Linn-Mar General Parameters for School Delays, Closings
Call of 2 hour delay in the eveningA decision to cancel the
following morning would be made no later than 6:00 a.m.
Call of 2 hour delay in the morningThe decision to delay would
be made no later than 5:30 a.m.The decision to cancel would be made
no later than 7:30 a.m.
Note: If needed, parking lots can be cleared in 2.5 hours. To do
this in that compacttime frame, the District contracts with a
private service to clear lots at thesame time as the L-M staff.
Starting at 6:30 a.m., they would be done byapproximately 9:00 a.m.
Generally, though, clearing of the parking lots by L-M staff, only,
begins at midnight. The main campus lots are the first cleared.
Bus routes on a delayed schedule begin at approximately 8:45
a.m.
However, if the weather conditions become drastically unsafe,
the above parameters fortimes of delays and cancellations could
change based on the safety of children and staff.

signage at schools
We will avoid unscheduled early dismissals except in the case of
a very drastic weathercondition change.
Athletic EventsConference athletic directors work with
administration regarding the scheduled
varsityevents. Based on the same conditions and factors (listed
below) that are considered
for a delayed start or a cancellation, they determine whether a
scheduled varsityevent can be held safely. If local practices are
held for varsity teams, they arevoluntary and, again, based on the
safety of the students.
The challenge with canceling varsity athletic events is the
small window of timeavailable to reschedule the event within the
season. With school cancellation, thedays are added to the end of
the calendar.
When school is cancelled, there are no middle school activities
or athletic events orpractices.
Inclement weather conditions includesnow,ice,fog,torrential
rains.
Factors affecting decisions:day light,road surface,duration of
weather/condition,city and county road maintenance
schedule,information on weather conditions within a 100 miles
following the storm front,and local weather forecasting.
School and work site parking lot and side walk condition also
are a factor in determiningschool start time.
