What an amazing year this has been for the Richard Bulpitt Community. Since our opening in the Fall of 2013, our school has grown from 275 students to over 400 students come January 2015. This of course has meant more teachers and support staff for our team. We were pleased that we were now big enough to have our very own Vice Principal. This coming January we predict another 75 or more kindergarten students registering. As well as new students moving into the community. The growth around the school has also been astounding. On all sides now we are surrounded by brand new homes and every day a new development springs up. The park and fields behind our school are almost complete. The new Township of Langley “Richard Bulpitt Community Park” has soccer fields, baseball diamonds and a playground for two to five year olds. Our Country Bumkins’ students are happy because they are old enough to play on the township playground. For one brief recess this past week the fences were down and excited intermediate students streamed across the vast expanse of fields. Hopefully the field will be fully operational soon. This past weekend the RBES choir participated at the Willoughby Town Center Christmas Festival. Thanks to Mrs. Merkel and Mr. Keranen for coming out on a Saturday to lead us in some Christmas songs. Our division one students participated in the gingerbread decorating contest and two students placed second and third. We were excited to be able to join in this community event. Enjoy the next two weeks with your family and friends. Take the time to learn who the folks are in your community and perhaps welcome the newcomers who are moving in. From all of us at Richard Bulpitt Elementary School, have a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

Notice of Motion for Potential Closure of Langley Secondary School   A Notice of Motion on December 16, 2014 to consider the potential closure of Langley Secondary School (LSS) has been served by the Board of Education in order to initiate the closure consultation process as outlined in Policy No. 5029. The potential closure of Langley Secondary School is included in a number of possible scenarios outlined in the District’s Long Term Facilities plan. With this notice, the Board will begin public consultation so that should a recommendation arise in which closure of LSS becomes

part of the implementation of the Long Term Facilities plan, the District will have followed the procedures in Policy. The notice of motion does not mean the school will be closed, merely that the possible closure will be considered at a future open Regular Meeting of the Board of Education. Information on the Notice of Motion for Potential Closure of LSS and the Long Term Facilities Plan is available at http://www.sd35.bc.ca/district/communications/default.aspx?ID=85

Dear Richard Bulpitt Elementary parents,  As Christmas approaches and the year winds down to a close, we have a few pieces of information to share with all of youplease read to the end of this post for some important reminders.  First of all, a huge thank you. Thank you so much for opening your hearts and being so generous this Christmas season. Our community truly demonstrates that this is the season of giving.  Our PAC President visited the Dumansky family on Sunday December 14, as they were getting ready to head to Seattle again for another round of treatments for their little boy. Their son has a few more treatments remaining and will be finished them in time for Christmas.   Thanks to your participation in our movie night and the raffle for the gingerbread house donated by Mrs. Barr's mother as well as some additional donations that were given, the PAC was able to provide the Dumansky family with a cheque and gift cards totalling $1959.45. They are extremely touched and overwhelmed by the support that our community has shown them and would like to thank you all for your generosity, support and prayers for their little boy.  On Monday December 15, our PAC executive delivered 25 boxes of food/household items and $420 in gift cards to our sponsored family, a local Langley resident who is a single mother of four children. To say that she was grateful and overwhelmed by our school's generosity is an understatement. In fact, our school was so generous this Christmas that we were also able to provide food and gift cards to another family in our community that was facing hardship and also have 12 more boxes of food that will be picked up by the Food Bank to be distributed to others in need. In addition to all of this, we also donated 40 toys to the Christmas Bureau toy drive. WAY TO GO BULPITT FAMILIES!!!  Tuesday December 16 was a day of pyjamas, stuffed animals and full bellies as our PAC put on another extremely successful pancake breakfast. We would like to extend a HUGE thank you to all of the parents who volunteered their time to make this event possible. We know it is one of the most memorable events for all of the children and we would like to thank you all for your much needed help. An extra thank you to those parents who braved the cold and cooked up all of the pancakes for our hungry kids!  Finally, although this school year began in an unconventional manner and may have been more rushed than usual, it has still been extremely memorable for all of our children thanks to our hard working Richard Bulpitt Staff and all of our wonderful parents. We would like to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a joyous New Year. We are all so happy and fortunate to be a part of this extraordinary school and this incredible community. Have a relaxing and well deserved holiday season with your little ones!

Sincerely,

Your PAC Executive
