By providing an atmosphere of hospitality, appreciation, educational

quality and spiritual energy as we approach everlasting life with God our

Father, Assumption will be a parish where all are enthusiastically involved

in serving the needs of its members, the community and the world accord-

ing to the teachings of his Son Jesus Christ and as led by the Holy Spirit.

The Assumption Pastoral Council will again sponsor the “Rise

Against Hunger” event that the Kaup Family originated and

continue to organize. It will be held on December 26 at 7:00pm in

the Parish Center. Rise Against Hunger is an organization striving to end world hunger by

2030 by fulfilling basic nourishment needs while communities work toward

sustainable food practices.

We need your help to reach our goal of packaging 20,520 meals — this

means we need to collect ~$7,000 (in advance of the event) to cover the

cost of the food. As you may know, the Kaup Family generously provided

the majority of the funding in previous years. Many of us were not aware

that there was a monetary fee for the meals we helped to package.

Please consider volunteering to package food and donating to this fun and rewarding event. We are asking those who

want to participate to register and donate by December 19 in order to have an idea of supplies needed and number of

people attending.

Checks can be made out to Rise Against Hunger and may be dropped off at the parish office or mailed to

Chris Krebs (2001 Arrowood Place, Cincinnati, OH 45231). Registration and donations can also be made at this

link: (http://events.riseagainsthunger.org/AssumptionParishandThelmaKaup).

We look forward to seeing you on December 26!

Christmas Mass Schedule:

Tuesday December 24th at 4:00 PM and 11:00 PM

with music starting at 10:30 PM

Christmas Day at 10:00 AM

New Year's Eve Mass will be at 4:00 PM

New Year's Day Mass at 10:00 AM

Santa Breakfast is still in need of volunteers! Set up

We need as many people as we can get. Also help

on Sunday! We hope to see you that weekend!

Assumption Conference of the

Society of St. Vincent de Paul

was busy January to October

2019

We had requests for help from 570 families which

amounted to 1615 people.

There were:

37 requests for furniture

41 requests for beds

269 requests for financial aid (utility bills, rent, and

medical assistance)

359 requests for clothing vouchers

Over 2408 pounds of in-kind donations were collected

for the Mt. Healthy Alliance Food Pantry through

monthly restock weekends and parish festival.

During 2019, our parish provided an average of 14

volunteers a month for the pantry.

We provided 2 community meals at Trinity Lutheran

Church for a total of 140 people and 3 meals for the St.

Vincent de Paul Getting Ahead program.

This sixteen-week outreach program helps neighbors

investigate ways to possibly improve their lives.

Our conference hosted bundle weekend in March and

October collecting items for the St. Vincent de Paul

Stores.

Looking to the Future Opportunities to Help Your

Neighbor:

155 families registered for the Santa Angel Project.

360 children will be receiving gifts thanks to

the generosity of all those who took a gift tag.

Gift are to be returned Thanksgiving weekend.

Gifts will be distributed on Sunday December

15th.

Bundle weekends are scheduled for April 4, and

October 3, 2020. Donations are greatly

appreciated. Volunteers are needed to help load

the truck. Please contact the parish office if you

are available.

On April 2nd, we will provide a meal for Trinity

Lutheran Community Meal. We will need

desserts and volunteers to help serve from

5-6:30. This is a great opportunity to help feed

our neighbors.

Thank you for helping to make this possible through

your poor box donations, 5th Sunday collections, and

restock weekends. It is through your support that the

Society of St. Vincent de Paul can aid those in need. If

you are interested in joining us in our work making

home visits or volunteering for Bundle Weekends,

Community Meals, or joining the pantry volunteers,

please contact the parish office. We meet the 4th

Wednesday of each month at 7 PM in the Providence

Room.

Assumption St. Vincent de Paul Conference currently

has nine active members who attend meetings and

guide the work of the conference. Please pray that they

are guided to the resources necessary to help our

neighbors in need.

Zone 231 Our mission is to provide a safe environment in which youth can develop their

potential and learn to thrive through consistent, stable, long-term and

Christ-centered relationships.

I would like to thank everyone that has been involved

in the newsletter over these many years and many

editions. This will be the last newsletter that I will be

editing. I am stepping down to do other things. I have

truly enjoyed being involved. The newsletter was

Fr. Kennedy’s idea and I was fortunate that he asked

me to lead it. Thank you so much to Bill Rocklin for

always being there with great photos and graphics.

Thank you to all of you for your articles and especially

thank you for getting them to me on time.

I am sure that Amanda will do a great job, she has been

doing a lot of the work already.

Our Pastoral Region will prepare for the coming of Christ at

Christmas with an Advent Penance Service on Tuesday,

December 10, at 7:00 p.m. at St. Margaret Mary Church.

Please mark your calendar and make plans to celebrate this

beautiful Sacrament with your family. The second graders of

our two parishes are preparing for their first Reconciliation

and will join us with their families on this special night.

A NEW VISION FOR

FAITH FORMATION Our newly formed Visioning Committee invites

your input and comments regarding the future of

Religious Education and Adult Faith Formation for our

parish. What topics, programs, approaches would you

like to see come to Assumption in the coming years?

The committee is exploring the possibilities for our

future and discerning the underlying values and

priorities that can help us grow as a community that is

centered in Christ, contemporary in our knowledge of

the Catholic faith, and evangelizing in how we share our

life stories and passion for the Gospel with others.

Please talk to any member of our Committee about what opportunities you would like to see offered in the near

future. The members are:

fun event and help the Athletic Association — more

BOX TOPS AND COKE REWARDS There has been a change in the Box Top program. They

are no longer clipping the box tops off the packages.

Please download the app and start earning money for

OLG. If you don’t want to download the app please send

in receipts with the qualifying purchases on them and we

will scan them for credit!

The goal for the Box Top program for the year is $1,000.

So far we have earned $482.20—please help us meet the

goal by participating in the program!

PTO is still collecting Coke Rewards so please keep

sending them in!

VETERANS DAY CELEBRATION On November 11, OLG honored our veterans with a

Prayer Service and reception for the veterans and guests

following the service. The students also dressed in red,

white, and blue for the day. The Mt. Healthy American

Legion Post 513 was the Color Guard for this special

occasion. The veterans and students enjoy this special

day.

DRAMA CLUB Once again, the Drama Club did a wonderful job

performing their fall plays. The performances were:

Cocoon (the bug world does Sleeping Beauty), The

Reluctant Dragon (a friendly dragon refuses to be

bullied by St. George and ends up with a whole bunch of

new friends), and Help Wanted (a plot to thwart an evil

scientist requires ingenuity, teamwork, and a banana

cream pie). The actors and actresses always have a great

time and so does the audience. Congratulations on a job

well done!

CHRISTIAN SERVICE DAYS The next Christian Service Days will be held on

Thursday, Dec. 12 (character day), Thursday, Jan. 23rd

(Pajama Day), and Thursday, Feb. 20th (favorite sports

team day). The students pay $1 to be out of uniform and

that money will be given to the Wounded Warriors

Project at the end of the year.

OPEN HOUSE AND CATHOLIC

SCHOOLS WEEK OLG’s annual Open House will be held on Sunday,

January 26th, 1:00 – 3:30 p.m. Come and meet the

teachers and take a tour of OLG. Mark your calendars

and look for more information at a later date.

EAGLE WALK 2019 Another successful Eagle Walk was held in October.

The students met their school goal and raised over

$30,000. This money is used to help fund field trips,

technology, and many other items the school uses.

Since the goal was met, the students earned a “Week of

Fun”. This included a Snow Cone Day with Fr.

McCarthy, a No Homework Day, a Blue Out Dress day

(dress all in blue), a Cotton Candy Day with Mrs. Kirk,

and finally a Crazy Sock Day. The Eagle Walk is

always a fun day for students, faculty and staff and all

the many volunteers. Thank you to everyone for

helping make this a great success!

We transform lives in the 45231 communities by providing

services with Christian love and dignity. PANTRY MISSION STATEMENT

With Christian love, our mission is to aid struggling families in the 45231 communities with food, personal care

items, and resources for other basic needs.

The pantry has been very busy this year. The chart below will help to tell the pantry story from January to

October 2019.

Total Families Served 4594

Total People Served 12,987

Total Pounds Received 73,887.07

Average Number of Monthly Volunteers 77

Total Number of Volunteer Hours 11,115.18

Estimated Value of Items Distributed to Our Guests

$518,114.50

Senior Boxes Distributed 1300

Metro Tickets Distributed 948

None of this would be possible if it were not for the

efforts of all those who volunteer and those who donate

items to the pantry. We average 459 families a month.

Items we distribute come from Freestore, Meijer, other

retail purchases, and donations from businesses

churches, food drives, and individuals.

Thanks to those who supported the Hunger Walk on

Memorial Day. The pantry received a credit of

$2,644.00 to be used at the Freestore to purchase items

needed to help our neighbors. Thanks to the Mt.

Healthy Haunted Hall for over 2,000 pounds of pantry

items.

The pantry was also chosen to be part of Spring Meijer

Simply Give Campaign. Thanks to the in- store

donations, Meijer matching funds and the LPGA

tournament donations we now have $17,620 in Meijer

gift cards. This will help us provide items for regular

distributions and for the holidays.

So far this year 155 parents have registered 360

children 13 and under for a Christmas gift through the

St. Vincent de Paul Santa Angel Project.

How you can help?

The pantry especially needs toilet paper, personal

hygiene, and cleaning items as well as non-perishable

food. Donations may be brought to the pantry during

our regular pantry hours: Monday 11-1, Tuesday 5-7,

Thursday 9-12, Saturday 9-12 or they may be dropped

off in the St. Vincent de Paul Box in the school hall.

We are also in need of volunteers to help pick up items,

stock items and help shoppers select their food. We

also need packers and people to carry out packages to

our guests’ cars. We especially need people who can

pick up items from Kroger, Walmart, Freestore, and

LaSoupe. This requires a van or truck and the time

availability of 2 hours a week. If you have time to

share or you have questions, please contact Kathy at

513-551-8036.

The Mt. Healthy Christian Church has been housing

the pantry since 2008. The church is for sale. We are

now facing the possibility of finding a new home if the

new owners need the space the pantry now occupies.

Consequently, we are looking for a plan B. Please pray

that God will guide us to an appropriate space. We are

very grateful to Mt. Healthy Christian Church for their

many years of support.
