In the tiny village of Sawdon, The Anvil Inn, a 250 year old former forge is the perfect place to sample North Yorkshire’s fi nest beers and most delicious food. Modern European cuisine using top quality Yorkshire produce, local cask ales and excellent wines in a relaxed

and stylish setting. Our menus brim with originality, we like to start a trend rather than follow one. Lunch and dinner served Wednesday to Sunday, closed Monday and Tuesday. Booking essential.

The Castlegate Taberna in Pickering, Ryedale, is a real hidden gem. It is a cosy Spanish restaurant (not far from the castle), the fi rst in Ryedale ever to serve Tapas, which is a relaxed way to enjoy traditional and fl avoursome regional Spanish dishes.

Amparo and Ian take pride in sourcing the Spanish wines, beers and liquors,

from the ordinary to the un-ordinary that are available at the Taberna.

If you haven’t experienced yet, this healthy and sociable way of eating, you really must try it, but please book before you go as it is small but full of charm and character.

FOODGLORIOUS FOODThe North York Moors National Park is home to some of the most breathtaking landscape in the country. Its heather clad moorland, lush green dales and stunning coastline provide the ingredients for some mouthwatering food and drink available from farm gates, delicatessens and a wealthof homely pubs and cafes.

Stroll through the North York Moors and you’ll be accompanied by a buzz of bees. With the largest expanse of heather moorland in England, there’s no shortage of delicious heather honey in the National Park - perfect for drizzling on porridge or just spooning direct from the jar.

Buying from local butchers, farmers markets or from the farm gate not only means you know exactly where the meat has come from but you’ll also be helping to support local farmers too.

Sample a pint of refreshing Endeavour Ale, just one of the many real ales brewed in the North York Moors by Cropton Brewery. Or why not try cider from the orchards at Ampleforth Abbey or wine made on the coast at Skinningrove?

Enjoy the unique experience of staying on a vineyard inthe North of England at Ryedale Vineyards. The Bed and Breakfast, Farfi eld Farmhouse, is a Grade II listed building that has been sympathetically restored and retains many original characteristics.
