From the Chairman...Your Foundation at Work in the Community

I am very proud to inform you that the clinic adjacent to the Howard Young Medical Center is being renamed in honor of Dr. Kate Newcomb, the pioneer of healthcare in the Northwoods. The “Dr. Kate Clinic” will house the Ascension Medical Group family practice, the One Heart Cardiology Suite, Ministry Koller Behavioral Health, pain management and GI services. True to Dr. Kate’s dream, it is a place where our community can receive local medical

services for a wide range of needs.

The Foundation board of directors and I are also excited about the recent announcement from Ascension Wisconsin regarding their investment to rejuvenate HYMC, which the Foundation is also helping to fund in part. You can read about the project in the President’s Perspective column on page 5 and in more depth on page 8.

PLEASE SUPPORT THE DRAGON BOAT FESTIVAL!Last summer it was my pleasure to invite you to the inaugural Minocqua Dragon Boat Festival hosted by the Foundation to raise funds that support technology and facility upgrades, such as those at HYMC. The event raised more than $260,000 including the generous matching dollars

from Ascension Wisconsin. It was such a huge success that we’ve decided to host it again in 2017. I encourage you to form a team or to come and cheer on the teams and enjoy the festival’s attractions.

BOARD MEMBER RECOGNITIONSWe wish to publicly thank our outgoing board members whose dedication of time and talent has been instrumental to the success of the Foundation. Jon Dobbs and Sherry Jacobi have served with honor and distinction for the past three years and I want them to know how much I personally appreciated their expertise and involvement. Board member Bill Pirie retired after serving the Foundation for the past 12 years. His knowledge of the Lakeland area community has been invaluable as our organization partners with our hospitals to make decisions that benefit the greatest number of our residents and visitors.

It is our pleasure to welcome incoming board members Dr. Barry Seidel and Glenn Schiffmann. Barry is a well-known surgeon in Minocqua and his insight and expertise will be greatly beneficial to our mission. Glenn is a successful business owner and represents the healthcare needs in Eagle River, which the Foundation also serves. We look forward to working with Barry and Glenn in executing our mission.

THANK YOU TO OUR DONORSWe are once again pleased to thank and acknowledge our growing list of donors who continue to be so remarkably generous with their personal treasure. Their names are listed on pages 18-23. Thank you for helping us meet the increasing needs of our not-for-profit rural hospitals. We hope these pages provide you with a sense of pride as you read about the ways healthcare philanthropy can ensure access to the highest quality of care right here where we live, work and play.

Sincerely,

Trig Solberg Board Chairman

President’s Perspective Sandy Anderson Vice President, Ministry Health Care Northern Region; President, Howard Young Medical Center and Ministry Eagle River Memorial Hospital

HONORING A SACRED TRUSTWhen I became president of Howard Young Medical Center and Ministry Eagle River Memorial Hospital in 2015, my goal was to develop a sacred trust between the hospitals and the communities we serve; a trust built upon doing our part to make certain that the high-quality healthcare you depend upon is here for you when you need it today and far into the future.

To that end, I am very excited to tell you about the Rural Residency Program we have established to ensure a greater pool of physicians to serve our area, and to update you about facility enhancements at HYMC.

WHERE WILL TOMORROW’S DOCTORS COME FROM?A Wisconsin Hospital Association report predicts a shortage of physicians to serve the state’s aging population, especially in rural areas such as ours. To attract new physicians to the Northwoods, we have created a Rural Residency Program in which medical students from the Medical College of Wisconsin- Central Wisconsin will do their residencies at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rhinelander, with clinical rotations at HYMC and MERMH. That is significant, because students who graduate from a Wisconsin medical school and residency program are 71 percent more likely to stay in Wisconsin. Even more significant is that over half the graduates from family medicine residencies practice within 100 miles of their training site. So participants in our Rural Residency Program are very likely to stay in the Northwoods, providing the best and the brightest doctors to serve our communities’ future healthcare needs.

POLISHING THE “DIAMOND” THAT IS HYMCThe Lakeland area takes great pride in the diamond they have here with the Howard Young Medical Center. You can’t go to another rural hospital and find the kind of advanced equipment available at HYMC. To bring the facility’s infrastructure up to the same level as its technology, we have implemented a strategic plan to replace some of the original 1974 portion of the facility and to renovate others to improve patient flow as well as workflow for our associates.

This multifaceted, multi-year plan begins June 1, 2017 with renovations to the outpatient rehabilitation area. We also will be working with our outside traffic pattern and parking lot in preparation for replacing some of the hospital’s existing structure next year.

Howard Young founded the Howard Young Medical Center in 1974 to provide a state-of-the-art facility for everyone who lives in and visits the Lakeland area. The upgrades we have planned are in keeping with that vision for generations to come.

INVESTING IN YOUR GOOD HEALTH Our Rural Residency Program and facility improvements are substantial investments in the future of healthcare in the Northwoods. The initiatives are being funded in part through the charitable support of the Howard Young Foundation to help achieve our shared mission of advancing healthcare in our communities.

Warmest regards,

Combine heart-pounding dragon boat races

with a cheering crowd, delicious food, a unique

marketplace, great entertainment, fun children’s

activities, a beer tent and what do you have?

The second annual Minocqua Dragon Boat Festival,

to be held at Torpy Park, Minocqua, on Saturday,

August 19, 2017. The event benefits the Howard

Young Foundation, which funds facility and

technology upgrades at Howard Medical Center

in Woodruff and Ministry Eagle River Memorial

Hospital in Eagle River.

Last year’s inaugural event featured 33 dragon

boat teams from throughout the Midwest and

raised an amazing $267,000. This year, we hope

to blow those numbers right out of the water.

Here’s how you can help.

RACE IN THE ULTIMATE TEAM SPORT!

Rally your friends, family and co-workers to form

a team of 20 paddlers and one drummer. Dragon

boating is a 2,000-year-old Chinese tradition and the

fastest-growing water sport in the world. Best

of all, anyone can do it—no experience is necessary!

Practice sessions, a steersperson/coach, and all

equipment including dragon boats, life vests, and

paddles are provided. Cost is $900 per team (that’s

only $43 per person for a team of 21) or $600 for

competitive dragon boat club teams.

Collect team pledges by August 19, 2017, to offset the cost of registration.

The Paddler’s Pledge Program is an integral part

of the festival’s fundraising efforts and can reduce

your team’s registration fee.

• Team pledges of $1,500-$2,999 qualify for a 50

percent refund of your team’s registration fee

• Team pledges of $3,000 or more qualify for a

full refund of your team’s registration fee

Last year, every team graciously chose to support

local healthcare by donating their pledges to the

Howard Young Foundation instead of accepting

a refund.

EXCITING NEWS!

Following nearly a year of due diligence and thoughtful analysis, Howard Young Medical Center, part of Ascension Wisconsin, has announced plans for new construction and renovation. The multi-million dollar undertaking is a reflection of Ascension’s commitment to keeping care local and growing Howard Young Medical Center to meet the evolving needs of the patients and communities we serve.

BUILDING UPON THE LEGACY, CONTINUING THE TRADITION

The Lakeland area has benefitted from hospital care since the mid 1950s when Lakeland Memorial Hospital was established by the community. An extremely generous philanthropic gift from Howard Young enabled growth in the mid 1970s and now Ascension’s investment in partnership with the Howard Young Foundation ensures sustainability of essential healthcare services for future generations.

For more than 70 years HYMC, and before it Lakeland Memorial Hospital, has provided invaluable services to those who live, work and play in the area. The hospital also offers quality jobs for area residents—

our dedicated physicians, associates and volunteers.

A recent needs assessment directed the organization to focus on the following:

• Inpatient medical-surgical care

• Inpatient dialysis

• Women’s health and childbirth center

• Emergency and trauma care

• Diagnostic and treatment areas

• Infrastructure improvements

The plans include a combination of new construction for hospital and ambulatory care services as well as extensive renovations to other existing space, such as the emergency department and outpatient rehabilitation services.

The initial phase of the project begins in June with preconstruction work to include expansion of the patient and visitor parking area, followed by improvements to portions of the emergency department and outpatient therapy area. In combination with the new entrance with direct access from Highway 51, the HYMC campus will:

• Improve the patient experience

• Improve efficiency and functionality for patients and staff

• Address issues that are characteristic of older construction

• Reduce operating costs through more efficient buildings

The Howard Young Foundation is pleased to provide monetary support, thanks to the generosity of our donors, for these important projects.

Do you know where to go in the Lakeland area to

receive mental health services? Comprehensive,

multidisciplinary care is as close as the Ministry

Koller Behavioral Health Clinic located within the

Howard Young Medical Center in Woodruff.

“In our region, we have at our disposal 12

psychotherapists who are mental health counselors,

five AODA counselors to help patients with issues

related to addiction, four psychologists to do

assessments, three psychiatrists who can prescribe

medications and one psychiatric nurse practitioner,”

explained Gina Koeppl, Ph.D., Licensed

Psychologist, and Director of Ministry Behavioral

Health-Northern Region. “In Woodruff, we

currently have mental health, AODA, and

memory testing available with a psychologist.”

The team provides confidential and compassionate

care for a wide variety of mental health concerns

in children and adults including, but not limited

to, attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder,

substance abuse, depression, anxiety, phobias,

bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, anger

management and stress management.

Howard Young Medical Center is Home to the Ministry Koller Behavioral Health ClinicServing the behavioral health needs of the Lakeland area

d e f i n i n g m o m e n t s 09

THE VALUE OF CONVENIENT, LOCAL CARE

The clinic’s location offers several advantages for

patients and their families: 1) They save the time

and cost associated with having to find out-of-town

care; 2) Providers know the community and what

ancillary services are available to augment treatment;

3) Hospital services such as the emergency

department and medical floors can plan safe

discharges, including the behavioral healthcare

that patients need.

A referral from your primary care physician is all it

takes for care to begin. “We then contact the patient

to see what they are anticipating and what exactly

they feel that they need so we can get them the right

type of treatment at the right time,” Dr. Koeppl said.

Clinic hours are 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. Monday through Thursday. Access the clinic through the north entrance of Howard Young Medical Center.

FOUNDED THROUGH THE GENEROSITY OF FRANK AND BETTY KOLLER

The Ministry Koller Behavioral Health Clinic

was made possible through an extraordinary

gift to the Howard Young Foundation from Frank

and Betty Koller after the death of their son by

suicide in 1978. In 2010, the Kollers announced

an additional gift—a $2.5 million bequest—to the

Foundation to assure that the clinic’s services

continue far into the future. Dr. Koeppl explained,

“In keeping with the legacy of the Koller Family

we are a highly collaborative regional service,

providing quality mental health, AODA, and

psychiatric care to our northern communities,

in tandem with other partners in care.”

The ICU at the Howard Young Medical CenterProviding the best of care in the worst of times

Q: WHAT IS AN INTENSIVE CARE UNIT?

A: “It is designated for patients who require

intensive life support, continuous

monitoring, or therapies and interventions

to support their recovery,” explained Deb

Karow, Vice President of Patient Care

Services for HYMC-Ascension. “ICUs have

a high degree of resources, not just in

technology and equipment, but also in

staff who have expertise in managing the

significantly ill and injured.

Receiving the right medical care in an emergency can be one of life’s most defining

moments. For critically ill or injured people in the Northwoods, the place to be is

the intensive care unit at Howard Young Medical Center in Woodruff. It is staffed

and equipped to treat a wide variety of patients, including those suffering from

respiratory failure, severe infections, heart or metabolic diseases and orthopedic

trauma to those recovering from significant surgical procedures.

To help you get to know your local ICU before you might need its services, we

caught up with some of the nurses and asked the following questions.

Page 11: Defining Moments OPENING THIS FALL - Cloudinary...activities, a beer tent and what do you have? The second annual Minocqua Dragon Boat Festival, to be held at Torpy Park, Minocqua,

d e f i n i n g m o m e n t s 11

“We are blessed to have a state-of-the-art

intensive care unit in the Northwoods. We

are very well-suited and positioned to take

care of patients who would normally, in

other settings, be transferred out of

the community.”

All but the most extreme cases, such as

acute heart attacks, burn victims, patients

needing transplants or those suffering

from head trauma are treated in the HYMC

intensive care unit.

Q: WHAT KIND OF TECHNOLOGY DOES OUR ICU HAVE?

A: HYMC’s intensive care unit is equipped

with the kind of cutting-edge equipment you

would find in a large, metropolitan hospital.

“The Howard Young Foundation has been

extremely generous with technology

upgrades throughout the entire hospital,”

Deb stated. “One thing that is top of mind

for me is a more sophisticated hypo-

hyperthermia unit that warms and cools

people who aren’t able to regulate their

own body temperature. Another example

is the Xenex® Ultraviolet robotic system to

irradiate and prevent organisms that cause

infection. That especially assists

our surgical and critical care areas.”

Q: WHO WILL BE TAKING CARE OF ME IN THE ICU?

A: Patients are cared for by a multidisciplinary

team that includes nurses, board-certified

hospitalists with special training in critical

care, a nephrologist (kidney doctor), a

physician who is both a pulmonologist

and an intensivist, cardiologists, general

surgeons, urologists, respiratory therapists,

physical therapists, caseworkers, dieticians,

technicians and a chaplain.

Sheila Hulce-Dittmann, RN, Manager of

Specialty Care, oversees the staff of 20

nurses and said they are very highly skilled.

“Working in a small community hospital

they have to be an expert at everything,

from saving someone’s life to developing

relationships with patients and their

families. That’s our specialty.”

All of the hospital’s ICU nurses have extra

life-support training, such as Advanced

Cardiac Life Support and Pediatric

Advanced Life Support.

Q: WHAT CAN I EXPECT AS A PATIENT?

A: First, you can expect to be treated with

dignity and respect and to be cared for by

the same nurses throughout your stay. Upon

arrival, you will be admitted to one of the

ICU’s 10 patient rooms for a thorough exam

and assessment, and an intravenous line

will be established so that medications and

fluids can be administered. Monitors will

measure your heart rhythm, blood pressure,

respirations and oxygenation rate. Readings

are transmitted to a central monitoring

station and alarms alert staff in the event

of abnormalities.

“While in the ICU you can also expect to

be checked on—a lot,” noted Deb. “No

less than every 15 minutes to begin with

and then no less than hourly after your

Page 12: Defining Moments OPENING THIS FALL - Cloudinary...activities, a beer tent and what do you have? The second annual Minocqua Dragon Boat Festival, to be held at Torpy Park, Minocqua,

12 d e f i n i n g m o m e n t s

condition stabilizes. We call it the high-

tech, high-touch unit.”

Your medical team will assess your

condition each morning and develop a

care plan for the day. Your nurses will

explain the plan and any procedures

or tests that have been ordered by your

physician. “Our nurses are extremely good

at communicating with patients and their

loved ones,” Deb said. “We are robust in

that process, because being in the ICU

can be scary.”

“We’re not just taking care of sick patients,”

commented Barbara Hiller, RN. “We’re also

taking care of family members. They want

to be part of what’s going on. The biggest

thing is to keep them in the loop. If you keep

them educated and help them understand

what’s going on it’s easier for them to deal

with the situation.”

Q: WHAT WOULD YOU LIKE PEOPLE TO KNOW ABOUT THE ICU?

A: “For me, I think it’s good to have a

healthcare organization that is called

Ministry,” said Gail Schmitz, RN. “It allows

us to involve the chaplain for that spiritual

part of healing. We’re able to care for the

entire person.”

Barbara would like people to know about

the ICU’s talented team. “We’re a good

group of people; very caring and educated.

We have an excellent set of physicians and

there’s mutual respect among staff. We

provide outstanding care for our patients

and their families.”

Q: WHAT ARE THE REWARDS OF ICU NURSING?

A: “My best days are when I sit down with

a family and get feedback that one of

my nurses made a difference,” said Sheila.

“Many patients who had been very sick

come back after discharge to see the

nurses who cared for them. They really

form a bond.”

Gail said, “The best days involve my

co-workers and I feeling like we really

helped our patients and have given them

the best care that we could. Even if the

outcome isn’t good, we’ve given the best

of care and families know and appreciate

that. We frequently get thank-you cards from

patients and family members in appreciation

of our hard work.”

Gail recently received a national award

for her kindness and compassion toward

patients. “She actually received two

nominations from different patients for

the time she spent with them and for

making them feel valued and respected,”

explained Sheila.

“We have a great department,” said Gail.

“We are very cohesive as a group and that is

reflected in quality results. On surveys, we

are highly rated in patient satisfaction.”

“Being in Minocqua we often have patients

who are from larger cities like Chicago,”

concluded Sheila. “They are simply amazed

at the quality of care and the level of

personalized care they receive here; that the

nurses remember their names. I’ve heard

this from many, many visitors to the area.”

My 9-1-1 MomentJanuary 6, 2017 was like any other day for Kenneth Martinez...until an explosion shattered his world and redefined his future.

A furnace explosion at a foundry in Phelps on

January 6, 2017 blew the safety helmet and mask

right off of 31-year-old Kenneth Martinez, who

was working just five feet from the explosion.

Doors in the building flew open, employees

outside felt the reverberation and the gas

station across the street shook.

“I just remember a loud noise and everything

going black,” Kenneth recalled. “After it happened,

I couldn’t open my eyes, so I couldn’t see what

was going on. I heard my buddy/supervisor yelling.

I was on fire, and he put me down on the floor and

put me out. I remember co-workers helping me to

the office. The next thing I remember is EMS all

around me.” Kenneth sustained third-degree

burns to his face, neck, arms and chest.

PUTTING DISASTER RESPONSE TO THE TEST

As Kenneth was being tended to by co-workers,

the Vilas County Sheriff ’s Department was paging

EMS teams from throughout the area to respond

to the scene. “The initial page was for the Phelps

ambulance, saying there was a burn victim from a

furnace explosion at the facility,” said paramedic

Dan Halverson. He was on duty in the emergency

department at Ministry Eagle River Memorial

Hospital with fellow paramedic Kasi Edwardson

and Cate Wilson, RN and Manager of Patient Care

Services. Immediately, Dan and Kasi were also paged

to respond, as well as Land O’ Lakes EMS.

“When you hear explosion and burns and foundry,

you prepare for multiple victims,” explained Cate.

While ambulances rushed to the scene, Cate

promptly assumed the role of incident commander

at the hospital and activated protocol for a mass

casualty event.

“We coordinated all of our resources to make sure

everyone was prepared for a sudden influx of

patients,” Cate said. Nursing staff, lab, x-ray and the

team at the front desk all were notified to be ready.

Off-duty personnel were put on standby. Howard

Young Medical Center in Woodruff was contacted

to have backup staff ready to send to MERMH if

needed. The Ministry Spirit Medical Transportation

Ground Ambulance was relocated from HYMC

to MERMH, also on standby. Dan had alerted the

Spirit 2 helicopter on his way out of the emergency

department, so it was already preparing for flight.

HYMC prepared to accept victims if necessary.

MEANWHILE, AT THE FOUNDRY . . .

The Town of Phelps ambulance arrived within

seven minutes of being dispatched. As first on the

scene, Advanced EMT Kathy Regenfuss and her

The Ministry Spirit 2 Medical Transportation Helicopter prepares to land at the explosion site, where Kenneth waits to be taken to to the

Level 2 Trauma Center at Ministry St. Joseph’s Hospital in Marshfield.

Page 14: Defining Moments OPENING THIS FALL - Cloudinary...activities, a beer tent and what do you have? The second annual Minocqua Dragon Boat Festival, to be held at Torpy Park, Minocqua,

husband Andy, Assistant Fire Chief, took charge of

Kenneth’s care until Kasi and Dan arrived. “They did

a marvelous job getting him decontaminated of any

chemicals that could have been on him from the

explosion and starting initial care,” Kasi remarked.

Dr. Mark Richards, the board-certified emergency

medicine physician on duty at MERMH, instructed

the team to push intravenous (IV) fluids to avoid

shock. They also administered pain medications

and covered Kenneth’s wounds with sterile burn

sheets and applied blankets to retain body heat

and prevent hypothermia.

Another concern was Kenneth’s airway: it had

begun to swell from smoke inhalation and burns

in his throat. He was having difficulty breathing

and needed to be intubated, a procedure in which a

tube is inserted through an incision into a patient’s

trachea to provide ventilation. That had to be done

by the helicopter’s flight crew. “We could hear the

helicopter coming and before you knew it they were

landing in the parking lot and taking over care,” Dan

said. Within 75 minutes of the 9-1-1 call, Kenneth

was on Spirit 2 for his journey to the Level 2 Trauma

Center at Ministry St. Joseph’s Hospital in Marshfield.

After being evaluated for additional injuries, Kenneth

was then transferred via the Ministry Spirit 1

helicopter to the University of Wisconsin Hospital

and Clinics Burn Center. “The entire EMS system

deserves credit for using critical thinking and

moving quickly to assist in Kenneth’s rescue

and recovery,” commented Kathy.

Although Kenneth was the only victim with life-

threatening injuries, the situation proved that area

EMS teams and our local hospitals are well-prepared to

rapidly organize and implement a coordinated response

during a disaster. “We didn’t end up having an influx

of patients come into our emergency department, but

the plans we put into place made it clear that we can

manage a catastrophic event,” stated Cate.

A SLOW, PAINFUL RECOVERY

Kenneth was in the Madison burn center for 35 days.

He continues to heal from multiple skin grafts and

has a grueling physical therapy schedule to prevent

tightening of his skin and scar tissue. At the time this

issue of Defining Moments was published, Kenneth

had just received custom compression garments,

which he needs to wear for the next one to two years.

The close proximity of the Ministry Spirit 2

Medical Transportation Helicopter was essential to

expediting Kenneth’s rescue. “Having the helicopter

at Howard Young gives us the ability to rapidly

transport severely injured patients,” remarked

Cate. Without it, his ordeal might have had quite a

different ending. Construction of the helicopter’s

hangar at HYMC was funded through the generosity

of Howard Young Foundation donors.

The explosion and its aftermath are painful for

Kenneth to talk about, but he did so to illustrate

the critical role of philanthropy in helping to provide

our hospitals with lifesaving equipment. We are

very grateful for his courage in retelling his story.

Kay and Dick Rhyner, Extraordinary Benefactors

Word gets around, and it wasn’t long after retiring to Hazelhurst that Kay and Dick Rhyner heard about the Howard Young Foundation and were inspired to support it. “I was asked to help with the Bonhomie Club, which is part of the Foundation,” recalled Kay. “Through Bonhomie we learned about the equipment that was being purchased for the Howard Young Medical Center. We were really impressed. Here’s a little hospital in the Northwoods that has continued to have the very latest equipment and that’s thanks to the Foundation.”

KEEPING HEALTHCARE LOCALAs a retired nurse, Kay recognizes that new physicians are more likely to set up practice in communities that have a technologically advanced hospital. “It’s important for physician recruitment, especially for students who are doing their residency here,” she said. “They know they will have access to the best equipment if they stay and set up their practice here.”

Supporting the Foundation also enables Kay and Dick to make a difference in the lives of their neighbors and friends. “It’s important to give of our time, talents, and finances to improve the quality of life in our community, not only for ourselves but for others,” commented Dick.

Kay agreed. “The day will come when we all need healthcare, and we don’t want to have to get in the car or have somebody drive us 50, 60, or 70 miles to receive it.”

Kay and Dick Rhyner have been generous supporters of the Howard Young Foundation. Kay also volunteered with the Auxiliary of Howard Young Medical Center. Before retiring, Kay spent her entire nursing career in hospital settings and Dick had a life-long career with the Boy Scouts of America.

Why We Give

We give because the Foundation purchases state-of-the-art equipment for our hospital.

In this, our Donor Appreciation edition of Defining Moments, we are proud to introduce you to Kay and Dick Rhyner and to recognize and applaud all of our donors listed on pages 18-23. Their extraordinary generosity continues to make a difference in the lives of our families, friends and visitors in the Northwoods.

Page 16: Defining Moments OPENING THIS FALL - Cloudinary...activities, a beer tent and what do you have? The second annual Minocqua Dragon Boat Festival, to be held at Torpy Park, Minocqua,

We are thrilled to announce that the 3D Mammography

System, funded through contributions to our “Early

Detection – Here and Now” campaign, is now in use

at Howard Young Medical Center.

We wish to thank all of our amazing campaign donors, in particular, Toni and Ron Budelier and Carolyn and John Sonnentag. Both couples

provided matching gifts of $125,000. Because of

their generosity and that of 100 other donors,

we exceeded our fundraising goal and used the

additional funds to provide HYMC’s imaging

department with a SecureView workstation and

more comfortable waiting and changing areas.

Dr. Currie, Radiology Director at HYMC, is

excited about the advantages of the new technology,

which was purchased at significant savings

through the buying power of Ascension Wisconsin.

Dr. Currie stated, “Multiple studies show that 3D

mammography with tomosynthesis increases both

the sensitivity and specificity of mammography.

This means that more breast cancers are detected,

while at the same time, recall rates are lowered.

This translates into a real advantage, since less

call-backs means less anxiety for our patients,

while still improving the rate of cancer detection.”

FASTER RESULTS, LESS WORRY

The new SecureView workstation at HYMC allows

radiologists to view and interpret your mammography

images almost immediately from our multiple sites of

care in northern Wisconsin and to provide results to

your doctor within 24 hours of your exam.

A NEW, COMFORTING SPACE

The remodeling of the imaging department

waiting and changing areas is complete and the

result is remarkable. Walking in the door, you

immediately develop a feeling of calm serenity.

“The number of patient compliments we’ve received

since reopening this space has been astounding,”

remarked Lauralee Pierquet, Manager of Imaging

Services at HYMC. “Everyone comments on how

lovely the area looks and the soothing effect of

the artwork and lighting.”
