6th Sunday of Easter
Feast of the Holy Family of Jesus, Mary and Joseph
The Holy Family, Our ModelFe Marina S. Siacon
Being taken care of by my own parentsis an aspect of my life that I havenever experienced. But, when I got
married, I promised myself to be a good, loving and caring mother. My husbandwas a driver and was just contented with
what he earned. Nevertheless, he was aloving husband and father. Despite someof his human failures and problems weencountered, these had never destroyed thefoundation of our family. We experiencedso many obstacles in our married life, butthese were really striving efforts whichprodded us to go on smoothly. We had fourchildren, two girls and two boys. Rearingchildren was very dificult. During thattime there were no disposable diapers yet,so, I had to wash the white linens used bythe baby every day. Milk was expensive, Ihad to breastfeed, and at night, I would bewet because of the babys urine. Despitethe tiresome routine, I still felt happy withand for my baby. I never forgot also myduties and responsibilities to my husbandas a wife because, when I married him,I married him for what he was, his totalperson both the positive and negativeelements that were in him.
As time passed by our children grewwith us, too. We had to tighten our belts andprepared ourselves for bigger expenses. Anopportunity came when I received a letterfrom the Civil Service Ofice informing meto report immediately to Branch III as courtinterpreter. That was a sign of a greener
pasture. I was at that time registrar andmember of the faculty of St. Vincent FerrerSeminary and my children were yet at theirtender age, but I decided to remain at theSeminary, afraid of leaving my family. Theseminary as my second home is near usand I could go home any time in case therewas a need.
Rearing children was not an easytask. I had to implement discipline and Istill believed in the saying spare the rodand spoil the child. Maybe this belongsto the old school. But I agree to this kindof discipline, for even God disciplined Hispeople. Discipline them - your children -
with love. Let them feel you love them andno measure of harm will happen to them,
to their spirit. They were formed accordingto what they had observed in the wholefamily. Sometimes they got bored becausewhenever I brought them to my relatives, they had to besa mano all the folks fromthe eldest to the youngest. Especially my
uncle who was so kind and gentle, he usedto kiss them and whisper to them to be good, respectful, honest and kind. He never calledus by name but always with Nene.
My husband and I never missed aSunday Mass with our children. That spiritof religiosity was imbibed in them. All four ofthem inished their studies, at their own will.My eldest daughter Sharon was a scholar ofthe Student Grant-in Aid of the University ofSan Agustin and my second daughter Sheilawho had worked before as assistant to ourLibrarian, Miss Consuelo Mojica at the SVFS,later decided to accept the job as tutor andaid to the nieces and nephew of MissMila Palabrica, a Teresiana, atCagayan de Oro, where she wasenrolled by her employer at theSt. Xavier University to take upEducation. My two sonsentered the seminary. Johnwas recruited by Fr. ArisAban of Palawan. Heinished his high schoolin San Jose Seminary,Puerto Princesa City,Palawan, and thenproceeded to A.B.Philosophy at the
Saint Vincent FerrerSeminary. Maybeit is Gods will thathe was not ableto proceed to thepriesthood, however,he was able to inishB.S. Psychology atthe University of SanAgustin, Iloilo City.My youngest son,Beboy entered the St.Camillus Seminaryat Marikina Heights,Quezon City, but
stayed in formationfor only two years. He
graduated A.B. English at the West VisayasState University in La Paz, Iloilo City.
We felt the atmosphere of love in thefamily. Since they knew that I alone as theirmother could not send them to college atthe same time, they strove to look for some
means to continue their studies. Now, eachof them is successful in their own endeavor.I am very thankful that all my prayers toGod were answered, that I was able to leadthem to the right path.
The Holy Family at the very beginninghas been our model. We have an icon ofwhich in our home. I taught them simpleprayers like Lord bless so and so, andlet them feel that God is present and islistening. I know that it is in the familywhere we begin our journey to holiness andbecome fully mature Christians.
Sometimes I get so disappointed withlife because of our poverty, but when I
look at the Belen, I would say to myself, Sobra pa sang akon subong

Dec. 17 - 26, 2014
I recall it was Msgr. Amadeo
Escaan who met us at the
convent. We were requesting
for a priest for a sick call to a
friend. While waiting in the
sala upstairs, I could feel the
peace within me triggered by
the homey and holy ambiance
of the convent. I felt at home in
this place. On another occasion,
I accompanied a visiting priest
from Tondo, Manila. He wasoered breakfast at the convent.
During this time, I was still
employed in the government
oce. I was spiritually
and physically lled at the
convent because of the caring
atmosphere. Now I am retired.
How I wish my experience will
be repeated in the new convent.
Let us all together help build our
Parochial House for the honor
and glory of God.

the Fundamental Doctrines of our Faith. Perhaps, they were not taught in their own respectivehomes because their parents may be inadequateand incapable of teaching the faith for lack ofknowledge. When in school, especially in publicschool, children are not interested to attendCatechism Class. Again, these realities revealsomething very important, necessary and urgent.
Here we realize that poor spirituallife results to poor moral life. When webecome lax in prayer, we also becomelenient in our morality. Hence, the roleof the family, particularly of the parents,in training the children in Catholic Faithand teaching them the commandmentsof God, is very indispensable. We cangradually solve the problems in ourChurch and society when we have a
strong Christian family life. Our parish is challenged to revitalize
and strengthen our Family and LifeMinistry. We really need to organize, form and mobilize family and lifeministers as part of our accountabilityand commitment to the mission ofevangelization entrusted to us. As thefamily is the basic unit, our Church andsociety will be healthy when our familiesare as such.
Yes, our parish as a community andfamily may not be perfect. However, itsnot yet too late. We can still do somethingfor our FAMILIES which we hope to be alocus and agent of proclaiming the Wordof God for all peoples.

Catechists Christmas Gathering Are You a Parent?
If you are a parent, you are handlingthe most dificult job in this world. No
amount of money can ever sufice for
the labor you are undergoing whetheryou are a father or a mother. Both body andsoul of the child entrusted to your care. Youcannot afford to fail. You have taken this jobvoluntarily and you have to show that youare capable of performing it.
Babyhood is a long and dificult process.
Sleepless nights and trying days are in storefor parents, even if they can afford to payhelpers and take the baby to medical clinicswhen their health fail. When they are ripefor school, their educational needs have tobe supplied. It is during this time that thecharacter of the child must be developeddiligently. His mental, physical and spiritual
growth must be embedded in the home, inschool, and in the community. As the childgains in years, God must be instilled in him.His love and fear of the Lord must growstronger and more evident.
God doesnt want to lose His creatures. He wants them to be with Him in His eternalkingdom when they leave this world. Sincethis is His desire, He sent His only Son, Jesusto be our Savior.
The Jaro Parish Catechists had a
Christmas get-together with Msgr.Higinio C. Velarde, Parish Priest
The National Shrine of Our Lady of
ndles, last December 21 at 10 oclock
the morning. The said event wasd at St. Elizabeth of Hungary Kinder
hool, Jaro Metropolitan Cathedral
mpound. We were also joined by Rev.
Joenick S. Territorio, our Educationrector. We were all inspired by Msgr.
ardes earnest message of gratitude
and appreciation to the mission of the
catechists. This recognition of the effortsof the catechists was manifested in his
allotment of 10% of the collection during
Sunday Masses to the catechists fund.
He also appreciated the cooperation ofive public school administrators and
teachers, through which, we were able
to share the Catholic Faith to our school
children, resulting to the success of theschool catechesis. Furthermore, he
stated that the services of the school
and barangay volunteer catechists are of
great help in the evangelization programof the parish. Msgr. Velarde suggested
that even though the parish already had
the Adult Formation, it is still better to
establish Adult Catechesis in the variousbarangays. As for the updates of other
barangay representatives with regard to
their Catechesis it was mentioned that
parents are also supportive enough tolisten together with their children during
the childrens weekend catechesis. Mrs.
Elenita Java also took note of the snacks
of children attending weekend catechesisthat we had solicited from benefactors
and from the offering of monthlyMasses in ive public schools in Jaro.
At the latter part of the meeting,Mrs. Elenita Java, the Lay Education
Ministry Coordinator also expressedhis gratitude towards Msgr. Velardes
support and inspirational messages to
the catechists. She also looked forwardto having another meeting with the
parish priest. A simple Christmas
party followed after the meeting.
How do we CelebrateChristmas as a Family?
ts Christmas time! What we commonly
see and read in the TV ads and newspaper
are: where can we buy cheap toys, for our
adasandhijados and gifts for the familymbers? While we are planning on what
s to buy, we also worry of our budget
ich deviates our attention from the most
portant message: our encounter with thed.
Experience has taught me that the less
cus on these trimmings of celebrating
ristmas, the more I have peace in myart. So, we encourage our families to
ocus their preparation from trimmingshe major point, why we are celebrating
ristmas - Jesus! As we celebrate Christmas in
homes, our family members are
ouraged to prepare their souls through
Sacrament of Reconciliation. We attendMass together and receive with great
Jesus in the form of the Holy Eucharist,
ispering a prayer: Come Lord Jesus, be
rn in our hearts and in the midst of ourmily.
The birthing of the Lord Jesus in
r hearts and in the families is truly
experience of eu-charis or good gift.us is the eu-charis of God the Father to
all mankind. Thus we see to it that as a
family we go to church and attend the Mass
wherein we receive the Emmanuel in the
most intimate way that is Holy Communion. After which we go home and continue the
Eucharistic celebration at our dining table.
In the Eucharist it is the gift of the
Lord that we share but at home, gatheringaround the table, it is the gift of self that we
have come to share. Gathering around the
dining table for noche buena, one of the gifts
of person we share is the good stories aboutlife and relationship. Spending time with
one another and listening to each othersstories is enriching and very delightful not
only to the ears but more so to the hearts.Another good gift of self we share is the
person himself or herself. Truly persons
are gifts and these persons are none other
than our family members. How good andhow pleasant it is, when brothers dwell
together as one. (Ps 133, 1)
Thus, as a family, Christmas season is
truly a celebration of the Lords good giftand the gift of self of our family members.
A Blessed Christmas to every one!
Family Life Apostolate
The irst lesson we learn from the Holy
Family is humility. The Son of God was not
born in a palace. He was born in a stablein a cave, with the manger as His bed. His
blanket and pillow were straw. Humilitywas also depicted since His irst visitors
were the shepherds who were watchingtheir locks by night. A bright star in the
East, a comet, had proclaimed Jesus birth
and so they gathered whatever humble
gifts they could give. The next guests werethe three kings from the East: Gaspar,
Melchor, and Balthazar. Their gifts for Him
were gold, frankincense and myrrh. These
three were symbols of lifes phases: joys-trials and compensations.
The Blessed Mother Mary and Joseph
were by the manger and they never left
Jesus side, attending to His needs. TheHoly family is an example of living through
poverty without complaint. St. Joseph
was a carpenter and Mother Mary was
a weaver. Although they were living inpoverty, they were never envious of their
rich neighbors. They never complained ofdificulty in making both ends met, or of
physical exhaustion.ChristianFriends of Priests

he Christian Friends of Priests

That we would be aware ofYour presence, O Lord.
In this walk that will always beby faith and not by sight,
Let us percieve Your nearness.
We will stumble and fall, and we will also succeed and triumph. We will laugh, and we will also weep.
But in those moments in whichwe cannot sense You near,
Let us see with the eyes of faiththe marks of Your presence all around us,
Beneath us,carrying us boldly into Your future.
With You we walk, with conidence and trust,
into this New Year.
In Your Name we pray, living Lord Jesus,
Amen.(source: danwilt.com)
Another year has turned its page, O Lord.
We feel promises about to be fulilled, hopes that may be realized,
And sorrows unknown that may become ours to bear.
All of this, we carry into a New Year.
We declare at the doorway into this year, that our trust is not
In any man or woman to fulill us,
Nor is our trust in circumstance,Or a belief that the days ahead will be easy.
We do not expect, in this New Year, for our every prayer
To be answered in a way we would like. You are in control,
and we release our lives to you.
