St John Vianney’s Primary School is committed to creating an environment where the safety, wellbeing, and participation of all children within our care is paramount. 1 Thursday 2nd December 2021 Dear Parents, Tomorrow, we welcome our new principal Michael Schinck to our school with a small assembly in the yard at 10:15 for the students. Parents have been invited to meet Michael at 11:45 am for a tea or coffee in the quadrangle outside the art room. Parents are asked to reply to the invite so we can cater well and be COVID safe. We are all very excited to welcome Michael and are looking forward to a lovely morning. Congratulations to our past students Finn Callaghan and Blake Howes We would like to congratulate our past students Finn Callaghan and Blake Howes as they start their AFL careers in Great Western Sydney and Melbourne Football Club. Many of our students and teachers have followe d Blake and Finn’s careers and were so excited when they were recruited last week. Finn and Blake both represented our school at State level in AFL when they were in Year 6 and we we re very proud of them then also. Congratulations Finn and Blake we are so proud of you and we wish you all the best in your future careers. Year 6 We are very proud of our senior students as they prepare for Graduation. There have been daily rehearsals and hard work as they prepare for the special evening with their parents and teachers. We do need to remind all Year 6 parents that they will need to QR code as they enter the school and show proof of vaccination. Transition to Year 2022 Classes After much consideration we have decided to cancel the transition into the new classes for next year. We were planning to run these sessions on the morning of December the 10 th so the children would meet their new classmates and grade teacher. However, considering COVID safety we have decided to not run these sessions. Instead the children will be informed to what class they in with the school report that will go home on the 10 th . This decision was made because each transition class is made up of children moving to different areas and classrooms and mixing with children across classrooms and across schools. We have a number of new students this year so we want to be able to be inclusive of all. The decision was made that all transition activities will happen in the new year in their new class. In the newsletter, next week we will be informing the community on class teachers for 2022 and our specialists etc. This will coincide with the release of the school reports the next day. In the pack with the school reports will be the class that your child will be in next year Year 1 to 6.

Riding bikes on Brisbane Terrace

We have been speaking to our regular riders of bikes about safety in Brisbane Terrace. Some of the students have been riding down Brisbane Terrace the wrong way in the one way street and they are heading straight for oncoming cars. It would be great if students arrived here between 8:35 and 9 and come straight into school and did not ride around Brisbane Terrace before that. Please help us to support a safe arrival for our bike riders in the morning by driving carefully and speaking to your children about safe bike riding.

Life Saving Day

On Wednesday the 8th the whole school will be attending Mordialloc Life Saving day for a series of fun, life saving activities on the beach. All the information about the day was in the permission form sent home to parents. We would like to remind everyone that sunscreen and a hat is essential and that children should attend the day with sunscreen already applied and bring some sunscreen to reapply. This event is a Covid safe event with all helpers and lifesavers fully vaccinated. I would like to thanks Mel Roberts for all the work she has done to enable this event to go ahead. If you haven’t signed the permission forms, please do so as soon as you can.

Prep Orientation Day

On Wednesday, the 8th of December, we are still conducting the Prep Orientation Day at school while the rest of the students are at the beach. This will occur at 9:15 to 10:45 am and Mrs Hannan and Mrs O S’hannessy will be at school to welcome our new preps.

Kind regards Helen Thank you to these Year 5 students who decorated our tree this year

2021 has affected us all in so many ways, including the fundraising for the school. At this time, we are normally hosting hundreds of people at the annual SJV Community Fete. 2020 and 2021 have created a huge deficit in our annual fundraising efforts. The tickets are $5 and each family will receive a booklet of 10 tickets. Raffle books will be distributed to all families the week of 15th November.
