A Message from Ms. Lindsay (Vice Principal)
Hi everyone,
My name is Lisa Lindsay and I am a vice principal at Wilson Learning
Centre. I have been a teacher for a long time! In fact, I know some of you
parents as former students of mine!! WLC is where I want to be – and I
consider myself grateful that I get to spend my days with your kids and
our staff. December is here and it seems surreal that another holiday
season is upon us. As they say, “Time Flies When You’re Having Fun!”
Although the holidays can be busy, it is also a great opportunity to spend
some time with our families and the people we keep close to our heart.
When I reflect on time spent with those I love, my mind tends to drift to
food, fireplaces, and fun board games. Going sledding, going to the
library, baking, reading a book, coloring together, constructing Lego, or
even looking at old family photos are all ways to connect. I don’t really
think it’s what you’re doing that matters so much, but who you’re with
when you’re doing it!
Being there for others also means taking the time for yourself. This
month, our staff will be challenged to (re) connect with themselves. We
will be documenting our progress with photos of the completed
challenge. We invite you to join us!!! (#DrJodyChallenge on Instragram,
Twitter or FB).

Dec. Music Corner
Here we are at the start of December! We are busy tackling reading notes on the staff in
order to be able to learn some great Christmas pieces.
In the younger grades we are working on reading and playing simple songs together on
boomwhackers and xylophone. As well as doing lots of fun songs, games and Christmas
activities.
Grades 3-6 have three projects they are working to complete before Christmas:
1. A class Christmas song performance. Some of these include Jingle Bells, Jolly Old
Saint Nicholas, Little Drummer Boy... Ask your child if they remember the name of
their class song! The students help to arrange our song with a variety of possible instru-
ments (xylophones, boomwhackers, drums, recorders, buckets, bells). Each class will
perform their song for an audience of their choice.
2. Each individual students will also learn a simple song (min of 5 different
notes). Their instrument choices are: ukulele, xylophone, boomwhackers and keyboard.
3. Lastly, compose a 4-8 bar composition, putting together their learning of rhythm and
melody, which ties together what we have been learning about since the start of the
year.
I also wanted to thank our choir for their amazing job at our Remembrance Day assem-
bly. We have lots of new, young faces this year and they are are doing a great job of learn-
ing all the words and choreography. Our ukulele club had their first ever performance in
our assembly on Friday! Great job it’s hard to sing and play at the same time in front of
your peers!
We look forward to showcasing more of our amazing Wilson talent at our Celebration of the Arts night!
