Thanks to Lee Allison, Roger Gibson, especially Roger who has worked many hours designing and following through to get this new Memorial. There were many others who were involved, but space and time won't allow me to name all. I would just like to say thanks for our great Charleston base for backing this project with their talents and their money. The love and comradeship is so strong and evident in this group of submarine sailors that I am honored to be among you. Stacy State Commander: Great news!! When you read this letter; our New WWII Memorial should have been dedicated in place at the cold war memorial. This means WWII Members a place to honor our lost boats and their crews. I really feel good that relatives and Kin can come to South Carolina to remember the Amberjack. Now let us remember who made all this possible; we owe thanks and praise to the Charleston base associates and the USSVI membership. Remember all men who wear Dolphins upon their chest are brothers of the best military unit in the world. Later we will be having an awards event to some special people who have honored us with their acts and deeds. Don’t forget our Christmas meeting at Ryan’s on December 17th at noon, we expect to have a special visitor, God bless us all, and everyone have a Merry Christmas. Lee Secretary: Oh boy a lot has happened since our last meeting, our November dedication was canceled due to heavy rain, then next schedule was Wednesday; then we had another shipmate go on eternal patrol, Jim Eckles, one of our associate members we had his funeral Wednesday, then Thursday rain again! And then it didn’t so we are now going to try December 7th Pearl Harbor Day so wish us luck. Thanksgiving was sort of sad we lost another of our associate members Ben Heber went on eternal patrol: I will miss Ben as many other shipmates will also. Our Christmas Party “USSVI” is this week and by the time you get this news letter it will have passed, the party is at the Gathering in Dorchester. Our WWII party is at Ryan’s on the 17th hope to see you there. At the dedication Memorial we have about 43 Chairs, just in case if you have a folding chair you might want to bring it. The time has finally arrived for the dedication “thank goodness” a lot of work has been put in to it we owe thanks to Ken Dyal and Sharon Reavis for their part in this endeavor, may changes were made in the graphics, then finally a finished product we get underway at 1400 hours, station the maneuvering watch at 1330… I hope everyone has a Merry Christmas if I don’t see you, but remember what the “Christmas holidays are all about”

Minutes of September & October meeting Tolling of the bell for the WWII lost boats in September and October a moment of silent prayer for those boats. Stacy: welcome to the widows and their families, Lillian McCollum, Connie Mabie along with son Dave and Susan, Abe with his grand daughter Chaise Marie Danielson, she is sweet sixteen or eighteen. Abe to all members get your eyes back in your head….also Marshall and his wife Cecilia welcome to all of you. Mike introduced his grand son Caleb and also I’m not sure if I should call him a gentleman Pat Walters, he has two strikes against him he was in the surface Navy Lieutenant and I’ll tell you his full name and you’ll get an idea who his grand father was, his name was George Patton. As you know I’m associated with the honor flights and there are some people that were unable to go for

some reason or other Pat is on the board of directors of the medal of Honor association and they are going to put on a special presentation at the Patriots point; the week after the honor flights First I want to give praise to those who fought in the Second World War, and for you Mike It is unbelievable the time and work and preparation for these WWII veterans, for them to be able to go to Washington and see this wonderful sight, but for me to know that you fought in the second world war and are unable to go is why I’m here we have at Patriots Point something special on fourteen November we want to select you to come and be there. We will start of with a early breakfast starts at 1030 and be conclude at 1300 and we will have private time for the WWII Vets to get together then we will have snacks fruits and sandwiches “catered” I’m trying to promote and to get the selected WWII Vets to come at 1030 there will be a private ceremony, then at 1200 we will go from hanger bay three to hanger bay one, and we will have a public ceremony we are hoping to get Chuck Murray from a Medal of Honor recipient from Columbia and Jim Livingston medal of Honor recipient from Vietnam we though we would talk about Afghanistan and Iraq, we need to talk about Patriotism commitment as you in world war two believed in as you fought in, after the three speeches we will launch a small wreath then we will have tables and we hope you WWII Veterans will bring some memorabilia or a picture and sit at a table there will be a lot of Americans coming to the Yorktown and they will come to the tables and ask you to tell them about patriotism, tell me about commitment, tell me about your life, ill pass out these fliers I need your name and address so I can contact you I thank you for what you did for us and our country, Ill be here after the meeting. Pat Stacy: thank you, I would to say hear and now to the USSVI thank you for coming up with the 1000 dollars, lets give them a hand, four or five of us were trying to figure how we could come up with enough monies to pay for this monument for the WWII Submarine lost in the Second World War, the monies collected was enough to cover the cost again our thanks. Lee: As you know our WWII convention was held in Green Bay Wisconsin and the end of these conventions there is a synopsis sent out telling the state commanders what is going on, so far I haven’t received anything from the powers to be I know they are worried about money, as far as I know the Polaris will be printed in 2010 it might go down to three copies, the WWII convention will be in Cincinnati on the same year as far as the 2011 they are talking about going to New London where we started from, not much more info to put out but what I’m trying to find out is how many we have left in our membership, we had once 12000 members South Carolina had 288 at one tin from which I under stand before I moved here, now we are down to 17 members and we have depend on what we can do locally to help our local members, other things I very proud to say I have recognized a dream and all you guys from the USSVI (To Pat) “oh by the way are these guys invited to this WWII Reorganization on the carrier?” (Pat, yes they are) Lee continuing, make sure you guys are there, you have really come forward and helped us with the WWII War memorial to be put in at the Cold War Memorial it is something I couldn’t Hardly believe could happen but you guys put it over, you cant realize how thankful I am, the other thing the Honor flights I was down for instructions before our meeting I am going on this flight and looking forward to it we will be escorted by guardians, at the meeting they started calling the names of these guardians, wow you would be surprised at all the good looking girls and I got Mikes grandson! I just wanted to welcome Connie Lillian other then that I’ll sit down and shut up. Mike I was in charge of getting the hats for these guys, I worked with a doctor in Columbia went up there to pick up 4 box’s of hats drove to the meeting this morning and started handing out hats after the second box I noticed on the back it had “Viet Nam Vets” I take no responsibility for that. Lee

I want to say one more thing that touched me a while ago, I was in Sub School in New London when the Wahoo was sunk, and this sub did a tremendous job for us she was one deadly submarine, a tremendous on those Japanese. Stacy: Treasurer report, monies were discussed. Mrs. McCann’s sent in 100 dollars, Avery lord 100 dollars, Stacy 200 dollars, William Snyder 100dollars, Abe 100 dollars, Cdr Wooster 50 dollars this was added to what we got from passing the hat and USSVI Charleston base we have enough to pay for the memorial, our thanks to all who contributed. For those WWII Vet that wants to go to the Memorial dedication, but can’t drive; we will ask Charleston base Cob to put the word out so we can get you there but let us know…. Secretary: Motion for the approval of the minute’s motion made and approved, Law. New business Abe Jenkins, I would like to say something about a hard working man in our WWII organization who has kept the organization alive I am so thankful for him Lee we owe him a debt of gratitude, for the long hours thank you. Stacy, Roger would you give us a run down on the “Amberjack” memorial. The memorial is set for November 11th at the cold war memorial; the plates were shipped out Friday and will be mounted next week. We will be sure we have a portable potty so we all can relax. Stacy, we have two widows, Lilly and Connie would like to say something about your service with Mac? Lily “oh no but he dragged me all over the world” how many years were you and Mac married “60” years. Cob: USSVI Upcoming events, first Ken Hutchinson lung operation today, the tumor was benign and he will recover fully, thank the Lord. The Hog roast, October 24 the cost is 5 dollars and a side dish, and this is at Buddha farm, Veterans Day in Summerville at 1100 hours “November 11” On November 8th we will be attending the taste of Summerville we will doing a bell tolling ceremony for the lost boats, the Christmas party at the Gathering is December 5th 1700, 5 o clock Roger: I had the wrong date for the hog roast was looking at the wrong month please forgive me. Abe are we going to have a WWII meeting in December, Lee yes the third Thursday it will be our Christmas partly day. Nick USSVI Chaplin, just a note that our church “Old Fort Baptist church” on November 8 we are having a patriotic musical called faith of our fathers at 1800 also on November the 14th we will do the same thing at 1400 at the victory house in Walter burgh, Stacy had a question on dates on the Christmas party and Kings bay, our USSVI party in December. Lee: Talking about our widows they are far from widows because they represent two of the greatest guys we had in this organization, if I wanted to know anything about submarines all I had to do is ask Sy Mabie and he knew anything about submarines now Mac and I go back to the 1970 where we went to our conventions and all I had to do is remember the name of his boat, it was the plunger and you always saw him walking around with a plunger. Now I also have to acknowledge some one else, my eyes are going and my hearing and if I didn’t have Roger with me I don’t know what this place would do, because he is the back bone of this organization. Nick; Roger be sure you put that in the minutes, “thank you all” Roger I am humbled! Stacy: Benediction amen;

End of minutes
