Great RecognitionHockey India introduced an amazing Rs.2.6 crore Annual Awards in 2015. Our NGO was in surprise when it was honoured
with Hockey India President’s Outstanding Achievement Award. HI president Dr. Narinder Dhruv Batra handed over the
trophy and the purse (Rs.5 lac) to founder K. Arumugam in the glittering ceremony. “This is Olympic medal for us”, said the
grateful founder.
Jaap Stockmann’s Chak De MomentWorld’s number one goalkeeper Jaap Stockmann has a huge heart for India. He ran a Chak de India project to collect sports
equipment in his country, The Netherlands. He has collected huge quantities of quality equipment, and shipped it to our
school doors with the help of Greenfields. OTHL hails his volunteerism.
OTHL’s own Property
Return GestureShri YS Negi, Principal, Government Boys Senior Secondary School, Ghittorni, honoured OTHL in a grand way for its
contribution to start and run hockey teams in schools. “This NGO is dedicated, and help improve the profile of young minds”
he said.
Andrew Robb, Australian Minister for Trade andInvestment, interacting with OTHL kids
We identify many talents. And then our
objective is to export the gifted talents
to higher institutions of coaching.
This policy took off with three of our
Delhi OTHL boys – Kishore Arya, Md.
Zaseem, Amit Gupta – getting selected
for Sports Training Centre (STC) of
National Institute of Sports, Patiala.
Under STC, these boys will get free
boarding, lodging and training for 3 or
4 years under expert coaches. So far
16 boys got selected for STCs including
Varanasi, Chhatisgarh, Mumbai, Bareily
etc.
OTHL accords top priority to quality education -- and sports in weekends. We take pride when top schools evince interest
in taking our talents for their school’s hockey team and provide free education and sport equipment. This transforms lives of
our underprivileged kids and fulfils our dream. Brothers Rahul & Rohit joined Modern School, Barakhamba Road while eight
talents from a OTHL subscribed school were absorbed into the stable of Guru Harikishen Public School, India Gate. They all
have turned to be stars of the new homes.

Transforming Lives

Two of our talented goalkeeper-kids – Deepanshu Kumar & Sivam Jha – attended Hockey India’s national level goalkeeping
coaching camp held in Delhi. This big boost helped OTHL kids to take up goalkeeping seriously.

Team Celebration
Combined boys OTHL teams participated in both Hockey India’s Vadodara and Jammu Sub-Junior National Championships
held in 2014 and 2015, respectively. We posted two wins each time. For the first time, OTHL girls of Kolkata OTHL Centre
played in the Nagaon (Assam) Sub-Jr Nationals (2016) as well. They also won a match. Granting of affiliation by Hockey
India enabled the NGO to field its team directly in the Nationals. Its a great morale booster. Kids put extra effort in the trials
to get selected for our combined OTHL’s National team.

Hockey India Has SentIts Top Coach To Advise Our Kids
We work silently. But the quality work got noticed by many. We accepted every request of hockey volunteers, media and
NRIs to visit our schools and centres. People from far and wide (England, The Netherlands, Brazil etc) visited us, motivated
us, studied our project and projected us in positive light. We appreciate their quality time spent with us. Dutch legend Floris
jan Bovelander visited our Delhi centre before making his own project for India. Bhavdeep Virdee (England) conducted a brief
clinic, and also made a donation of Rs.25k. Joris Olsthornm from Dutch & a TV crew (Brazil) are among the notable visitors.

Occasionally media took note of our activities. NDTV India &
Zee News crew did brief shows and interviewed our boys and
the mentor. Hindustan Times brought out a half page write
up. Reporters from BBC Radio and All India Radio covered
some of our training sessions. AIR also interviewed our mentor
under ‘Gem of India’ program. Hindustan Times, New Indian
Express, Deccan Chronicle, The Hindu, NDTV, Zee News, FIH
& HI websites etc covered various OTHL activities.

Delhi did not have open inter-school tournaments barring some private school initiatives. Lack of teams, esp quality and
right age ones, feeble support structure and poor communication were the hurdles. Nor did many schools do participate in
the Education Department’s routine events like Zone, Inter-Zone and School Games, benefitting a select few. Delhi OTHL
expanded the schools hockey horizon, developed 24 age group teams, created an amble environ. Private outfits stepped in
to organize new competitions. This also helped to bridge and synchronize private and government school organizers who
shunned each other for long. OTHL schools are now invited by both. Nehru-Dhyan Chand Cup, Anglo-Arabic Cup, five new
zone teams for Education Deptt are spin off benefits of five years of OTHL in Delhi.
Creating Competitive Environment
OTHL envisions creation of avenues for recreation to youngsters thro sports. It constantly strove to give them opportunity
to play and enjoy in their boyhood. Some schools meanwhile excelled and went on to win tournaments even in tough
fields. GBSSS, Begumpur, which later Govt of Delhi adopted as its hockey centre, won the Modernite Cup ( 2012) and
Nehru-Dhyan Chand Cup (2013). GBSSS, Saket clinched Nehru-Dhyan Chand up in 2014, Delhi’s highest prize money
Cairns Juniors Hockey Cup (2015) and the Delhi’s oldest event 33rd Mota Singh Memorial Cup (Dec 2015). Anglo-
Arabic School, Ajmeri Gate, defeated many strong teams before winning the DDA Cup (2013) and Prof Joe Ezekiel
Memorial Cup (2015) besides the one they hosted, the 16-team Anglo-Arabic hockey Cup (2015). GBSSS Maharauli
got the top honours in the Briendranath Ghosh Memorial Cup. These winning schools did not have hockey team or
ground 4,5 years before! This is the kind of transformation the OTHL could usher in in a short span of time.
