Physlcai training, troop informati~n classes. essentla~ subjects training, and MOS training were held on a regular basis. Many of the technlcJans in Maintenance Platoon assisted the shfp 1 s company In s~pport of shlp 1 s operations. A total of uS ~ork orders were completed du~ing the reportIng period. Permission was received from BLSG to dlspatc~ MT MaIntenance contact teams to both USS DENVER and USS DULUTH to perform maIntenance on M274 mules belonging to BlT 3/9, ~owever. transportation was not provided and the Jobs were not completed. The Maintenance Officer comp~eted a BLT Ma~ntenance Management SOP, and submitted It to the BlT for approved and publication.
in support of Operation Frequent WWnd, lSU 3/9 was lnlt!al~y requ!red to transport batteries, water cans. and lForm ammunition to augment lSU 1/9 safety stocks, When the processing of evacuees started, Marines assisted the ship's company In providing search teams, security teams and working parties that ass~sted in feeding and settling the refugees aboard, Cots and blankets from Marine suppl ies were made available to make the refugees stay aboard shilp more comfortable, When the refugees were transferred to MSC shIps Marine security forces were assigned t6 each boat to assist the handling of the refugees and to maintain order If requIred,
When departing Camp Fujr. Japan, this LSU was instructed to leave without Its heavy vehicles and equipment. This equipment was to be embarked aboard subsequent shipping and join us !n our AOA. Some of the vehicles were embarked aboard the USS ANCHORAGE but 14 M35 1 s and I I MIOS's remained at Camp Fuji. When the USS ANCHORAGE arrived at White Beach, the amphlb!ous assuait bulk fuel system and one M543 wrecker were off loaded to make room for more Important cargo. Plans were made by BLT 3/9 and CTF 76 to cross deck vehicles and equipment to other ARG BRAVO ships when the USS aNCHORAGE arrived In the holding area. However, the USS ANCHORAGE did not arrive until Pha:.e il of Operation Frequent WInd had commenced and as a result no cross decking was accomplished,
