PRESENTATION OF CONFIRMATION

AND FIRST EUCHARIST

CANDIDATES Our Confirmation Candidates are entering their final preparation to receive the sacrament of Confirmation in April. They will be presented to the parish community on Sunday, December 9th at the 5:30 PM Mass. The second grade children of our parish are beginning their preparation to receive the Body and Blood of Jesus Christ for the first time in the Sacrament of First Eucharist. Their Presentation will take place at all of our Masses the weekend of April 13th and 14th. Receiving the sacraments of First Eucharist and Confirmation is an event of importance to the whole parish community. These candidates are not preparing alone. One way in which our parish members demonstrate their participation in the preparation of these young people is by prayer. In this coming together as a parish community, we witness the strength of the Holy Spirit working in and among us. We, the parish community of St. Jean Vianney, commend each of you and pledge our full support.

LIFE TOGETHER Dear Friends, This weekend is a crowded one for the liturgical year. The Feast of the Immaculate Conception was celebrated on Saturday of this weekend, and then on Saturday afternoon we celebrated the Vigil for the Second Sunday of Advent. Lots of celebrations. The reason is that December 8th is a Holy Day of Obligation as this is the feast of the Patroness of the United States. It is a feast that is never not celebrated, although the “obligation” for Mass may be dispensed depending on when it falls on the calendar. So, if you were here Saturday morning and Saturday afternoon, welcome back! The Advent Penance Service is this coming Tuesday, December 11th at 7:00pm. We will have many priests here to hear individual confessions during the Penance Service. As you can see on the poster in Church, there are many opportunities for you to share in this Sacrament during Advent. I hope you will take one of those opportunities this coming Tuesday. An aspect of Advent is renovation: dealing with one’s failings and seeking the mercy of God is a healthy spiritual practice that will produce good fruit. The second DVD in the series of seven, “God’s Plan” will be put on the parish website soon. Recently a large number of liturgical ministers spent time together reflecting on the first DVD “Finding God.” These DVD’s are being presented to help you consider what the gift of Faith means in your own life. This is a special time of the year for the church with Advent and Christmas coming soon. The parish is also excited about the initial success of our ongoing Capital Campaign. With 2012 coming to a close, some have asked me about the end of year giving. Certainly, as an individual or family you have the opportunity to give a gift to the parish on or before December 31st. There are tax benefits for you and I am grateful for the generosity of parishioners. If you have already given a gift to the Capital Campaign and wish to give again, this would be most welcome. If you have yet to give to the Campaign, this is an opportunity for you to do so now. Call the parish office and ask for Debbie Daigle, the Campaign Secretary or myself. Our parish is so blessed to witness so many acts of kindness and generosity. The Men’s Club will hold their annual Christmas Dance next Saturday evening. Tickets are on sale. Call the Parish Office. This weekend we will celebrate the Rite of Acceptance into the Order of Catechumens and the Rite of Welcome into Candidacy for an already baptized person. We have three people who will become unbaptized catechumens and one person who is becoming a baptized Candidate for Full Initiation. Also, we will observe the presentation of our candidates for Confirmation.

It’s not too early to be thinking about the Christmas schedule. The Christmas Concert from 11:30pm-midnight will be very fine. I hope you have a great week and blessed Advent time. Love,

Will meet December 24th at 3:00 PM for a bell choir rehearsal at the church. Children in 1st grade and up are invited to play. The Christmas concert is at 3:30 PM. (Children will sit with their parents during Mass.)

DOING GOOD WORK Thank you to Terrie Gavin and Nancy LaBauve for working overtime to organize all of the choir's sheet music!

SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY NEWS THE GIVING TREE Our Advent Giving Tree is located in church near the Sacristy. Each family wanting to participate in this outreach ministry is asked to take an ornament from the Giving Tree and prepare their gift for the person described. It is important that the gifts be returned under the tree by December 9th. The ornaments will provide an opportunity for us to reach out to those persons facing the holidays with inadequate funds, those who are ill or homebound, and those preparing to receive the sacraments. Please offer your prayers for these individuals during this holiday season.
