FOURTH SUNDAY OF ADVENT Isaiah 7:10-14, Romans 1:1-7

Matthew 1:18-24

Brief Reflection: Jesus is the fulfillment of the promises God has made to the House of David. Today’s readings remind us that in Christ Jesus, God has been faithful to the promises he made to his Chosen People. Our salvation in Christ is how we are reconciled back to God, who created us and loves us.

A Word from Fr. James… Dear brothers and sisters in Christ, We have arrived at the 4th Sunday of Advent and in just a few short days we will once again celebrate the birth of the Savior of the world, Jesus the Christ. Yet, there are still a few days of Advent left.

This Sunday in our Gospel reading we hear the story of how the birth of Jesus came about. Mary was betrothed to Joseph and before they lived together, Joseph found that Mary was with child through the Holy Spirit. At first Joseph was going to divorce her quietly, but an Angel of the Lord came to Joseph in a dream telling him not to be afraid to take Mary as his wife. Not, only did he take Mary into his home, he also took Jesus into his home as well.

Through our celebrations of Mary during this month of December, the Immaculate Conception and Our Lady of Guadalupe, we too are asked to bring Mary into our homes and lives, which also brings Jesus into our homes as well. How are you being asked to bring Mary and Jesus into your homes this Advent and now almost Christ-time? May your hearts be open to God’s love as we make room for Mary and Jesus in our homes.

A couple of other items. . . This past week there were a few people that received an email from someone claiming to be “Father James.” They were once again asking for gift cards to help people in need. Again, I will NEVER send emails asking for any kind of help or GC’s for someone else. Always make sure to check if it’s a valid email address for me or call the parish office before responding.

Second, we are looking for some more ministers for Holy Commun-ion and lectors for all of our masses. If you are interested in being trained to be a minister of Holy Communion or a lector, we will be scheduling trainings after the first of the year, please let me, Fr. James, know if you are interested and watch the bulletin for training times after the first of the year. Thank you for your consideration.

Finally, Masses on Christmas will be as follows: December 24 — 5 and 7 pm (español) at Sacred Heart Church and on December 25 Mass will be at 8 am at St. Louis Church and then 10 am at Sacred Heart. I do hope that you and your families will be able to join us for the Nativity of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Merry Christmas,

Fr. James

The November 24th Chicken dinner grossed $13,375. The wreath sale brought in $1356, which benefits our Children's Faith Formation Program. After expenses we made $10,515! That's about $700 more than last year. Thank you to everyone who supported our chicken dinner and wreath sale. It takes many hands to put on the chicken dinner and it raises a lot of money which supports our various ministries here at Sacred Heart-St. Louis Parish. We appreciate the time and effort that so many put into preparing for the dinner and working shifts throughout the dinner. If you are not on the work list and would like to help out with the next dinner, please call the office. It’s a great way to get to know more people in our parish community.

SACRED HEART CATHOLIC SCHOOL 503-792-4541 [email protected] The school office is closed from December 23 until January 7. We hope that you all have a very Merry Christ-mas and a Happy New Year! It is not too late to donate to our Annual Appeal. We are over half way to our goal of $20,000. It does not mat-ter what amount that you contribute just that you give from your heart.

Scrip is a great way to get your Christmas shopping done! Do you give your employees gift cards as a

Christmas gift? Think about placing an order with the school Scrip program! Forms are available from Karen Herinckx and Melanie Saalfeld. Please support our school by purchasing Scrip. Scrip is available for purchase from Karen Herinckx

after 8 am St. Louis Mass and from Melanie Saalfeld after the 10 am Sacred Heart Mass.

to. Feliz Navidad, P. Santiago
