Dear Parents, Students and Residents:
The hustle and bustle of the holiday season is upon us. As we are busy baking, shop-
ping and gift giving let us remember the greatest gift of the holidays is time spent with
family and loved ones. Our holiday programs are one of my favorite times of the
school year as our students proudly show off their fancy dresses and dress shirts while
singing their hearts out on stage. Not only do I love to watch the precious faces of our
students but I thoroughly enjoy watching the audience capturing the moment taking
photos, vying for the perfect spot for recording the program and the complete joy and
pride they have in watching their child perform. If you come to the programs with the
holiday stress of the season, you are certain to leave with complete adoration and a
perspective on what matters most, your children and family.
The human spirit is alive and well; we have a large number of families and staff mem-
bers that have adopted Christmas angels in hopes that we can spread a little cheer to
those who are less fortunate. Thank you to the generosity of our school family for
spreading holiday cheer to the children in our community.

As the winter weather approaches, please be reminded to slow down for our school
busses. Encourage your children that are driving to school to give themselves plenty
of time to drive in safely to school and to do so with caution. Please notify Mrs. Bru-
net in the elementary office or Mrs. Barney for grades 5-12 if there are changes in
emergency contacts should we have an early dismissal due to poor weather conditions.
Look for delays and cancellations on the local radio stations as well as WWNY TV 7
and Channel 10 News and on our school webpage, http://lisboncs.schoolwires.com.
I wish everyone memorable moments with family and friends, good health and a new
year that brings even greater joy than the year prior.
Sincerely,
Erin E. Woods Eric Burke

News from Interact
On October 28, Interact celebrated Breast Cancer Awareness month by having a “Think Pink” day.
Pink ribbons were sold for $1.00 and all proceeds were sent to the American Cancer Society. Stu-
dents raised $101. We also have been collecting pink, Yoplait yogurt tops. Each top is worth 10
cents to the American Cancer Society.
During the first two weeks of November, students rolled coins collected from the Trick or Treat for
UNICEF project. The total was $699.19 – that provides 10,000 kids with water! Thanks to all the
UPK – 4th grade students that collected money. Special thanks to Aramis Sattler for bringing in
$55!
Interact members are currently selling Rotary/Lions Club Calendars for $20. If you would like to
purchase one (they make great Christmas presents J), please contact Becky Akins. $5 of each calen-
dar sale will go toward our “Relay for Life” fundraising account.
On December 21, we will make our annual visit to the Lisbon ICF and the apartments across the road
to deliver Christmas cookies and sing Christmas carols to the residents.
BOX TOPS
Please keep saving and sending in your box tops.
Turn them into your child’s classroom teacher and we
get credit for every box top.

Spectator Sportsmanship Guidelines
Remember that you are at a contest to support your team and to enjoy the skill and competition, not to intimidate or ridicule the other team and its fans.
Remember that school athletics are learning experiences for students and that mistakes are sometimes made. Praise student-athletes in their attempt to improve themselves as students, as athletes, and as people as you would praise a student working in the classroom.
Learn the rules of the game, so that you may understand and appreciate why certain situations take place.
Show respect for the opposing players, coaches, spectators and support groups. Treat them as you would treat a guest in your own home.
Refrain from taunting or making any kind of derogatory remarks to your op-ponents during the game.
Respect the integrity and judgment of game officials. Understand that they are doing their best to help promote the student-athlete and admire their willingness to participate in full view of the public.
Recognize and show appreciation for an outstanding play by either team. Use only those cheers that support and uplift the teams involved. Be a positive role model through your own actions.

GUIDANCE OFFICE NEWS
Tis the season…the Financial Aid season!
It will soon be time to fill out the Free Application for Federal Stu-
dent Aid (FAFSA) for college-bound seniors. To be eligible for any type
of financial aid, including student loans, the FAFSA must be filled out us-
ing the 2010 tax year information for the student and the parents. There-
fore, it cannot be completed until after January 1, 2011. Students and par-
ents may fill out the FAFSA on the Internet. The FAFSA is available
online at:
www.fafsa.ed.gov
The FAFSA online is a quicker way to send in the forms and helps to flag problem answers as they are
entered on the computer. The FAFSA is a free form and should not cost any money to file – be aware
that other websites exist that have you fill out the FAFSA with them and pay a processing fee. IT
SHOULD BE FREE!
We will host a FINANCIAL AID MEETING at Lisbon in the distance learning classroom on
December 2nd
at 6:30 p.m. If you have a senior planning to attend college, please try to attend with
your child!
Remember that many colleges have financial aid deadlines or priority dates by which they
would like you to submit your FAFSA. Adhering to these deadlines may result in more financial aid
awarded to the student. Some deadlines are as early as February 1st.
SUNY also hosts a Saturday program to help families fill out the FAFSA form under the help and di-
rection of financial aid office staff. The SUNY Financial Aid Day will be held at SUNY
Canton this year on Saturday, February 12th. Look for more information in the coming
weeks at www.canton.edu or call 386-7616.
For information specific to federal student loans, the following website includes all of the
details: www.studentloans.gov
SCHOLARSHIPS ~ SCHOLARSHIPS ~ SCHOLARSHIPS
Scholarship applications are beginning to arrive in the guidance office. Ms. Love has assigned
each senior a labeled mailbox in the guidance office in which copies of scholarship applications are
placed as they arrive. Students need only to come in and periodically check their mailbox to pick up
new applications. However, keep up with them and don’t let the deadlines pass you by!
There are many ways to search for scholarships but beware of scholarship scams!
Whether you receive something in the mail or via the Internet, note that if something seems to
good to be true, it may be. Check it out further before getting involved in a program of which
you are unsure. Also, be aware that you should never have to pay for a

scholarship application – any processing fee or required payment is wrong! If you are interested in search-
ing for more scholarship ideas, check out these websites:

Thinking of playing sports in college?
If students are considering playing sports in college, it will be necessary to complete the NCAA
Clearinghouse paperwork or register on-line to clear them for eligibility to play. If you have questions or
need more information, ask Mrs. Putman or visit the following websites:
www.ncaa.org
www.ncaaclearinghouse.net
Parents: Want to save for college, but don’t know where to begin?
Whether your children are teens or still in diapers, it is never too late to begin saving something for
your child’s educational future. One great program to consider is New York’s 529 College Savings Pro-
gram. A 529 college savings program is a State-sponsored savings plan that enables you to save for col-
lege tuition, room and board, books, supplies, and other qualified higher education expenses in a tax-free
program. Under the New York 529 program, earnings and principal are free from
federal and State income taxes. You can receive a NY State income tax deduction of
up to $5,000 ($10,000 for married couples filing jointly).
If your child does not go to college, you can change the beneficiary at any
time to another qualified family member for his/her education. If the money is not
used for education expenses, you may still withdraw the money, but will be subject to
certain taxes and penalties. For more information or to open a 529 account, call 1-
800-523-1544 or visit the following site: www.collegesavingsny.com
Another way to put a few cents into an educational account for your children, grandchildren, or
others is to open a Upromise Rewards account. This is a free, optional service that can add to your savings
when you register your credit, debit, grocery, and drug store cards. Particular companies and manufactur-
ers agree to donate a percentage of a purchase price of an item back to the customer in a Upromise Re-
wards account. It is similar to earning rebates or frequent flyer miles on credit card purchases. For exam-
ple, when you buy Skippy peanut butter at the grocery store, you earn a small percentage of money in your
Upromise account. The money definitely builds slowly, but over 50,000 stores, restaurants, and services
participate, along with over 200 online retailers. After you have earned a particular amount, you can have
the money moved out of Upromise to a 529 savings account or other approved savings plan to earn inter-
est. Join Upromise and get more information at: www.nysaves.org
