Important Information
This year our school will continue to implement the school-wide positive behavior program. Our next celebration will be taking place on December 14th and it will be our “Slumber and Snow” day. In order for students to attend, they must meet the following requirements: (1) must have 50(+) dojo points, (2) cannot have more than 14 negative dojo points, and (3) ABSOLUTLEY NO office
referrals.

Word Study Focus: vowel sound in “town”
We will practice these words for two weeks and take a quiz on 12/6/18. Our writing focus for the 2nd 9 weeks will be an informative writing piece. Students will be shown models of quality informational writing and will practice writing their own.

Unit 3: Operations and Algebraic Thinking: Patterns
in Addition and Multiplication In this unit students will: -Understand concepts of area and relate area to multiplication and addition. -Find the area of a rectangle with whole number side lengths by tiling it -Multiply side lengths to find areas of rectangles with whole number side-lengths in context of solving real world and mathematical problems -Construct and analyze area models with the same product -Describe and extend numeric patterns -Understand the commutative property’s relationship to area -Create arrays and area models to find different ways to decompose a product -Use arrays and area models to develop understanding of the distributive property -Solve problems involving one and two steps and represent these problems using equations with letters representing the unknown quantity -Create and interpret pictographs and bar graphs -Find area of rectilinear figures by decomposing them into non-overlapping rectangles and adding the areas of the non-overlapping parts
We are already practicing for our 1st Math Challenge. The 1st Math Challenge will cover 90 multiplication facts.
Students must get 81 correct in 4 minutes.
Please practice multiplication facts each night!

A Note from Mrs. Lee
I will be having surgery on December 5th, and I will be out of

This week in science we will be learning about pollution
and conservation. 1. Hazardous Waste: Waste that can pollute the
environment even in small amounts 2. Litter: Trash that is not disposed of in a way that
prevents harm to the ecosystems 3. Pollutant: A material that causes pollution 4. Pollution: The addition of harmful material to the
environment 5. Biodegradable Material: Matter that breaks down
easily in the environment 6. Compost: Decayed material from once-living things
that is used to enrich soil 7. Decomposer: An organism that breaks down the
remains of dead organisms or materials that are made from once-living things
8. Ecotourism: Travel to natural habitats that avoids harming them and helps preserve these areas and the living things there
9. Recycle: To collect old materials, process them, and make new items.
