ADVENT REFLECTION-WEEK FOUR OUR HEARTS LONG FOR GOD
You might be thinking as you read today’s theme that our longing is almost over...most will start celebrating Christmas with family and friends in just a few short hours. But our longing goes beyond the Advent and Christmas Seasons. Our longing for God is part of our everyday, not just four weeks out of the year. As we make our finishing touches in our homes and prepare that final dish to put on the table for our Christmas feast, let us pause and remember the reason why God sent His only Son.
Long to celebrate the birth of Jesus for more than one day. We all know the song “The 12 Days of Christmas.” The twelve days of Christmas start on December 25th and ends on the Epiphany. Do you know the symbolism behind the carol? Can you crack the code?
1. The partridge in a pear tree is Jesus. 2. The two turtle doves are the Old and New Testaments. 3. Three French hens stand for faith, hope and love. 4. The four calling birds are the four Gospels. 5. The five gold rings recall the Hebrew Torah (Law), or the Pentateuch, the first five books of the Old Testament. 6. The six geese a-laying stand for the six days of creation. 7. The seven swans a-swimming represent the seven gifts of the Holy Spirit. 8. The eight maids a-milking are the eight Beatitudes. 9. Nine ladies dancing are the nine fruits of the Holy Spirit. 10. The ten lords a-leaping are the Ten Commandments. 11. Eleven pipers piping represent the eleven faithful Apostles. 12. Twelve drummers drumming symbolize the twelve points of doctrine in the Apostles Creed. This Christmas season try giving gifts of the heart during the 12 Days of Christmas. Advent and Christmas come but once a year but how can we continue to Be Alert and Anticipate the Lord’s Return, Prepare the Way of the Lord, Be Hopeful in our Waiting, and Keep our hearts Longing for God throughout the year?

BIBLE STUDY
Join the Tuesday Morning Bible Study for Bishop Robert Barron’s newest study. Experience how the New Testament opens up once we see it through the person of David. David’s kingship recalls that of Adam in the Garden of Eden, and also foreshadows that of Jesus, The King of kings. The 8 week program will begin on Tuesday, January 9, 2018 at 9:00 AM in the Maximilian Room in the rectory. Cost for the program is $25. Contact the rectory for registration; the deadline for registration is December 29. For more information contact Judy Armour at 610-793-2596.
BIBLE STUDY
Join the Monday night Bible Study beginning January 8 at 7pm in the Kolbe Room as we study the Gospel of John. “Follow Me: Meeting Jesus in the Gospel of John” is your guide to a personal encounter with Christ. As the Good Shepherd, Jesus seeks after us. He comes to meet us and beckons us to follow Him. “Follow Me” invites you to experience the joy of a renewed friendship with Christ. To register, please contact the rectory. For more information contact Lidia M a n i e r i a t ( 6 1 0 ) 3 5 0 - 7 2 3 2 o r [email protected]. Cost of the materials is $20 and checks should be made out to St. Maximilian Kolbe Church. Registration deadline is December 27.
