The Deepwater Operations Conference & Exhibition celebrated its 15th anniversary with an attendance of 635. The event continued the tradition of excellence in addressing operational challenges in developing deepwater resources, returning to the Moody Gardens Hotel and Convention Center on November 7 – 9, 2017 in Galveston, Texas.
The deepwater market continues to evolve, as illustrated by the increase in water depth of the new floating production installations over the past 15 years. Meanwhile, the industry’s focus on cost efficiency is ushering in a new wave of digital solutions, and approaches for extending the life of existing assets.
The advisory board members assembled a series of comprehensive and thought-provoking conference sessions that addressed these and other trends that are shaping offshore operations. The topics included Fit for Service/Operations, Data Analytics/New Technology, Operational Excellence, Life Extension and Decommissioning, License to Operate/Regulatory Perspective, and Flow Assurance.
The year’s event included opportunities to network and collaborate with colleagues and customers. Attendees also spent time on the adjacent exhibition hall floor, discovering the latest products and services that are available in the market.

BEST PRESENTER
DEVELOPING AN OPERATOR-DRIVEN, COST-EFFECTIVE CHEMICAL MANAGEMENT PROGRAM
Bryan Arciero, Process Engineer; Murphy E&P Company - USA
An effective chemical management program begins with a decision making strategy based on technical data taking priority over a lowest-cost-commodity approach. This strategy has been supported with effective data collection and analytics in helping the operations and engineering team achieve production and OPEX targets and lower overall costs. This presentation will discuss the strategy that reduced opex significantly while improving chemical-application effectiveness across subsea and topsides applications.
Bryan Arciero is a process engineer for Murphy’s Gulf of Mexico assets. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering and is a registered professional engineer in Texas, Newfoundland, and the UK.
BEST PRESENTATION
HORN MOUNTAIN: FLOW ASSURANCE CHEMICAL OPTIMIZATION
Jade Juzswik, Production Engineer; Anadarko Petroleum Corporation
This presentation will discuss Anadarko’s work to align operating philosophies across three new offshore platforms that it acquired from another GoM operator. Through simulations, the flow assurance and chemical teams were able to optimize the use of hydrate inhibition chemicals. Additionally, prior operating experience, inhibitor qualification work, and pigging returns allowed for discontinuation of a combo asphaltene/paraffin inhibitor chemical, further reducing operational costs.
Jade Juzswik is a production engineer for the Gulf of Mexico Flow Assurance group at Anadarko Petroleum Corporation, where she supports operational flow assurance projects, chemical optimization, and virtual metering. Prior to joining the Flow Assurance team in 2017, she managed the production chemical program for Anadarko’s DJ Basin asset in Colorado. Juzswik graduated from Rice University with a B.S. in Chemical Engineering.
