She’s quick. The North Country Mavericks’ Tatum Moore eludes the Scotty defense to make a quick jump stop followed by a jump shot. The only senior on her team, she was selected to All-State her junior season, averaging 20 points and three assists per game.

Playing as Saco-Whitewater last year, the team lost to Gardiner 55-48 in the State C championship game. On Friday night the Mavericks beat the Scotties 32-29 behind Moore’s 15 points. There will be a rematch in Saco on Friday, January 22nd, 2016.

Christmas Worship Schedule at FLC Christmas Eve worship will be Thurs., Dec. 24 at 5 pm and 9 pm. The 5 pm worship service will be broadcast live on KLTZ. Radio sponsors for the Christmas Eve worship service is in memory of Chris and Agnes Molvig given by their eight children and their families. Special music at the 5 pm service will be Kathy Smith and her daughter, Alana, singing “Still a Bach Christmas” and Corey Carlson singing “O Holy Night”. The 9 pm service special music will be Colleen Forrester accompanied by Ruth Ebert. Christmas Day service will be Fri., Dec. 25 at 9:30 am. The Valley County Democratic Committee is offering two $1,000 scholarships is designed to provide financial assistance to Valley County students working toward their undergraduate educational goals. Applicants must be residents of Valley County and be enrolled in their second year or above of a secondary education program. In an effort to have the funds dispersed for the spring semester of college, they are asking that the applications be returned to Roubie Younkin or DeLee Hustad by January 8, 2016. What is your favorite animal? Our teacher asked what my favorite animal was, and I said, “Fried chicken.” She said I wasn’t funny, but she couldn’t have been right, because everyone else laughed. My parents told me to always tell the truth. I did. Fried chicken is my favorite animal. I told my dad what happened, and he said my teacher was probably a member of PETA. He said they love animals very much. I do, too. Especially chicken, pork and beef. Anyway, my teacher sent me to the principal’s office. I told him what happened, and he laughed, too. Then he told me not to do it again. The next day in class my teacher asked me what my favorite live animal was. I told her it was chicken. She asked me why, so I told her it was because you could make them into fried chicken. She sent me back to the principal’s office. He laughed, and told me not to do it again. I don’t understand. My parents taught me to be honest, but my teacher doesn’t like it when I am. Today, my teacher asked me to tell her what famous person I admired most. I told her, “Colonel Sanders.” Guess where I am now...

OBITUARYLafern Reed

On Friday, December 11, 2015 God gained another angel. Lafern Aldean Reed (Fuhrmann), joined her Lord and Savior in Heaven. She will be laid to rest on Tuesday, December 29, 2015 at Highland Cemetery, Glasgow, Montana. A service will be held at Bell Mortuary at 11:00 am with luncheon to follow at 12:00 pm at the Glasgow VFW. A remembrance service will be held next summer. The date will be announced at a later time. Lafern was born November 10, 1926 on their homestead north of Glasgow, Montana. She was the 5th of 12 children born to Fred & Dorothy Fuhrmann. Lafern attended school at the South Fuhrmann School and then completed her HIgh School Graduation at Glasgow High School. Her work career started early with baby sitting, house cleaning, and any odd job that presented itself. At 18, after graduating high school, she went to California to live with her sister Vesta and worked in the Stockton ship yard during World War II. She was chosen to be part of a War Bond Program and was in a beauty pageant selling war bonds. There she started writing to her Brother Hank’s best friend, Gayle Jones and 2 years later they were married in Bakersfield, California. They had 3 children; Gaydean Jones Wallace, Donalee Jones and Gayle

Dorn Jones Jr. After 14 years the marriage ended and Lafern went to work at various jobs while raising the children and attending college. She worked her way up to controller of a prestigious legal firm in Bakersfield. During this time she met and married Jack Reed and her family grew to include her step son, Morgan Stewart and family. They enjoyed 30 years together. After retirement Lafern and Jack enjoyed many years traveling and visiting friends and family. Upon his passing, Lafern spent time with each of her children and at her home in St Marie.She assisted her cousin Adeline with different projects and her church kept her active until 2014 when complications from her 27 year battle with severe diabetes resulted in her moving to a nursing facility for extensive medical care. Her family kept constant watch over her. Her Lord, family, singing, dancing, playing cards, gardening and writing poetry were her passions and she was the tops at each. She loved to cook, and like her mama, she shared with whomever was around. In Glasgow she attended the First Baptist Church and in California attended church in Bakersfield, Mariposa and Tollhouse where she stayed with her children. She didn’t have an enemy and loved life to the fullest.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Jack Reed; mother and father Fred & Dorothy Fuhrmann; brothers, Roy, Hank, Cletus, Donnie, Robert, and Gary; sisters Judy, Vesta, and Agnes. Survivors include brother Jerome Fuhrmann and wife Phyllis of Othello, WA; sister Betty Watson and husband Dave of Glasgow, MT; three children; Gaydean Wallace and her husband Frank of Mariposa, CA , Donalee Townsend of Tollhouse, CA and Gayle Jones Jr and wife Vicki of Bakersfield, CA; step son Morgan Stewart and wife Linda of Bakersfield, CA; twelve grandchildren; twenty one great grandchildren; nine great-great grandchildren; and scores of friends and loved ones. She was a beloved mother, grand, great and great-great grandmother, wife, sister, and friend. She opened her heart and her home to all. Lafern you were deeply loved and will be greatly missed.
