Each Success Story Presents

• Situation / Challenge • What is the Business Problem

• An illustration • A map fits well here! It is a Geospatial newsletter of course.

• What ConocoPhillips Did.• The Story! • Highlight how GIS is key to the solution.

• Outcome & Value• Often the solution translates directly to tangible value – real $$$$. • Value can also be intangible – lower risk, efficiency gain, cost avoidance…

Geospatial Inventory of OpenWorks – (GIO)

Situation / Challenge• How can I spatially see what wells and seismic I have access to in all my different

OpenWorks projects, in different regions?• How can Data Managers see “all” the well and seismic available spatially?• For large enterprises, it is often difficult to encompass a large systematic view of

spatial data stored in OpenWorks and what a user can access.

Geospatial Inventory of OpenWorks – (GIO)

• Wells, 2D and 3D seismicOSA

What ConocoPhillips Did

Value and OutcomeData Managers now have a clear, spatial picture of what data is managed in OW.• What wells exist – and what project the data resides.• Is there 3D seismic in this area – and if yes, which project is it loaded into.End User• Easy spatial view of data they can access in OW.

Situation / Challenge• Need a set of proprietary maps in a disconnected environment (No WiFi or

cellular. “I don’t want to rely on paper!”• Need to know where I am, the team and where we are driving.• Need to be able to interact with the map to understand terrain and access areas.• Need to be able to capture notes and pictures.

What ConocoPhillips did

• The Landman had readily available ArcMap projects, so we published to ArcGIS online for ConocoPhillips.

• Built the access groups• Training / Field user manual

Value and Outcome

• Lessons learned• Some devices will cease to work- roll with it. • Need for intimate understanding of ArcGIS Online-

YOU(the professional) will learn a lot by setting up & deploying.

• Layer transparency can differ on desktop browser, IOS, and android devices.

• Sync issues- you will have to extract data manually via the runtime geodatabase.

• Lots of Success!• No confusion on where competitor assets are located.• View position against leases/stipulation layers/

topography – on the fly.• Ability to be offline and maintain most functionality.• Ability to collect location, condition and surface image.

Situation / Challenge• The Business Challenge so common, the solution has been given a name:

“Common Operating Picture”.• Specific Challenges faced by the business were:

• Visualize geographic data• Resident Information Data Management• Field Mobility• Real-Time Vehicle Tracking• Detect Impacted Structures• Monitor Incident Responders and Activities• Collaborate

Emergency Response – A common set of problems

What They Did• Proof of concept – Does the capabilities of Geospatial Environment to meet the requirements?

• Visualize geographic data Used ArcGIS Online to register and display the geographical datasets

• Field Mobility Tested Survey123, and Field Data Collector• Real-Time Vehicle Tracking Installed GeoEvent processor. Configured to pick up the

vendor positional feed • Detect Impacted Structures Simulated test scenarios• Monitor Incident Responders and Activities ArcGIS Online provided situational awareness• Collaborate ArcGIS allowed groups so regulators (external user IDS) as

well as internals could collect and collaborate in one system

Outcome and Value• The proof of concept showed requirements could be “Out of the Box”• Configuration/development would focus on specific reports and formats for the

information contained in the system.

Summary

• Developing a Strategy and Roadmap is key to successful delivery of the Geospatial Environment.

• Quantitative and Qualitive input from those providing the GIS services, and those exploiting and consuming the services

• Concise recommendation for execution, that can be evaluated in the changing environment

• A Common GIS Platform• Provides consistent support• Provides end users to successfully execute their projects

• Socialize the success• Share the business stories• People consume the information differently - use Conferences, User Groups, News Letters, Emails …
