Business Intelligence
is the process of col-
lecting, processing and
analysing data to pro-
duce relevant, accu-
rate and timely infor-
mation with the aim of
supporting decision
making.
In simple terms, Busi-
ness Intelligence is a
process in which data
is converted to rele-
vant and accurate in-
formation so that de-
cisions on how to move
an organization or indi-
vidual forward could
be reached.

BON VOYAGE
Have you ever taken time to
ponder on why newly born
babies are made to cry at
birth? If they decide to be
quiet, there is usually appre-
hension in the labour room.
All manners of ‗‘cruelty, in-
cluding slapping the tot‘s
bom bom ‘‘ is inflicted, till
the shrill cry of the fragile
baby is celebrated. Is it
that our world is wicked and
the only way to welcome the
baby to this complex world,
is to tell him you better get
use to the pain of your new
environment? Toady, Road
Traffic Crashes (RTCs) is
one of the several pains in
our society. Sad enough, the
statistics generated from
RTCs are that of real people
that cut across age, gender,
colour, height and status.
The birth of the INSIGHT:
a monthly bulletin of the
Planning Advisory Unit
(PAU) of the Federal Road
Safety Corps is akin to the
type of welcome the mid-
wife ‗inflicts‘ on a baby that
refuses to cry at birth.
INSIGHT has many mid-
wives that would not stop
‗pinching‘ it until it braces up
to become an instant suc-
cess. The challenge, no
doubt is enormous, but we
are resolute and convinced
that your support and criti-
cism would make INSIGHT
deliver on every of its prom-
ises.
INSIGTH is one of the nu-
merous ways, the PAU would
impact on realizing the Fed-
eral Road Safety Corps‘ Vi-
sion of ‗‘eradicating road
traffic crashes and creating
safe motoring environment
in Nigeria‘‘. PAU would live
to its slogan of - generating
intelligence to give direc-
tion. A direction that would
transform the FRSC into a
world class organization.
Giant Steps - details of
which would be shared with
you in subsequent editions -
have already been taken to
launch the Corps into the
league of world class organi-
zations. The FRSC brand
which you are part of is sym-
bolic. Have you realized how
affable the FRSC brand is?
May be you have not even
thought of it, as the same
organization whose first
Chairman is the internation-
ally acclaimed Nobel Lauret,
Professor Wole Soyinka.
If in doubt of how vibrant
and dynamic the FRSC brand
is, Consider the following:
The Governor in your Sector
Command is by convention a
Road Safety Marshal. As Pa-
tron of the Special Marshals
in the state, he is also a
member of the larger Road
Safety family.
Celebrated Artists like
Richard Mofe Damijo,
Stephanie Okereke, Bukky
Wright and Segun Arinze
belong to the same brand.
Notable Nigerians that are
pace setters and award win-
ners in their respective pro-
fessions such as Ali Baba,
Bisi Olatilo, Eniola Bello and
Louis Odion are distinguished
members of the FRSC brand.
Have you paused to ask your-
self why these trail blazers
would join the FRSC brand?
It properly means that even
in their enviable societal
ranking they still see your
brand worth identifying with,

The Terrafugia Transition
could re-define the con-
vertible and door-to-door
travel.
The car is designed by a
team of MIT aeronautics
engineers, including Terra-
fugia co-founders: Carl
Dietrich and his wife Anna
Mracek Dietrich.
The first models will be deliv-
ered next year. True, with its
wings retracted like football
goalposts, the Transition,
whose 100-horsepower engine
gets it 35 m.p.g. on terra
firma, isn't going to be a
match for an Italian sports
car. But extend the vehicle's
gull wings — and you are re-
quested to do this at an air-
port — and the rear-propeller-
powered Transition can fly two
passengers about 500 miles at
a cruising speed of 105 m.p.h.

The ‗No Phone Zone‘ cam-
paign implores fans to
pledge not to use cell
phones while driving.
"My biggest hope for the
No Phone Zone campaign is
that it becomes mandatory
that no one uses their
phone in the car or texts
while driving—just as seat
belts are mandatory, just as
driving while drunk is con-
sidered absolutely taboo,
I'm hoping that this be-
comes not just law, but sec-
ond nature for all of us,"
the black American multi
millionaire told her audi-
ence.
As a national call to action,
all viewers and rally partici-
pants will be asked to take
the No Phone Zone pledge
by going to www.Oprah.com/
No Phone Zone or by tex-
ting NPZ to 30644. By mak-
ing the pledge, drivers will
agree to make their cars
―No Phone Zones‖. More than
200,000 people have already
signed the No Phone Zone
pledge, including a list of more
than 60 celebrities such as
Sandra Bullock, Tina Fey, Shaun
White, Morgan Freeman, Sir
Elton John, Jerry Seinfeld, the
cast of TV's Glee, country mu-
sic's Lady Antebellum and
Queen Rania of Jordan, among
others. Oprah is lucky; she is
not fighting the dragon alone.
She has behind her dozens of
giants. She is fast winning the
dragon.
Nigeria is one giant with so
many dragons to fight but a
healthy child is far better pre-
pared for a war than a sick gi-
ant. We must not make the
most populous black nation to bear
the ugly mark of high rate of mor-
tality resulting from road traffic
crashes.
A Unified attempt must be made
by all to give the country the de-
sired medicine to make it well. One
of such ways is by adopting the ‗No
Phone Zone‘ ideology. We as offi-
cers and men of FRSC should
champion this great cause by advo-
cating the adoption of ‘No Phone
Zones‘ in our vehicles and sharing
this message with our friends and
family. It will go a long way to mak-
ing the giant of Africa fit enough
to live up to its name.

Business Intelligence can be
applied to both organisations

In an organization, Business In-

unit which is a team of dedi-

better for the individual. It
may involve analysing how
much we spend on transpor-

In 1687, Father Ferdinand Verbiest, a Catholic
priest invented the first car in the world as it
was powered by steam and only 15-inches. The
car was built for the Chinese Emperor, Chien
Lung. However, the first self propelled car
with the capacity to carry three persons was
built by Nicholas Joseph Cugnot in 1769. culled from www.firstcarnow.com
