Space

• How large is the room space?• How close are objects within that room?

Line

• Conveys sense of movement• Eyes move from one place to another

along a straight line• Can create a focal point

Form

• Describes shape and structure of solid objects in room

• 2 dimensional—rugs and walls• 3 dimensional--furniture

Texture

• Refers to “feel” of the surface of objects in a room.

• Upholstery, window treatments, pillows, flooring.

• Can be actual or illusions

Common Psychological Associations of Color

• The color of the room and furnishings can alter the mood of individuals in the room.

• Red and orange are busy colors and give a room a sense of energy.

• Green and blue are calming and relaxing.• Yellow is cheering and happy.• Earth tones (brown, tan, gray etc.) are neutral and

affect mood less than other colors.

• Light colors make a room feel larger.

• Dark colors make a room feel smaller.
