1. Ovations auditions are this week on Tuesday 12/4, Wednesday 12/5 & Thursday 12/6 from 3:00 to 6:00pm! If you're wondering whether this program is for you, there will be an informational meeting today during advisory in BE 19 to help you decide. In this session, you'll learn about the audition process, hear the theme for this years show, and have an opportunity to ask the director of the program any questions you might have. Report directly to BE 19 and we will make a note on your advisory attendance. We hope to see you there!

2. Are you interested in exploring STEM in London and Paris? Then come join Ms. Vega on Tuesday, December 4 at 6pm in room BE22. If you are 7th grade and above don’t miss out on this great and exciting summer 2020 opportunity. Bring your parents, so they can learn more. 3. Attention ALL Blair students, if you are interested in playing tennis and would like to inquire about the Blair Tennis Program, there will be an important meeting in Mr. Craig's class (Room 1210) class this Friday, December 7, at lunch, be there!

4. The Pasadena Unified School District (PUSD) invites students and parents to the College & Career Academy Showcase Night this Thursday, December 6th from 5 - 7 p.m. at the McKinley School Gymnasium, located at 325 S. Oak Knoll Avenue in Pasadena. The Showcase gives prospective students and families an opportunity to learn about PUSD College & Career Academies, interact with teachers, students, and parents. Interactive exhibits will feature each PUSD academy, including health careers; creative arts media and design; law and public service; arts entertainment and media; business and entrepreneurship; engineering and environmental science; computer

science; and creative industries. Families with students in grades 5-8 are highly encouraged to attend and explore their options for high school.

5. Blair is hosting a “Find out How to Attend College For FREE” night. A Pomona College Representative will discuss the educational value & cost benefits of attending a private liberal arts college. Join us this Thursday, December 6th at 6pm in room C1135 at the middle school campus. All PUSD middle and high school families are welcomed to come.

6. The BSU is sponsoring a field trip to Debbie Allen's Hot Chocolate Nutcracker this Friday, December 7th. The show is a contemporary adaptation of the traditional Nutcracker ballet. Any Blair student who would like to attend is welcome. The tickets are $10. Please see Mrs. Law in room BE3 for a field trip permission slip and more information. Permission slips and money are due this Wednesday, December 5th.

7. On Saturday, December 8, 2018 the Friends of The Altadena Library will be holding a Pop-Up Book Sale during The Annual Christmas Tree Lane Lighting Festivities. The Friends of The Library are looking for several volunteers to help them set up, organize books and clear up when the day is done! This is great opportunity to complete community service hours, help out at a fun community event, and assist a great group of people. Most of the Friends of The Altadena Library members are elderly and really need help with the setting up (at 10:00am) and breaking down of the sale (at 7:00pm). This is a great volunteer opportunity for volunteers age 12 and up!

10. The next Saturday School will be this Saturday, December 15. Come and make up your detention hours or Saturday school hours up before the next school activity.

11. The Center for Student Financial Aid at Call State L.A. is pleased to offer financial aid application workshops (FAFSA) for the 2019-2020 academic year. 1. Looking to complete volunteer/community service hours in a fun and rewarding opportunity? The City of Pasadena Human Services and Recreation Department is looking for volunteers who can assist elementary aged children (ages 8-12) with their math, reading, writing, and science homework after school. The Homework, fitness, and fun program meet three days a week at the Villa-Parke Community Center. Anyone 18 & over will have to successfully complete a LiveScan background clearance before being allowed to volunteer. 3. Are you a high school senior planning to study science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) fields in college? 4. AXA Achievement Scholarship – Deadline is December 14, 2018. The AXA Achievementsm Scholarship provides over $1.4 million in scholarships to young people throughout the nation representing all 50 states, Washington DC and Puerto Rico. Students have the opportunity to receive a $2,500, $10,000 or $25,000 scholarship. 6. Odenza Marketing Group Volunteer Scholarship - $500 – 1 Award Deadline December 30, 2018. The main goal of the Odenza Marketing Group Volunteer Award is to encourage students to make a positive contribution to their individual communities, while providing scholarship awards to those who have done so over the previous 12 months. To be eligible for the award the student must: A. Be between the ages of 16 and 22 on December 30, 2017. B. A student must also possess a GPA of 2.5 or higher in his/her last academic year. C. A student must have contributed at least 50 hours of volunteer (non-paid) service within his/her community over the last 12 months. D. Be a resident of USA or Canada. The ALW Training Scholarships are awarded to public school students in grades six through eleven to cover the costs associated with attending summer study and after school programs to further their training in the theatre arts. 10. The Wing offers ALW University Scholarships for public school students who are in grade 12 and planning to pursue a degree in the theatre arts at the college level. Scholarships of $40,000 ($10,000 a year, renewable for four years) will be awarded to students who demonstrate talent, need, and a passion for pursuing a career in any aspect of the theatre arts (arts administration, directing, performing, design, writing etc.).
