakia and 19-year-old Reilly Opelka meet for the first time. When Opelka played qualifying last year in Newport, he was No. 833 in the Emirates ATP Rankings. The 2015 Wimbledon junior champion returns at No. 126 after earning his first three main draw wins en route to the Atlanta semi-finals last August (l. to Isner).

In the final singles match, Ram meets Aussie qualifier Matthew Edbden, who has climbed nearly 450 ranking spots since January. Ram won the Newport title in 2009 as the World No. 181 and 2015 as the World No. 161. He returns this week at No. 235. 10 THINGS TO WATCH IN NEWPORT 1) Size Matters: The three tallest players on the ATP World Tour lead the field at the Dell

Technologies Hall of Fame Open, which serves as the final grass-court tournament of the 2017 season. Six-foot-11 Ivo Karlovic is the defending Newport champion, 6-foot-11 Reilly Opelka is making his main draw tournament debut and 6-foot-10 John Isner won the title in 2011 and 2012.

2) Three Straight Finals: Karlovic saved three championship points to beat Gilles Muller in three tiebreak sets and win the 2016 Newport title. The 38-year-old Croat finished runner-up to Lleyton Hewitt in 2014 and Rajeev Ram in 2015, losing both of those finals in a third-set tiebreak.

3) Isner Seeded No. 1: Isner is making his eighth appearance in Newport and fifth as the top seed. He won the title in 2011 and 2012, then fell in the 2014 quarter-finals and 2015 first round, as the No. 1 seed. Isner made his ATP World Tour debut here 10 years ago, losing to Dick Norman.

4) Opelka on the Rise: When Opelka played qualifying last year in Newport, he was No. 833 in the Emirates ATP Rankings. The 2015 Wimbledon junior champion returns inside the Top 150 after earning his first three main draw wins en route to the Atlanta semi-finals last August (l. to Isner).

5) First Time for Everything: Opelka is one of nine players seeking his first grass-court win -- not including the four men who qualify on Monday. NCAA champion Thai-Son Kwiatkowski will make his ATP debut as a wild card. No. 7 seed Tennys Sandgren (0-3), Mitchell Krueger (0-1) and #NextGenATP players Akira Santillan (0-4) and Michael Mmoh (0-6) seek their first ATP win on any surface. Bidding for their first grass-court win are Opelka (0-0 on grass), Bjorn Fratangelo (0-1 on grass), Adrian Menendez-Maceiras (0-2 on grass) and Konstantin Kravchuk (0-3 on grass).

6) First-Round Byes: Isner, Karlovic, No. 3 seed Adrian Mannarino and No. 4 seed Pierre-Hugues Herbert receive byes. Mannarino is coming off a fourth-round run at Wimbledon. Herbert will be making his Newport debut. His regular doubles partner, Nicolas Mahut, won the title here in 2013.

7) Raj Returns: Isner isn’t the only two-time champion in the field. Ram won the Newport title in 2009 as the World No. 181 and 2015 as the World No. 161. He returns this week outside of the Top 200.

8) #NextGenATP in Newport: Five #NextGenATP players are in Newport, including Opelka, Santillan and Mmoh. They are joined by American teens Taylor Fritz and Stefan Kozlov. Fritz qualified at Wimbledon before falling to Isner in the first round. Kozlov debuted at 2013 Newport as a 15-year-old and remains the youngest participant in an ATP match since Noam Behr, 14, at 1990 Tel Aviv.

9) By the Dozen: Twelve of the 24 men in the field before the conclusion of qualifying are American, including Denis Kudla, who defeated Grigor Dimitrov to reach the 2011 Newport quarter-finals.

10) First-Time Team: Ram and Aisam-Ul-Haq Qureshi will debut as a doubles team. Ram, the 2009 Newport doubles champion, and Qureshi, the 2015 champion, have combined for five titles in 2017.
