4th Sunday of Advent True Spirit of Christmas: Mary’s Visit to her Cousin Elizabeth
Card sending, giving gifts and visits are obviously our common and usual way of celebrating the joy of Christmas. These kind and thoughtful deeds strengthen our ties with the family, our community, our friendship and our fellowship. Here in our parish we share our joy and thanksgiving on Christmas as we give gifts through our annual participation in the Christmas Giving Tree. With our Gospel, we are presented of an excellent example of profound and deeper spirit of Christmas, in the kindly deed of Blessed Virgin Mary. She, being pregnant, could have easily chosen not to visit her cousin Elizabeth. But precisely because she was pregnant with Jesus, she could not remain aloof. It was “with haste” that Mary climbed the long steep hill to her cousin’s home in Ain Karim, to willingly assist her. She braved all the challenges and inconvenience in her journey to visit her cousin. Her greeting was so divinely inspired and powerful, that it moved Elizabeth to spontaneous prayer and uplifted the spirit of unborn child John. When we visit family, friends and acquaintances we should carry with us that same joy-filled attitude, which in itself is a tremendous gift to offer another. Using the Blessed Mary as our model, we might try to worry less about being entertained and concentrate more on helping and uplifting. Jesus told the world that He came to serve, not to be served. I wonder if He had learned that from his mother. Happiness can be found in the most unusual places. Mary discovered it in the hill country, in the stable and even in exile, for Jesus was with her. Since He promises to be with us, our finest gift to others is to live and give His love. Happy celebration on this fourth Sunday of Advent and advance Merry Christmas! God bless! Fr. Cesar

Feast of the Holy Innocents Candlelight Rosary and
Procession with Bishop Jaime Soto
On Friday, December 28, 2018 the annual Feast of the Holy Innocents Candlelight Rosary Procession and Mass will
meet at 6:00pm at the steps of the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament (11th and K) and pray for the sanctity of life as we
walk to Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish (7th and T) for a bilingual Mass at 7:00pm. This March for Life commemorates those male infants of Bethlehem who were killed by decree of King Herod, as well as those innocent unborn babies lost by
abortion today. Bring your family and friends. Candles will be provided. Knights of Columbus will provide a ride back to the

4th Domingo de Adviento El Verdadero Espíritu de la Navidad: La visita de María a su prima Elizabeth Las Tarjeta de navidad, dar regalos y visitas a los seres queridos son obviamente nuestra forma co-mún y habitual de celebrar la alegría de la Navidad. Este tipo y acciones reflexivas fortalecen nues-
tros lazos con la familia, nuestra comunidad, nuestra amistad. Aquí en nuestra parroquia compartimos nuestra ale-gría y acción de gracias en Navidad dando regalos a través de nuestra participación anual en el árbol de Navidad. Con el Evangelio, se nos presenta un excelente ejemplo de espíritu profundo y más profundo de la Navidad, en la escritura bondadosa de La San sima Virgen María. Ella, embarazada, podría fácilmente decidir no visitar a su pri-ma Isabel. Pero precisamente porque ella estaba embarazada de Jesús, ella no podía permanecer al margen.
Fue "con prisa" que María subió a la colina lejana a casa de su primo en Ain Karim, dispuesta ayudarla. Enfrenta-ron los retos e inconvenientes en su viaje para visitar a su primo. Su saludo fue tan divinamente inspirado y poten-te, que movió a Elizabeth a la oración espontánea y eleva el espíritu del niño nonato San Juan El Bautista. Cuando visitamos a familiares, amigos y conocidos, deberíamos llevar con nosotros la misma ac tud llena de ale-gría, que a su vez es un tremendo regalo para ofrecer a otro. Si usamos a la Virgen María como nuestro modelo, podríamos tratar de preocuparnos menos por entretenernos y concentrarnos más en ayudar y alentar. Jesús dijo al mundo que vino para servir, no para ser servido. Me pregunto si Él había aprendido eso de su madre.
La felicidad se puede encontrar en los lugares más inusuales. La Virgen María lo descubrió en la región montañosa, en el establo e incluso en el exilio, porque Jesús estaba con ella. Ya que Él promete estar con nosotros, nuestro me-jor regalo para los demás es vivir, y dar Su amor. ¡Feliz celebración en este cuarto domingo de Adviento y anticipadamente Feliz Navidad! ¡Que Dios no bendiga a todos! Coast! January 26, 2019

The Knights of Columbus are again sponsoring a bus to the annual Walk for Life in San Francisco. We have chartered a 50 seat, deluxe coach that will be leaving from St. Joseph Church at 9:00 a.m. The walk itself will start at 1:30pm from the Civic Center Plaza heading down Market Street to Justin Herman Plaza. Sign ups will be on first come first served basis. Please make your reservation early as possible as other parishes will be riding along with us. The cost is $25 per person, round trip. Our Extra Ordinary Ministers to the Homebound is in need of a couple of people to join their
ministry!

Mother—Daughter Programs
The Mother-Daughter programs explore God’s special gifts of human fertility and the beauty and wonder of
God’s plan for growing up and becoming a women. The Teen (13-16) and Tween (10-12) programs cover similar
subject matter while differing in depth and scope. Offered five times

Sunday is a day of thanksgiving.
Eucharist means thanks. It is right and just to give thanks to the Lord our God, and the Mass is the best prayer to offer thanks. God graciously blesses us with
everything that we have: life and health, food and shelter, family and friends, intellect and talents,
opportunity and resources — and faith. These gifts are so awesome that we ought to be overflowing with
gratitude and eager to give our thanks and praise. The ideal is to give thanks every day. If we
give thanks only intermittently or rarely, we fail to adequately honor the giver of
the gifts.
Sunday Mass is not what we get out of it, but what we give. The more we put into
prayer, the more we get out of it.
