•Planned Maintenance System (PMS) is a comprehensive, computerised

maintenance management and inventory control system, which organises all

information pertaining to vessel equipment and maintenance in the fleet. This

information can then be used for reference and to generate maintenance schedules,

produce reports regarding maintenance history, survey schedules and assist with all

other activities of shipboard maintenance and inventory control. PMS combines the

benefits of preventive and corrective maintenance with instant, on line access to the

historical maintenance and inventory data.PMS is a comprehensive and very user

friendly, intuitive information management system, which can be tailored to suit a

company’s specific needs.

•PMS addresses the main areas of technical management, Maintenance

Management , Inventory Management , Budget Management .

2.Scope of the system

The PMS is targeted at increasing efficiency and safety of fleet operation while at the same

time reducing costs. SHIPMASTER PMS will allow you to organise maintenance and

inventory routines, simplify the maintenance management and integrate all shipboard

machinery, inventory and maintenance requirements.

The system consists of the following modules :

1. Equipment Management Module.

2. Spare Parts Management Module,

3. Maintenance Management Module,

4. Budget Module

The maintenance management function comprises of planning and scheduling maintenance

activities, assigning tasks to various groups, and the feed back of the work done including

equipment status remarks and resource utilisation. The integrated inventory control helps

to keep track of the stock in hand and historical information of usage. The budget control

module is linked to the inventory and the maintenance module and helps in monitoring the

actual expenses.

4. Some of the salient features of the system.

Scheduled and Preventive tasks - The maintenance tasks can be easily organised into routine repeating tasks or one time preventive tasks. The overdue tasks are visually marked. This makes work and resource scheduling very easy. Risk Cover Indication-PMS allows the user to designate any work with possible Risk involved and steps taken to reduce the risk. This gives a very good indication of possible risk cover in a specified period and whether the company has allocated sufficient resources for the same. Machinery Reliability Indication - The system dynamically indicates MTBR – the mean time between reports a very positive indicator of machinery performance and condition. The ‘trouble spots’ can be easily identified. Failure Analysis -The system allows user to record various equipment failure incidents, possible reasons for such failure and suggestions for improvement.

Planned

Maintenance

System

Vessel Survey Status -The system will indicate the current status of class related tasks. Interface to ISM Checklists The system can be customised to interface with the existing quality system checklists and documents. Dynamic Inventory Updates All inventory transactions, such as consumption of parts for scheduled tasks will automatically update the stock positions. This rationalises the material supply and helps in planning and co-ordinating procurement. Electronic Data Transfer -The system will facilitate data updates from remote sites Data Replication to the central office and vice versa. This data can be transferred electronically or by floppies. All data related to equipment at one site can be replicated to the central office and branch offices.

This module will allow the user to view details of various machinery installed on board, to add new entries, and modify registered entries.

SHIP MANAGEMENT

6. Spare Parts Management Module This module is used to facilitate organisation of information of spare parts associated with the shipboard machinery. All information about the spare parts is immediately accessible such as current stock, unit price, minimum and maximum stock levels on board.

7. Planned Maintenance Module

The planned maintenance management module is used to create and reference work orders and organise work schedules. This module provides quick access to maintenance histories, work instructions etc. When the jobs are set up work lists can be generated to indicate scheduled jobs within the specified periods. The jobs may also be rescheduled if required.

SHIP MANAGEMENT

8. Preventive maintenance management Module is used to create and reference work orders for all the tasks that usually require extra resources, in terms of material or logistic assistance, than normally available on board. These will help the technical office to prepare for dry-dock or co-ordinate the riding squads.
