1 GENERAL OVERVIEW OF THE B2B, BROKERAGE AND

FUNDING MATCHMAKING ACTIVITIES/EVENTS

The purpose of the hereafter reported Task 5.1 (Organization of brokerage, B2B and funding matchmaking activities) was to organize and/or enable discretional matchmaking activities at a brokerage, B2B and funding level in the defined ACTTiVAte’s countries so as to help ACTTiVAte’s funded SMEs increase their interface and matching opportunities with established companies, industry leaders, potential customers and partners and funding providers that operate within the cluster/regional ecosystems involved.

The present document outlines the deployment of the activities and events that have been carried out and/or facilitated as well as the resulting outcomes of such activities. The reported deployment of activities within Task 5.1 covers the period from May 2018 to March 2019, including a description of planned relevant activities and events until May 2019.

Over this reporting period, the cluster partners have organized, implemented and/or promoted, directly or indirectly, a number of B2B and brokerage activities and events to help their portfolio projects to take advantage of B2B and brokerage opportunities, and gain ground in their paths to bring their technology/product to a successful cross-sectoral transfer and/or commercialization process.

Beyond this specific reported events and activities, ACTTiVAte funded SMEs also participated in many different other events, and received direct or indirect assistance by cluster partners for this purpose. In addition, an assignment of an additional budget of 2.000 euros per SME to cover travel expenses was granted to those interested SMEs to cover attendance expenses to selected B2B/brokerage events. To be eligible to apply for this specific aid, interested SMEs were to prepare and submit to their assigned Project Officer a one-page proposal (maximum length), including a description the selected event, including date and location; a description of the objectives to be accomplished by participating in the proposed event, and a description of the type of exposure to be reached/expected contacts to be made by the attendant representing the SME in the event. In addition, each beneficiary selected SME is to submit a Proof of Execution to the Project Officer concerned. This special attendance aid is still applicable to forthcoming B2B/brokerage events in April and May 2019, and particularly to the final ACTTiVAte Conference to be held in May 2019 in Spain.

A general overview of the B2B, brokerage and funding matchmaking activities/events in which the ACTTiVAte funded SMEs have participated over the period May 2018-March 2019 is summarized in the table below:

ORGANIZED/PROMOTED BY ACTTIVATE CLUSTER

PARTNERS

2.1 EVENT: CO-LOCATED ACTIVITY IN THE HEALTH VALLEY EVENT -

NIJMEGEN, NL, MARCH 2018

Organizer/Promoter: OOST

The OOST’ general approach to the implementation of B2B, brokerage and funding matchmaking activities for the benefit of ACTTiVAte funded SMEs have consisted in attaching (co-location) such activities to other larger events and activities. This permitted to attract a large and broader public to the different ACTTiVATe innovations. Most of the activities were done in cooperation with Dutch ACTTiVAte partners WUR & VEG. In addition, OOST put effort in the preparation of the SMEs to find finance and relevant networks.

2.1.1 OVERVIEW OF THE EVENT

ACTTiVAte cluster partner OOST organized a booth at the Health Valley Event in Nijmegen in March 2018. This event hosts over 1.000 participants from the health industry and health care institutes, including the participation of investors too.

All companies established multiple new contacts, including possible customers, cooperation partners, research institutes and/or large corporates like IBM, who also was an exhibitor at this conference.

The promoting ACTTiVAte partners in the event also attended the KATANA (Innosup Project) final presentation. As a result, new contacts were made with partners from this Innosup project to build future EU innovation consortia, and they also got to learn SMEs from the KATANA project.

2.2.2 ADDITIONAL NOTES ABOUT SOME OF THE PARTICIPATING COMPANIES OR

(OTHER) PORTFOLIO COMPANIES

OOST reports that it has provided assistance to one ACTTiVAte company in preparing a one-to-one meeting with RABObank to explore the chance of obtaining their subordinated innovation loan. To get the best business proposal, the project’s business canvas and business plan resources were particularly fine-tuned through intensive sessions including written feedback. Finally, the company successfully managed to get this innovation loan in December 2018.

The ACTTiVAte supported company VKON received assistance from its assigned ACTTiVATe mentor to apply for the SME instrument, and they got enough points above threshold. However, the EU budget was not large enough to grant them.

In relation to matching outcomes at the B2B level, OOST also reports that a joint venture has been developed between VKON and another company to jointly bring the innovation to market. The resulting agreement is a joint venture between the above mentioned VKON company, a company from the application sector (agriculture / animal farming), and an ICT / sensor specialized

company, from which the technology was transferred (FACTIC BV). The new joint venture is called Animeasure BV. The new JV company managed to establish a testing project for their innovative product, and they got additional regional funding after the ACTTiVAte project to conduct this user-test at a large farm. Wageningen University researchers are involved in the testing.

In the same period, another company from The Netherlands – ANOXIA - managed to establish first sales of one of their product lines, e.g. with an order from one of the largest pig slaughter organizations in Holland: they request all their organic farm suppliers to use the product to enhance the production system. In addition, the feasibility of new product lines is currently under review.

VEG also reports active B2B and brokerage activity in the Agri Food Tech 2018 event by the VKON Company including contacts with large corporates (to implement their ICT data instrument in the VKON innovation), SMEs & universities and applied universities to conduct additional research.

DIMAEN. VEG reports an intense B2B match-making activity by FlowSelect, a spin-out from Dimaen BV, at the Agri Food Tech 2018 event, where the company managed to make five important B2B contacts described below:

• Contact with an interesting Greek company which produces super foods and have problems with phosphate excess.

• Contact with a Dutch equipment company that can offer specialized mechanical solutions to FlowSelect.

• Contact with one of the innovation brokers of TKI Agro-Food – the triple helix organization at Dutch national level; this offers a good market contact to get in connection with companies that can become customers.

• Business contact to explore possibilities for phosphate regeneration in vertical city farming.

• Contact with a European Patent Attorney in relation to filing a patent.

BUBBLEFOOT (Fine Bubble Technology- Poland). ACTTiVAte cluster partner Technology Partners (TP), from Poland, provided assistance to the company to attend the co-located ACTTiVAte event in Agri Food Tech 2018. The company reports a very intensive B2B, brokerage and networking activity during its participation in the event which lead to in total 18 new contact, varying from various companies (both Dutch and foreign like Greece and Greece), research organizations and labs, industrial networks, investors, a patent attorney, a crowdfunding platform and Wageningen agro-food startup incubator StartLife.

The company reports that 8 out of these 18 contacts have at least some potential for future co-operation, and it gives credit to the visit a as a very fruitful exposure.

NOLDUS INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY BV (PROJECT DLH). OOST reports that the innovation developed by Noldus Information Technology BV (Project DLH), which developed an ICT innovation for the Health sector, was promoted at a large, specialized clinic (St. Maartenskliniek ) for revalidation in the Netherlands. During three weeks, their product was shown and tested at the entrance hall of this clinic. See https://www.maartenskliniek.nl/nieuws/ritje-maken-in-het-drivelab. The test was performed with regional applied university HAN. This company is also reported to have attended the Dutch e-Health Week 2019, Nijmegen Netherlands, January 2019, with OOST being involved in pre-test before the event.

Besides the remarkable support from the PTS Foundation, IPT Safety attracted the interest from the EIT Health manager as well as from other companies and investors attending the event such as Destina Genomics, Genyo, RentA4, Invercaria and IBS Granada

Hence, the outcome of the trip turned out to be quite positive, confirming the real interest in the technology presented and potentially opening new future lines.

3 FORTHCOMING B2B/BROKERAGE EVENTS PROMOTED/PROPOSED BY THE CLUSTER PARTNERS

Matchmaking Business to Business (B2B) meetings are playing a crucial role in the ACTTiVAte project. They are not only a part of professional business services but also playing a significant role in the project´s sustainability. A description of series of forthcoming specific events reported by the consortium as a whole and cluster partners follows.

Within these prospects, a special remark is worth mentioning to the ACTTiVAte Final Conference to be held next May in Spain. The event is conceived as a culmination of three year´s hard work for the ACTTiVAte funded project, and it will be a unique opportunity for cross-sectoral cooperation and direct corporate engagement. The ACTTiVAte Final Conference is a joint initiative of the ACTTiVAte consortium addressed to 15 high potential ACTTiVAte SMEs, which are to be selected out of the top-50 funded SMEs.
