2013-14 American Careers I found success through NTHS. My name is Adam Jenkins, and I am experiencing the power of being a member of the National Technical Honor Society. From 2010 to 2012, I attended The Technology Center, in Fremont, Ohio, for Computer Communications Networking and Technology (CCNT). Balancing a full schedule during high school is always a challenge. But, adding technical education studies, a part-time job, and club activities transforms you from being a casual jogger into a marathon runner. In my mind, you must have a dream that drives your heart, and I know that my chosen field in IT opens a legion of doors. Door #1 – Recognition. I joined NTHS, because I saw the value in its mission and its power to help technical education students to be recognized. NTHS motivated me to maintain good grades and embody all the attributes of its mission. While working in the electronics department of a local Kmart during high school, I clearly saw how the IT field connects our global community while working with Kmart, so attending college was essential. I had to see what was behind the next door. Door #2 – College and Career. My high school experience as a member of NTHS prepared me for college and for my current job. After graduating with NTHS on my résumé and just two semesters at the University of Cincinnati, a great job opportunity opened up to me. I am now working as a Systems Administrator at The Home City Ice Company. I love my job, and it is completely relevant to my field of study. Door #3 – Success. I am currently working and attending college at UC full time. I am paid nicely for my level of experience and am able help my parents to pay my tuition, to make my car payments, and to purchase a motorcycle – all in my first three months of graduating! Striving to be in NTHS is what inspired me to pay attention in class, and having the NTHS membership on my résumé definitely sets me apart from your average kid studying in my field. I am thankful to receive my invitation to continue my membership as an alumnus. I would recommend any student to strive to be in NTHS and never give up on your dreams. It is said that “Good things come to those who wait,” but that isn’t true. I say, “Good things come to those who dedicate themselves and refuse to quit.” Good luck to all the current and future members of the National Technical Honor Society.
